  To be fair, “Roger & Me” was more about the Reagan administration. GM was moving out before NAFTA. I suppose his argument was that Regan weakened the union, but It’s more about globalization I think.

  Reagan did start with NAFTA but couldn’t sell Congress on it. Neither could Bush I. Clinton had no issue selling it because ther Dems did whatever he asked and the Republicans had already backed the idea. Which is my point of neither party is for the working man. They are self serving to stay in office, stay in power & please their donors. That is until the majority of voters tell them to GTFO.

  Also to consider- the general public has a very vague idea of actual labor costs. If a company pays an employee $25/hr. At first thought many see that as the labor cost. Some will identify the employer pays payroll taxes and figure out it’s probably 10-20% higher on the labor cost as a result. However- it is closer to 35% over the hourly wage. That is to cover workman’s compare for the position, payroll taxes for state & Feds, Social Security taxes, unemployment taxes, health and welfare benefits, 401k match if available. That 35% is a very conservative figure and I have seen tri cost come in close to 45% higher than hourly wage after audits and financial budgets & disclosures were issued. That $25/hr is a true cost of close to $40/hr. If you want a higher share of that true cost, how about a large % being given to Incle Sam be returned to the people who earned it in the first place.
