This stuff in Japan is incredible!
One of the reactors is about to meltdown. This level of destruction is amazing. Good luck over there guys!!

Is this real? I have no access to live news feed right now 😨😵
-
Fuck! I'm watchig news now! This has gone from bad to, I don't ven know what to call it! 6.3 mag aftershocks. 160 at radiation risk.
-
Yes this is real. The reactor is about to meltdown in japan after all theyve been through. It's crazy.
-
Maybe they'll get superheroes out of the deal? There's gotta be an upside some where in this devastation.

Have you seen the map of destruction from the reactors & wind?
6 days West Canada,10 days West coast USA California!!!!!!! -

This is probably going to be worse than Chernobyl, as it is compounded by the previous natural disasters, which will hamper managing the situation.
A bad day for humankind. 🙍

Jeez, praying for these guys

I'm not reading that it's immanent, only possible.
I was suprised to find out they are using nuclear power there. Not only because of their justifiable stance against nuclear weapons, but because Japan is prone to frequent earthquakes and floods.
Also, I wouldn't worry about the fallout reaching North America. Think about it... We have detonated dozens of bombs in Nevada, and 2 in Japan. Those are explosive, and throw material upwards. I don't think a meltdown will get material up into the jet stream. If it does, it's not going to be much.
Worry more about the local people.

I haven't even finished reading this but it seems to have a lot of info at least.

a 3rd reactor going down? evacuating to 6 miles?
So far, there is no apparent eminent threat. “IF” something major happens (a core breach of the reactor vessel), if I lived in Japan I would want to be as far away as possible (should go without saying…). Here in the U.S., west coast, we are fortunately 4,500 miles away and surely there will be significant dissipation before it would reach here. Having said that, some of the radioactive ‘fallout’ would diminish rapidly due to quick ‘half life’, while other fallout like Cesium-137 evidently takes 30 years to half life, meaning, effects that will likely be noticed over a longer term (higher cancer rates?) as the material works its way through the food chain. Of course, all of this depends on if and how much of a fallout there actually is. So far, it seems, the reactor vessels are still intact. This will all be over one way or the other, pretty soon I think. -
With all due respect to modern survival blog, we already know what happens to North America when we have a full-blown nuclear blast in Japan...
They do admit that they don't know what might happen.
Nuclear hysteria is one of my pet peeves, so sorry if I am stepping on your thunder here. I've worked on cesium beam tubes, slept between trident nuclear missiles, and drank water that cooled our reactor. People often blow it all out of proportion, and I can't help but be skeptical at some of these news outlets.
-
I'm no nuclear scientist. My problem. I'm watching the news on TV. The end of the world is good ratings. For example, now there are "conflicting" reports on the meltdown. I value the opinions on here more then the talking heads on tv.
-
BBC are reporting that the reactors still intact. There's an evact zone of 12 miles around the plant still and any radioactive material that was found has now dispersed.
It would seem that for now it's only a damaged building and more than likely unuseable for the forseeable future.
If anything were to happen it more than likely wouldnt be on the same level of Chernobyl as the Russians don't have the same core protection as other stations worldwide.
-
And Brown Notes right, I'm very skeptical of things like this.
The biggest panic of the Sellafield nuclear disaster in Cumbria was that milk sales fell 15%...........
-
I'm sick of TV news. I'm reading AP and Reuters and watching the wording carefully. So far, there is hope, but I am worried about the people in the region having to relocate. Odds are they will get out of the area before it gets dangerous. The problem is that if there is a meltdown, they can never come back home.

I really can't imagine a country like japan that is so high tech, and innovative, and with a strange and hard working people wouldn't be prepared for this sort of thing. They're gonna let another massive nuclear explosion clear out parts of their country because of poor planning? For acts of god they expect to have happen on the pacific rim. pffffttt.
-
I don't know that there is planning for it. I think they've done the best they can so far.

Maybe this will make mankind think about nuclear power as a viable option now! As we have known for along time it's not "if" it's "when" , with the ways we have of producing electricity now it's risks far outweigh the benefits! Yes I know that nuclear outcounts for a big % of our power, Id rather more power shortages and piece of mind than cheap electric whilst playing Russian roulette? What are your thoughts?
-
For each and everyone of us who not in japan,we can count our blessings I guess. But the thought when I lay my head down n think for the ppl the kids especially of japan (n we had Haiti recent katrina USA, Australia ,newzealand to name few) it hurts just the same as it will be someone elses turn next!!! We all better start learning to work together, because I think we might just need it! The implications on food shortage power infrastructure?if these things ge more regular as appear to be. It's horrible thought, how can u prepare for something like that? You can't.

I think this was a recipe for disaster from Day 1. The words Nuclear Reactor and Fault-line should never even need to be in the same sentence, let alone built in the same location as each other... The Japanese are a resilient people and will come back from this.
