Walked into Target yesterday and literally all the soap/wipes/sanitizer/toilet paper shelves were void of anything but scraps of plastic. Way too many people bought into the hype.
Gotta say, glad the great diseases keep it consistent throughout the centuries: 1720 Plague 1820 Cholera Outbreak, 1920 Spanish Flu, and now 2020 COVID-19.

it’s all media bullshit, so far all those that have died of it were born in 1920 anyhow, but hey, was the virus that killed em offWalked into Target yesterday and literally all the soap/wipes/sanitizer/toilet paper shelves were void of anything but scraps of plastic. From The Wall Street Journal
By Jimmy Vielkind and Leslie Brody
Updated March 10, 2020 1:45 pm ETNew York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the state would deploy National Guard troops and establish a “containment area” in a Westchester County suburb at the center of the coronavirus outbreak in the state.
Starting Thursday, the state plans to close facilities for two weeks in a roughly three-square-mile area of New Rochelle and limit large public gatherings, officials said. People would be able to enter and exit the zone and move about within it.
Mr. Cuomo said Tuesday the National Guard would be deployed to the area to help with cleaning, food delivery for people under quarantine, and transportation. Northwell Health will set up a satellite testing facility in the area.
The containment is believed to be the first in the country. “This is unique in the United States of America...” -
New York state has 173 confirmed cases, no deaths and only 14 people in hospitals, he said. Most of those hospitalized were in vulnerable high-risk groups, such as the elderly.

The CDC & WHO say it’s better to use soap & water anyway. That’s not just for Wuhan/COVID-19 either. You left out some outbreaks, lol.

From The Washington Post:
“ People living and working inside the zone can go about their day and visit businesses like grocery stores, and movement won’t be restricted, the governor said, but large gatherings will be discouraged. “You’re not containing people,” he said. “You’re containing facilities.”
Cuomo urged calm after declaring the containment zone by stressing the reality of those most affected — older people with health problems. Washington State and New York State have nearly identical confirmed infections, he noted, but no deaths in New York have been reported. The deaths in Washington State have centered on a nursing home.” -

I wouldn’t go to Italy right now, but I wouldn’t cancel my trip yet either. July is 4 months away - there’s no telling what things will look like then. If there’s a cutoff day for you to get a refund or whatever for your trip, I would wait until that date and see how things look then.NsynQ wrote:

This is what you all don’t realize. COVID-19 has a 16% hospitalization rate. Yes, the vast majority of younger and healthy people will recover, but what happens if enough people are infected and our healthcare system becomes overwhelmed? Think that’s unlikely? It’s not. Italy locked the country down because its 6,000 cases was threatening to overwhelm hospitals and resources. I live in NYC, a city of 8 million. If even 1% of NYC is infected at any given time, that’s 80,000 cases. 16% of that is nearly 13,000 hospitalizations. If Italy is struggling with 6,000 cases, picture 13,000 in one city. Or even in one metro area. Nurses recently reported their hospitals are woefully underprepared for a sudden uptick in patients. Will the 16% be able to get needed treatment? Now multiply this across the country, and you get an idea of what can happen IF we aren’t proactive. By the way, a 22-year-old pro soccer player died in Iran. Who of you thinks you’re in better shape than she was?
-
We shouldn’t panic, but you all need to take this more seriously. After all, even if you get a mild case, you potentially face two weeks’ quarantine. Do you have food for two weeks? Supplies? Can you afford to miss two weeks of pay? Does your insurance cover a hospital stay?

Damn the Media has yall shooketh. Just wash your hands and we’ll all be alive to see another day.

415 is correct-
Yes it’s like a mild flu but deadly to those with compromising health issues. It’s spreads quickly and due to mild symptoms, often is spread by those who continue to work/go to school when sick. What is happening is that schools, day cares and businesses are shitting down I high impact areas because of th volume of employees sick or needed to care for sick family. Hospitals and clinics are overrun and decisions are made on who should receive care and who will have to tough it out

When 10 patients need a ventilator and there are only 8, 7 of which are in use, sucks to be the odd one out.

You don’t have to be 80 to catch it and I don’t know anyone of any age that wants/likes to be sick. I wouldn’t travel anywhere right now. I’d also avoid any large public gatherings (assuming they’re aren’t all cancelled/postponed anyway).NsynQ wrote:

You also have to remember that your choices affect more than just you. You can catch it and spread it before you have any symptoms. So you could catch it and recover just fine, but you could spread it to others that could end up dying. So people shouldn’t panic but I don’t think they should be laissez-faire about it either. At the very least you need to keep up with what’s going on where you live.
We’ve got some cases in Houston now and our first case in Montgomery County (where I live).
