Anyone caught up in them?

Not So far.... But I'm not a teacher or the father of school age kids, you?
-
I'm an NHS worker. I work in our education department so I don't directly affect patient care.
I'm not happy with what the government are doing. There has been a 2 year pay freeze, now a two year cap of 1%.
And we're being asked to pay more for a poorer pension!
It amounts to a pay cut and I have colleagues who can't afford it ๐
-
How? Public service pensions will receive the benefit in the long run paid for by the private sector.
It's ridiculous. Just like when ASLEF go on strike over pay rows. They get ยฃ40k a year to drive a train, actually pull a damn lever and yet that's low pay?
The nation is in such a difficult time and this doesn't by any means help.
Change can't happen instantly and it's too big a mess to sort in 1 term. It'll take a decade and we should be just as responsible in ensuring there's no action that can put further pressure on the economy.
-
I'll also say it's hugely irresponsible to strike while discussions are taking place. The offer given is more than generous. Union greed is taking over. Just suck the economy dry why don't you.
-
I understand the national picture, don't get me wrong and I can afford these changes.
But I have friends and colleagues who genuinely can't.
And, what hurts most, yesterday it was announced that benefits were going up by 5%, whilst pay was being capped at 1%.
It feels like the government would prefer us to be on benefits rather than doing a job.
-
understand that pay rise caps affect everyone, especially with rising inflation. It's hard. But look at the forecast, he's proposed changes for working class families in a way that will still financially benefit them, in particular when it comes to children. And the offered pension scheme is far from unfair, it's very generous and rightly so because it's those public sectors that pay the majority of taxes. Reform takes time and though some of his figures are slipping in to wonderland he has proposed changes that brings benefit. The budget has to balance somehow and something will always take a hit.
From my POV, there's gonna be mistakes in policies and budgets with the mess labour left behind. But they are trying to make the system fair again piece by piece.
-
And mass strikes is not the way forward. Today must have cost the economy 100s of millions. Who will pay for that loss? Ultimately us anyway.
-
Who cares! The UKs f###ed anyway, money, businesses,
Immigrants,unemployment etc.
This is just a taste of how tits up this country will end up in a few years,I'm seriously concidering moving abroad,it sickens me when I do jobs in people's houses who are fat and lazy claiming benefits in a bigger house than mine....makes me sick.why should I be paying for them to be sat on their arse playing xbox -
80% of JSA claimee's drink/smoke. They recieve ยฃ52 a week so work it out. They spend ยฃ30 on alcohol an fags a week, who do you think is getting the money back that they've given out through tax?
-
I'm not from the UK, but why blame unions when what they "suck dry" is only a fraction of what corporations, banks, insurance agencies, etc. suck out of the economy? Historically a large middle class is a sign of a healthy economy, and unions are very important in growing the middle class.

True. But they should also see an opportunity when it's on the table. Greed doesn't amount to any benefit. @josh. That's false economy. You can't think of it like that. Look at the bigger picture. The burden of paying benefits to these people falls on the taxpayer. So we work hard, we have the government take half of that through tax. We then pass it on to those who claim benefits in the hope that they'll only spend it and help businesses? Who in turn pay that back in taxes anyway. It's wrong because it puts a strain on the taxpayer, on young families and first time home buyers because they don't have enough savings left.
Saying that, Rudgicus, they did announce a change to JSA in that if people after x period are found to not be actively signing on every week and not taking opportunities in work or training their benefit will be cut indefinitely. It's a step forward.

