This goes off on a slight tangent, but in my mind I see them as one-in-the-same.
Recently a north Carolina girl had her packed lunch taken from her and replaced with a chicken nugget school lunch that included milk and an overfilled mystery vegetable. Her original lunch had an apple a sandwich and a bag of chips.
Who should decide what or children eat?
-
I'm going to eat what ever the hell I want. And if you don't like it, tough.
-
Overfilled = overcooked

School lunches are balanced foe the health of the child. It's all part of keeping the child healthy. I see no issue with bit allowing home brought lunches
-
Pizza is now considered a vegetable and is served in schools. How idiotic is that.
-
I think the school systems are Trying to get too involved in children's life's. If a kid wants to eat a packed lunch then so be it. Pretty sure the employees of the school don't eat like that of Jenny Craig 👎

Who decides what is healthy? During the Carter administration we were supposed to eat all grains. Now that makes us fat. Margarine used to be bad then good then bad. Trans fatty acids used to be bad then good. Sacharin used to be better than sugar then they found out it kills people. Fried chicken parts and fried genetically altered "potatoes" with over salted mushy canned gmo vegetables with milk that comes from abused hormone-fed, steroid given abused cows. once again, who decides whats healthy?School lunches are balanced foe the health of the child. My mother is a retired lunch lady.. Man the stories she would tell me. Phew

There are now black markets for candy and pop in schools because it was taken from them.
I can just see some idiot thinking "there will be no fat kids if we take away the pop machine". Once again it is the parents who will teach their kids good eating habits or not.
-
I read the article. The girls meal did not meet guidelines. For one it didn't contain milk. For another it didn't contain a vegetable. It's obvious she wasn't going to get the proper nutrition from this lunch so the school gave her a healthier alternative

I remember when I could go to school with a fudge bar from little Debbie's(or what ever it's called. Didn't like them so I asked for something else) a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And some doritos. I got sunburst orange pop as my drink. Now they choose what our kids eat? And tell us that they have everything under control? What's next? They will tell our children what to wear, drink, say, when to do it and where? To me that lunch had nothing wrong with it, it had meat and fruit. That's fine.I read the article. Did you read the article? This is what the lunch actually consisted of. A turkey and cheese sandwich on multigrain bread. A banana a bag of chips and apple juice. Problem is it had no milk or vegetable. And the truth is they didn't confiscate her lunch. They gave her an additional school lunch billed to the mother. This consisted of Chicken nuggets a vegetable and milk. She actually retained the lunch though she didn't touch it and ate three chicken nuggets instead

What I'm trying to point out is, they are controlling our children. So your saying if I gave her all that is required(which is stupid, a lunch is a lunch not a test to which you have to inspect and prepare for) but forgot to add a milk your saying that they would take the whole lunch away and replace it with processed food and make me pay for a mistake that doesn't harm the child in anyway?Did you read the article? Read the article closely. They didn't actually confiscate the lunch. They merely supplemented by adding a healthy school lunch to it

Personally I would have thrown the milk in the garbage. I don't drink milk ever. You don't need milk. For some people it will make them congested and/or they are lactose intolerant. Which could lead to a loss of focus because they can't breath or they are farting or having stomach pains in class. Chicken nuggets are not as healthily as the sandwich would have been. -

If you have hyperthyroidism you should limit dairy intake and increase intake of b12 which is most available in multigrain breads. You'd be fucked with the school lunch.

Right on about milk Kozy! Humans do not need milk after infancy. We need calcium which is available in a wide array of other sources. Milk can be detrimental, especially the generic milk that has steroids, antibiotics, and no active enzymes(pasteurization-necessary to kill all the blood and pus in milk at conventional dairy farms)

And what happens to the child of she is lactose intolerant? Will they make the child drink the milk anyways? If not why take the whole lunch away and use that as a excuse? Why even bother inspecting lunchs? Do they need to know what you are doing 100% of the time? Should we have bathroom monitors to make sure that people don't have sex or take drugs in bath stalls? As far as how we know what children should eat. Its the FDA. The FDA follows nutritional science. Are you saying the average parent knows more than scientists?
