HOW TO: Capture Turf Rev. 12/10
Forums › Help & Strategy › HOW TO: Capture Turf Rev. 12/10-
When you go to capture (cap, capping, capped) a turf, you will see a checklist on the turf page listing the requirements for capture.
A green check indicates you meet the requirement, A red X indicates you do not.
If you meet all the requirements, your button will say "Capture This Turf"
If you do not meet all requirements, the button will read "Attack This Turf"Under that it will tell you which turf you are attacking from in the form of a link to that turf.
You can also go to the fight list and select "Turf" where you will be given a drop down list of your turfs you can attack from and display a list of turfs in the area of your chosen turf. This is handy if you have turf in distant areas.
And now, The Checklist
-
First:
(turf name) is close enough to capture this turf.
Probably the most confusing part of the checklist.
A turf's capture radius is the radius projected from the turf in which it can be captured, and has nothing to do with the attacking turf. When you think in terms of cap radius, it is from the perspective of the target turf.
The higher the turf's influence, the bigger it's cap radius. Turf count also plays a factor in cap radius. The more turf a player has, the larger his turfs cap radii will be.
Cap radius starts at 4x the radius of the turf. After a player's turf count increases above 16, the cap radius of all turf begins to grow. This a means of protecting players with low turf counts from players with high turf counts.
-
This makes it possible for capping to sometimes be only "one way" For example, Player A has 500 turf and Player B has 50 turf, but they have turfs near each other. Player A may not be able to cap player B because Player B will have a smaller cap radius per turf, but Player B may be able to cap Player A, as Player A's high turf count has increased his turfs cap radii.
The bottom line is this, if you do not meet the distance requirement, no matter how big you build your turf, it will not help. 8 inf or 8000inf...makes no difference. You either have to wait for your opponent to upgrades his turf (if possible), or move your turf closer.
-
Second:
(turf name) has been present for greater than 24 hours.
Your turf has to be in your possession for 24 hours before you can use it to cap another turf. This means you can not use to cap another turf until 24 hours after building, or if it is a turf you captured, 24 hours after capping.
There is no time restriction on being capped, however. New turf can be capped as soon as it is built.
-
Third:
(turf name) has greater than 50% of this turf's influence.
If you wish to cap an 84 inf turf, your capping turf has to be at least 42 inf. You will need a 50 inf turf to cap a 100 inf turf, and so on.
lower inf turf needs to be at least 50% of the higher inf turf, but there is no restriction on the reverse. Even a 122 inf turf can cap a 1 inf turf, if it can get close enough.
-
Fourth:
this turf owner's influence (inf) is greater than 10% of your influence.
This will show the target turf owner's influence. If you have 30,000 inf, then the number in parentheses must be 3000 or greater.
This is based on total influence of the players, and not individual turfs, or the city or town influence that determines capo status.
If you are just above meeting this requirement, it is possible to cap the target and push him below the threshold, preventing you from capping anymore, and this can even happen in mid capture, as each attack lowers a turf's influence.
-
Fifth:
You're below the daily capture limit for this player
This is another complicated one. Nick has mentioned that this limit is based on a formula including your total influence and your level vs. the turf owners influence and level, This is to prevent people from losing all their turfs in one 24 hour period.
Cap limit wil vary from player to player. Player A may be able to take 30 turfs from player B, but Player C may only be able to take 10 turfs from Player B.
And even if player A can take 30 from Player B, player B may be able to take 40 from Player A, or maybe only 20. this is a player vs player match up, and there is no rule that will tell you what you can cap.
The only way to really find out, is top off you stamina and go for it.
-
And finally, the attacks and capture. You must first knock a turfs health down to zero before you can capture it. After you have done this, you must also be able to win a fight after the turf's health has bee zeroed.
If you can not win, you can not capture, no matter how much you beat on the turf. Your strength, as compared to your opponent's strength will determine how much damage you inflict with each attack, and whether you win or not.
It may take as few as 6 hits, or it may take 20 or more.
Hopefully this answers all your questions. If not, please ask. Because the game is constantly updating, and because changes can be made at anytime, please read through the entire thread as any new information will be added in the form of new posts since we are unable to edit and add the changes at the beginning of the thread.

