Let’s put it this way: without unions, America would’ve never have had a middle class. Corporations moving overseas for slave labor has been our downfall. The need for Wall Street to constantly be in a state of a “bull market” is the problem. Anything less is considered a failure on the books. I’ve always been an advocate for something I call a “deer market.” A Scandinavian approach if you will. Where everyone is working and making what they need. Do CEOs really need $100 million bonus? No. It’s obscene𝕾𝖙𝖆𝖌𝖌𝖊𝖗 𝕷𝖊𝖊 wrote:

Oh, change is coming. But it’s not what we think.

So the corporations need to stop wanting profit. It’s either that or government intervention, right?

I.E.
One of the complaints by big businesses such as the Midwest auto industry, who closed operations for places like Mexico: claimed that “unions and their salaries were crushing their profits.”It was absolute nonsense. All of those companies were profiting very well. They COULD pay a living wage. They COULD provide health insurance. They even paid a decent amount of taxes back into the American system from which they benefited.
(Those corporate taxes created additional jobs and valuable services - all now being gutted by DOGE.)
The problem as I stated earlier is the pressure from Wall Street and the need to have profits in what is considered the “bullish zone.”
-
Investors get nervous if a company isn’t skyrocketing. And therein lies the rub.
In order to keep everything at skyrocketing profits, companies will keep finding ways to essentially suck the life out of everyone.
- lowering/stagnating wages
- bare minimum healthcare
- Price gouging/shrink inflation
- Low taxesAll under the promise of “trickle down economics.” But nothing trickles down. It floats back up to the top into the hands of the few.
There’s quite a few economists tracking this. I would recommend Thomas Piketty who’s been crunching data for decades. And the numbers don’t lie.
-
At a quick glance, the days of a single income earner, like a father supporting a family of four are gone. It’s now typically a working couple to support a single child if they are lucky.
The cost of living has outpace the reality of their double earnings.
And yet – we are seeing a mere few at the top consolidating both power and the profits.
As I also said earlier, three billionaires in the current administration have more wealth than the lower part of 170 million Americans. That’s half the country. Three people? We need to think about that number.
The irony is that many of them reaped profits not only by unscrupulous practices, but by sucking money from the taxpayers in the form of “subsidies”
How’s that for irony? The ultimate form of “socialism“
Elon Musk receives 8 million a DAY from taxpayers. I think people really need to sit and think about that number too.
-
All this said – there are some CEOs and companies doing good things. And those are the ones I applaud.
I would cite Dan Price who cut his own salary to give all of his employees a minimum wage of at least $70,000 per year. His company’s revenue initially tripled.
And then guess what happened during the pandemic? Like many businesses, they almost went under. But because the employees were treated so well, everyone agreed to a salary cut during that time until they could get the place back on track. Now that’s the kind of quality businesses we need more of.
- Businesses where CEOs don’t hoard everything and pay their employees fairly.
- offer substantial healthcare
- Offer matched 401(k)
- Offer crucial perks like maternity leave, etc.At the end of the day, this benefits everyone. Not just a few. Remember, money goes into circulation. The more money in people‘s pockets, the better off the system.
As for reigning in the ugly ones? Well… That would be “regulations” and paying their fair share of taxes

Does musk receive 8 million per day in Govt checks- NO he doesn’t. Does the companies he oversees have government contracts & green energy incentive credits- they do to expand commercial space industries and decrease dependency on fossil fuels. Things the left have long supported the government in encouraging. Please don’t mislead by saying the money is directed to the person & not the companies

If the world’s top 5 richest individuals conspired to give every household on earth $200,000. Would it increase the standard of living and ease poverty? NO, it would not. In fact a case to be made would be that it would plunge more people into extreme poverty and decrease the middle classes into poverty. The $200,000 given to each household would decrease the buying power of $200,000 and a wheelbarrow would be needed to transport your money to buy groceries each week.

I just find it ironic how so many Trump supporters are regurgitating rhetoric about “their taxes”. God forbid if Grandma needs a check up under Medicare. What a bum, right? Meanwhile… There goes Muskrat soaking it all up.

Value of something is determined by how much is available and what someone is willing to pay. With more people having more money, the cost of goods skyrockets- the basis of inflation

OK – so enough of me explaining my side. I’ve given a lot of thoughtful comments here with both historical examples and a few numbers.
I really want to hear from some of you in the MAGA camp.
I just asked Viking if he has any clear idea of what MAGA actually means. So we’ll see about that.
However, I’m going to take a little jab here. And I wanna know what you really think. One thing we are hearing from the billionaire class (of which you are wholeheartedly supporting as if… you were one of them) is how they are always a victim. (?)
Because there is this sentiment, a rhetoric that “they’ve worked so hard like nobody else.”
And if you’re not an even millionaire? Then you’re obviously a bum.
That’s pretty much the subtext from the messaging throughout the decades.
Do you actually see yourself along with them… As some kind of victim?

Fair enough Stagger- next question then- should all jobs pay “a living wage” and what defines a living wage? Should a gas station cashier earn enough per hour to afford a 2bdr/2bth townhouse rent, renters insurance, car/insurance/maintanece, cell phone/data plan/ home internet/ cable tv/ PlayStation +, Norton anti virus/monthly don points/ weekly trips to Applebees/ Starbucks every other day/ monthly hair appointments/ utilities/food/clothing/ day care or after school programs/ concert/sports tickets/events/ bi annual vacation/ pet care costs/ charitable donations/tithing and birthday parties with swag giveaways with group event rentals. This seems to be what the “essential” cost of living is to most these days.

