@Brown Note - What about the many people who do the shit jobs that we depend on? Do they deserve decent living? They're employed, contributing to society, and providing the products & services we all want & need.
-
Keep it in perspective. 100 years ago, things were much worse than we can even imagine today. Less pay, more hours. Child labor. Dangerous working conditions. Disease. Poor health. Actual starvation.
We can still turn this around. But if it means turning into Canada... Well. Look at them.
Fewer jobs, lower pay, government daycare. You have to say "aboot"...
No thank you.

You do not have a right to work in an unskilled position in an over saturated market and expect more than what you agreed to work for.
I got news for you. 50 years ago, grocery stock boys did not earn a living wage, which at the time also did not include a television, a computer, a car, an iPhone, or even Spam in a can.
It is a competitive market. The unskilled labor union bubble burst 30 years ago. Where have you been?

In all honesty, and I do mean it, I wish/hope there was/is a way to pay what we sadly call unskilled workers more money and provide them with adequate healthcare, etc. I really do. When I look at my oldest son, I have to be honest and hope he'll be able to hold down a job like that some day (I hope for way more but I am also realistic about his current disabilities) and it scares the shit out of me. I have a seriously vested interest in the subject and totally see your point. I think they deserve a decent living. Some are honestly working at the peak of their abilities, too. And it's those folks I am concerned for, not the whiners who could be out trying to better themselves.@Brown Note - What about the many people who do the shit jobs that we depend on? @41Fivin...I think we have vastly differing definitions of "decent" with regard to living though.

Wait, wait, wait.
Who is starving here, and why can't they afford to be overweight? If you are too poor to be overweight in America, there are already programs for you. Even of you don't work at all, food stamps will by you enough coke, captain crunch, and nachos to be morbidly obese.

So you're saying not one person in this country is starving? How about the pursuit of happiness?

No, stupid. That's not what I said. Go read my resume. I didn't earn a living wage until I was in the Navy. I lived. I pursued happiness. I got off my ass. (a big deal for me.) So basically, Brown Note, you're saying it's survival of the fittest and forget everyone who can't "make it"? Is this how you feel, or am I misinterpreting you? Because I grew up in an environment like that, and man, it's not a pretty way to live.

If we over police, over tax, and force companies to compete globally while still paying emplyees more than most other countries, they will leave.
Simple.
It has happened already. Now we want to do the same thing to the remaining service industry. Good call.
Balance. What is broken and why?
They say corporate greed broke it. Corporations have always been subject to greed.
What is new... What is changing?
Increasing regulation, taxes, fees, benefits, and overseas competition.
A skyrocketing standard of living pushes up the "living wage", and here we are.

The plain truth is not everyOne has the means to escape unskilled labor. They shouldn't be not making it because life didnt shine blessings upon them
-
Any of the occupies need to get a life/job is a bunch of BS they are lazy!!!!!!
-
Hey, I'd hire one of you needy souls, but I can't afford it. I have to match your salary in taxes and benefits. I have to file paperwork quarterly to maintain this employment.
And I happen to live in one of the wealthiest pockets of blue America. Maryland wants their paperwork, too. And the county. I have to file paperwork that proves that you as my employee recycles. No bullshit. I have to pay to file this paperwork.
Who has it really bad in America? CA and MI? What do they have in common, I wonder.
We probably are screwed. But we can still turn it around, if we go back to basics.

Protests are for lazy scum sucking assholes!!! While the rest of us have to work you camp out! Jokes on you I'm warm on my couch! You all can kiss my ASS!!

I didn't have the means. My first two years, as i said, was grants and loans. I earned my way up after that.
I'm sorry utopia doesn't exist. I really am. Humans suffer, and scrape, and work to compete and survive. Here in this country, we have it very VERY well off. Appreciate it.
You don't have a right to anything that comes from someone else. You have a right to pursue happiness, and property. You have a right to work hard, and go as far as you can.

The delusion that we do, induced by politicians, is causing this country all sorts of trouble.
I have a son that can't "make" it on his own. He will depend on family and social services, community programs, and love. He will be very happy, I'm sure.
To those of us that have no good reason not to succeed, (B), and just sit around making excuses why their life sucks, fuck 'em.
