Stats mean nothing taken out of context, so don't get hung up on it. Bottom line is if you carry a gun you are paranoid. Paranoid and armed makes everyone twitchy. Why do u think crims carry guns? It's because they know their victims may be armed, so they need bigger guns. Don't forget they will still mug you, burglarise you, attack you regardless of guns- they are criminals. All it means is that they are going to be armed coz their victims will be. Vicious circle in which everyone is paranoid.

And also you put yourself in danger if your armed. I use my common sense to tell me if it's safe or not to go somewhere. Getting a burger at midnight is dangerous in the city period, but the vibe on here seems to say "I'm carrying a gun so we'll be ok- let's get that burger".
If you carry a gun you put yourself in a dangerous place purely with the attitude that goes with it.
jared loughner bought his weapons legally. He wasn't a criminal but he was paranoid. If guns weren't available we wouldn't have ever known his name.

Your argument is a sweeping generalization. Are cops paranoid? Hunters? Criminals? If the criminals aren't paranoid for carrying firearms, then by your own argument, neither are those that carry weapons for self defense.

If you carry a gun by that very action you are saying you believe there's a percieved high risk you'll need it. You perceive you'll need it because you believe you may meet someone who also has a gun or weapon that may do you harm. You feel insecure without one. This is paranoia. I don't carry a gun in the UK, not because it is illegal, but because I know I won't need one.
BrownNoise, you are a bit weird with your arguments- why would I 'lie' with my reasoning? Sounds a bit paranoid to me......

You say high risk, I say risk. And I have fact and experience to back my reasoning. Paranoia is an irrational fear. If I was afraid, it would not be irrational. But I am not the one that has any fear here. That is YOU. You are afraid of what someone may do to you with an evil gun. You are afraid of guns, and that's why you want them to magically disappear from society. They are a tool for good. They are here to stay. YOU will need to come to terms with your fear.
I probably joined the military because I am so fearful of violence. I'm practically shaking in my boots.

Let me tell a little story about why I'm not afraid of guns, because I once was.
Once I was waiting in a restaurant to give a friend who worked there a ride home. I was sitting there in a black trenchcoat, sunglasses, you know, what you ride a motorcycle with... She was running late, so I waited at a table. The manager freaked out and called the police. She told them I had a gun and was about to rob the place.
I'm sitting there twiddling my thumbs and a police officer comes in and I'm looking down the barrel of his pistol...

I followed his instructions to the letter. I was face down on the ground, foot in my back, cuffed, and I look up and see about 9 cops with guns drawn.
It was mistaken identity. The cops thought I was someone else.
When I realized that I wasn't afraid when he put the gun on me, that's when I grew up. That's when the military became a viable career opportunity. Before that, I was afraid of guns, violence, death, and living. Now, I feel safe in general, not at all afraid to stand up for myself and my family and anyone else that needs it.

Tools are good when used for good. Most guns are in that situation, and I want to keep it that way. Some people seem to want to shift it around so the only guns out there are used for evil. That is not very intelligent in my opinion.

We don't carry guns everywhere we go.
Some areas are known to be high crime or high risk areas and ant always be avoided.

When the only thing stopping someone from getting a gun in some states is a 3 day cooling period, its rather likely that your going to get a couple angry dumbasses that get a hold of a gun. And guns as a deterrent don't always work so well. You know as well as I do I'm not talking about policemen. Police have guns because you have guns too. They have guns to enforce the law if need be, or to make the criminals think twice. But citizens are no police. I don't speak for you brown, but there are a lot of idiots in America who should never lay a finger on a gun but can get one after a 3 day cooling period? Like come on! That's just begging for stupid shit to happen.

Yes, of course there are idiots with legal guns that shouldn't have them.
There are even more idiots that shouldn't have kids, but do anyway.
We take them away whenever we can, guns and kids alike, from those that shouldn't have them.
Waiting periods are fine, which here is 7 days. "7 DAYS?!? But I'm mad NOW!!!"
Sure some laws could stand some tweaking, others should be scrapped. I will jump through the substantial hoops required of me.
But a ban is not going to happen. It is not good for society to do so, and we as a people know that.

At least you read what I wrote, which is more than I can say for most. Ill agree a ban would do more harm than good now and for a long time. However, a waiting period being the only thing people go through to get a gun? That's unbelievably stupid. Especially with some states having it 3 days.

You don't buy a nail gun to kill someone. You buy a nail gun to do handi work or whatever.
When you buy a gun, you either have the intention to kill someone, or intention to kill someone down the road in self defense. No matter how you word it, guns have no other purpose. Your not gonna take apart your glock and use it as a makeshift pipe or any of that shit. It is a gun, and people use it as such

I initially bought my guns because to hunt. Then I got into competitive shooting. Self defense was just an added bonus.
The world was a different place them, and it has gotten progressively worse.