〓∞Persephone∞〓 wrote:
There’s a few calculators for that. Living wage varies by location. A single person living in Sarasota, FL., should be making a minimum of $22.68 per hour. I doubt, vacation pets, and antivirus are included with that. Ok MIT living wage calculator https://livingwage.mit.edu/metros/31080
It has the current min wage, poverty wage and minimum wage.
Should a cashier (no spouse or kids) at the gas station be paid a living wage of $28.80 per hour so they can live alone in their own apartment, own a car, have internet/tv/cell phone/food/clothing & money left over for civic engagement, entertainment and misc expenses? The minimum wage is double the poverty wage. Income caps for Food stamps/ HUD housing subsidies/State Medicaid assistance for low income persons is well above the federal poverty limits (poverty wage) and depending on program above minimum wage levels. HUD income eligibility is based on 80% of Area median income (Ami). It is a 3 tiered program. Tier 1 extremely low income, tier 2 very low income (50% Ami) and tier 3 low income (80% Ami). -
It appears the calculation used by MIT is specific to costs for items for the genyperson and does not account for multiple subsidies being provided to lower income households

And to Staggers point about Corporate views towards labor. In Cali the Gov raises minimum wage wage for fast food workers to $20/hr. Just theirs, not any other industry, including home health aides. The results so far is an increase in fast food store closures, a decrease in employees per store, an increase in prices. The gov shelved the next bill to raise min wage for home health aids.
A partial reason for raising FF min wage was a corporate decision by a clown company to reduce costs by increasing salaried positions- so instead of a GM and a couple of AM’s per store they created a fry manager, grill manager, cashier manager, Am’s and Gm. No more OT, problem solved. Except the lower managers were working 50-60 hours per week and the average per hour was less than min wage -
The issue I have Stagger is that you seem to have a problem with unbridled capitalism, yet you are here to decry market intervention as a fix. You want the administration to encourage industry and job growth domestically, but not actually do anything. Your suggestion seems to be to tell companies to not be so greedy, but still let them take advantage of external labor and resources that are cheaper than they are here. It seems very likely that the only reason you don’t want market intervention is simply because the guy doing it is on the other team. If you were on his team, you’d be cheering it on. THAT is MAGA. Conservatives cheering on market intervention, because the poor can’t earn a living as easily as they could in the past. It’s tribalism everywhere.

Moving on to other Orange News
The CFPB : Consumer Financial Protection Board
The pesky government regulation officials responsible for returning over $20 billion back to consumers because of fraud… is on the Muskrat “efficiency” chopping block.
The pesky government officials that once protected Americans from predatory financial practices by cracking down on junk fees to your credit card, bank accounts and more… as well as removing your medical debts from your credit report, are no longer a hassle to banks.
(No longer will they be the victims of the evil socialist watchdogs!)
So check your credit card and bank fees. At the least. Because who knows how much they’ll be? Beyond Mars could be the limit.
And Remember: When those fees do kick in? Instead of calling those pesky government people… better to head over to your local bank with affixed kneepads. They will be very understanding no doubt.
Making things great again has never been so much fun for the 1%.
You just can’t make this stuff up.

Measles outbreak rises in 14 States - pesky virus is rearing its blotchy head.
But fear not! RFK jr. now leading America’s Secretary of Health and Human Services is guiding us. (And protecting us from those bureaucrats.)
Although he has never practiced medicine, because becoming a doctor requires years of medical school, clinical training, and licensing exams… he opted instead for a degree in environmental law.
Disregard all nagging details. Being chosen by the orange hand speaks for itself. “Only the best and most qualified.”
That said – Jr. has instructed that no vaccine is required.
He reassures that once wrestling with measles is over… immunity for a lifetime will be granted.
(Although disputed by so-called experts… his environmental law degree is good enough. The fake jab they claim providing lifetime protection is a lie.)
So sit back and tell your young brats to enjoy the battle.
Making health great again has never been so amazing.
And you just can’t make this stuff up.

And now… a blast from the past reading DJT’s:
Art of the Deal! Chapter 45
“Never admit defeat. You win. If you don't win claim they cheated. They rigged it. They stole it. You are the aggrieved but you are the true winner always.
Threaten to sue and/or die. No one will remember the outcome. Just that you fought to defend your honor. This is essential to keep your brand healthy and keep the millions of CHUMPS and LOSER, your BASE.”
Wait? What did he say? He didn’t really mean it. We’ll ignore it anyway and wear his Made in China red hat.
The slogan means something that I can’t really explain… But somehow it resonates with me. Who needs to use critical thinking anyway?
And you just can’t make this stuff up.

Biden’s appointment acted more as an executive to organize thousands of professionals for handling the pandemic of which… Orange Man disastrously exacerbated.
RFK Junior? Is a de facto, quack, spreading dangerous misinformation. Someone pretending to be a doctor. Someone ignoring actual professionals.
Yeah… context. It matters in critical thinking.

Viking: Are you familiar with any of the former Soviet Union propaganda techniques?
In case you aren’t acquainted, here’s a little insight.
The main technique is taking a 1/2 truth and twisting it so it seems as real as Dorothy‘s Oz.
That is precisely what we have been seeing for quite some time from what used to be the Republican camp across the board. (Especially that pesky laptop from that guy named Hunter.)
In terms of health:
I.E. “Helps support immunity”: Such a statement suggests the product boosts the immune system. However, “helps support” is vague and can mean anything from a minor contribution to an effect that is barely measurable.
While, not everything he is promoting is a bad idea, a lot of it has no deep statistics.
And dare I say… The most pressing would be eliminating the polio vaccine shall we say? Probably coming soon no doubt.

Believe it or not… When I first was allowed to vote, I was registered Republican. Yup.
But then I wanted to debate those weak messaging Democrats. (They still are actually.) So, in order to debate them, I began reading everything I could about their perspective. And guess what? I realized I was wrong.

As for HARD Soviet era propaganda? No. It’s unprecedented from the GOP.