I'm under the daily capture limit but the don says that I'm taking out the player too fast. And he is helping how long does it take for that to go away
-
"ChainsawCharlie 2 weeks ago Quote
The Don will step in and protect players under level 15 fro just about anyone over that level. He will extend that protection up to level 25 if the other player is enough of a higher level (possibly level 40) and is significantly stronger and higher influence."Ah found it after a bit of digging.
-
Well I know that this player gave up playing months ago so he won't progress level so how do I get rid of him
-
You can't. And why would you want to? The more players you have in an area, the more your turf makes.
-
The person I am getting this message from is level 30, how come?
-
How much turf does he have? Please see the part on cap limit. That is what the message is referring to.
-
Can you do me a favor? Try to cap him again, and post the exact message in here so I can update this. Post your stats and his. (mob number, turf owned). PM me if you do not want to put the numbers publicly.
-
PM'd you Charlie

Thank you, Don Gav.
"Eh paisano, go easy on this punk - we got plenty of time to rub 'em out. The don gave ***** a little bit of help"
I believe this may be more influence related than combat strength related. And level gap may play a role here as well.
Even though you may have a green light on daily cap limit (and the entire checklist, for that matter), the Don may feel you are too big, and the other guy is too small for you to cap from.
"plenty of time..." = give the guy a chance to catch up, get a little bigger...THEN kick his ass.
-
Hello my question is how can a person attack me from a state away and then capture my turf? Is it that he was in my area and attacked it and then captured it? Thanks
-
Attack range is 1000 miles from where you are or have turf.
Many players have turf in multiple states and even countries.
And he would have to have turf near yours to cap. First item on the checklist is distance.
-
Nice revision. Thanks!

Can you actually "capture" a turf so that it's under your rule? Because I get turfs down to 0 health and it doesn't ever seem to "capture" them...
-
Did you read through this whole thread?
Does ypur button say capture or attack?
Do you have all green checks, or are there any red X's?
Are you winning any fights, or just getting losses?
Is there a message from the Don? (blue text at the bottom of the fight details pop up)?
-
I did read through it. The button says capture but I'm losing. But I thought that if it had 0 health, it wouldn't matter if I won or lost. How do you win a fight?
-
If you are fairly equal in strength, you will go around 50/50 in wins and losses.
The greater the gap in strength, the less likely the weaker player is to get a win.
If you are significantly weaker, you are unlikely to get a win. You need to be close.
-
I am getting a message when I get the turf low. "you need an accuracy of 5000 to do this (20037510)". Any ideas?
-
Thats a weak gps signal.
-
Is this a glitch? I try and cap a turf where I meet all the criteria except for distance. It says my turf is 9 miles away from the other turf , ie: too far away, but I know for fact (as I live in the area) that the turf is less than 0.5 mile away. The turf in question is actually only one street away from the other turf.
Is this a glitch? is it worth reporting or as someone else said to me "It is just one of those things". Waht do you think?
-
Where does it tell you you are 9 miles away? i never seen that. If you are talking about the very top of the map, where the turf location is listed, that is distance from you currently have your device. But that has nothing to do with capture.
If the turf is one street away, it can still be too far. It is possible to be right on top of a turf and not be close enough.
-
Cap radius is dependent on the turf you are targeting. It's cap radius must reach to the center of your attacking turf. If it does not, then you are too far away and will need to either wait until the target turf radius grows, or you need to move your turf closer.
It is possible that you may not be able to move your turf close enough. This is one of the safeguards to protect smaller players from a player too much bigger or stronger than them.
-
K! see I had that wrong I thought were it says eg: 9 miles NNW of you. meant that the turgf is that far away from the target ruf.
Thanks for clearing that up!
and when I put in the radius it overlaps, fully, the target turf
btw thanks CC for your help!