I'd look at saving money by cutting benifits! If your single parent I as a tax payer should not have to pay for you to live in a house that's better then mine and live comfortably, while using your other benifits money to buy ur luxuries! Ur parents should be responsible at housing and raising the child until u get a job! If ur an alcoholic using ur job seekers allowance to buy drink it should be stopped straight away! If u have been out of work a year and keep getting girls preggars u get the snip!
I would so love to be PM I have so many plans for lazy scrougers, sluts and alcoholics! -
Lefthook. It will happen. Evaluating who is and isn't genuine is a lengthy process. But I know what you mean. My parents have a business in an area that's fast growing with city workers on good pay packages. We have 1 regular who comes in. She isn't a UK citizen, has 5 kids all young and lives in a 6 bedroom house with rent fully paid for. My estimate on that alone is ยฃ1700pcm. To top it she gets ยฃ900pw in personal and child benefits. That's ยฃ67k of taxpayer money. I do agree it's these people that need to have benefits capped. Why the fuck don't they develop more social housing to place these people in.
-
I bet if they evaluated a 1000 of the high benefit claimers they could raise enough to build a block of flats to rehouse those 1000.
-
Hopefully it will work vadan I really do, a high majority of the Bradford community get loads of our money by having 5/6 kids and packing 10 people in a house...they've even told me they get nearly 30k in benefits because of it! Alot of them can't even speak English so there's NO chance they will work
-
And that's not a racist rant its factually correct

I know what Bradford is like and what type of people you're referring too. It's sickening. Pay for an interpreter for her next interview!
-
I say that these people that live in these houses for free should all be put into 3 bed houses with 3 other families in each one and told to work together! "it's to crowded it's not fair" What? it's fair that I have to pay for u to live better then me!
Anything related to obesity should not be provided on the NHS! Gastric bands for example! The money that we would save on not treating obesity related diseases would be enough and more to fund projects and workshops that educate people on healthy eating! "it's not that easy to lose weight" I hear u say! Guess what it really is if u know how ur body works! Don't tax fat tax sugar and refined carbs! -

It's not fair to say all non-English speaking claimers should have benefits stopped. That could be interpreted as borderline discrimination. The English are just as bad. We are a lazy nation and lead by example to people that arrive through immigration. And we wonder why our jobs go to European workers. My bin man gets ยฃ26k a year. And he moans. Why? It's a honest days work he should be glad he can provide for his family.Rudgicus. They even sabotage boilers that we as a company take on contract (all working with no problems) to get new parts fitted, that increases our parts costs and majority of the time when it's questioned about what's happened they magically can't speak the queens, same as car insurance (my post about renewal)they don't take insurance out or pack their people carriers with people and crash into each other and claim whiplash....making Bradford the highest insurance in the UK!
Smart but ultimately we all suffer......f##kers -

The UK needs to change a lot of things. We need to generate jobs somehow. If you get more money on the dole then you do working minimum wage, it's a no brainier, you can't completely blame these people for abusing a system that lets them.
I always considered a car, sky/virgin, mobile phone and the latest TV luxuries, I see a lot of people who dont work with these things, drinking and smoking. How about if you can't get a job you do some work for the local authority/council if you are getting your rent paid, and being given money you should do something to earn it.
People shouldn't think that they are owed a living, you have to go out and work. If you don't contribute anything to your environment why should you be entitled to anything from it? -
I used to work in medical legal claims. It was amazing how many families were involved in RTAs...
-
The whole culture of claim free money from your accident is driving the cost of insurance up. The whole claim money back from ppi's will make loans harder to get and more expensive in the long run.
The mind set in this country is "I'm special, I'm entitled" you can see it in all walks, let's face it how many people speed, how many people park in disabled bays when they don't need to, if you do justify it to yourself, we all do something because we think it's our right. -
I personally think that if they cant read/write or speak english they shouldnt be able too claim a 'free living' in england. It is wrong that they leave there own country because they dont do benefits, then come too ours for it :/

Well these people are only looking to get a better life, if it's easier than what they had to go through at home they'll do it. Water follows the path of least resistance. Operator! ๐ spot on mate! Your absolutely right! If you get your rent paid you should be FORCED out of bed or off the sofa away from Jeremy Kyle and eat the privillge! If you don't like what it is your forced to do then go find a job you would be happy with! If that fails put em on a boat and drop em on an island! It's been done in the past just this time it's scroungers and not criminals!
