It baffles me that tariffs are really left-wing policies, but everyone is so panty-bunched up about orange man.. suddenly taxes to support domestic labor and reduce the exploitation of impoverished countries are “bad”. The left is now anti-union, loves slave labor migrant workers, and they are supporting billionaire industrialists who are going to be significantly hurt by these tariffs through decreased demand.
But…. He’s so…. ORANGE! I HATE HIM!

How quickly we forget about supply chain screw ups when we rely on other countries to provide what we need. China ordered to pay billions for hoarding face masks during the pandemic & the US had no toilet paper. Lesson learnedTariffs only benefit certain individuals in a specific sector depending upon what the tariffs are for. I understand the point to tariffs are to keep jobs from being moved overseas and to bring back manufacturing to America. It will help people have access to more jobs in a very specific location if a factory opens up, but it will increase consumer prices across the board. If a company has to pay workers a fair wage at a factory in America vs a factory in China, that cost will 100% be implemented in the price we all pay.

Hey.. Right now in a Nazi dragon capsule ready to launch, there’s an American woman commander, an American woman pilot, a Japanese guy to command back home, and.. gasp.. A RUSSIAN GUY. What if he violates the ladies on the way up and starts another war with Japan? Ay-ay-ay.. What if he starts a Russian disinformation campaign on Facebook about DEI capsule pilots? Oh my.

It’s actually kinda crazy that I’m finding common ground with the people I am. We fucking hate each other but acknowledge logic from stupidity. I wouldn’t back up brown note because I like him, it’s because what he’s saying makes sense. Viking I don’t think is very fond of me- not sure (can’t remember at this point) but he’s aware of how the conversation looked and knows what’s factual from myth or just downright ignoring conversation pieces

I think the best point to end the tariff argument, is when Simcoe said that the intentions are for more things to be built here. It will be a process for sure, but with time producing more here will boost the economy and create more jobs. Before Trump I always noticed how everything seemed to come from China or another country. I never knew how America managed to keep surviving (more like falling with a smile on our faces lol), but always assumed it had to do with trade/our military strength. Politics aside I hope jobs are created within the next year, and that we the people will work together to make our home a better place for all despite race, religion, who is president, or anything else. To me it seems pretty obvious to bring things back here, but I also think it’s good to question the people pushing it and ensure they aren’t personally profiting from these changes(although I personally dont believe this to be the case)
-
I don't think the people pushing for this are gonna be personally profiting, but just want to make America look strong and independent. Boost the economy and job growth even if it means prices go higher. Why do they care tho? The rich are already rich. So a billionaire has to pay $30 more for something vs someone who just lost a meal or 2 from that extra $30. I mean it won't even matter if you're a millionaire either.

Since Simcoe lost the debate by not proving his point, it’s time for new territory.
To recap: his 3 examples of specifically targeted tariffs – had negative outcomes.
He claims my statement is “fake.” I leave it to you to research. (I hope your blood pressure is OK Simcoe 😉)
A quick reminder on just 2 DJT claims:
1-“A tariff is a tax on a foreign country.”
100% FALSE.Fact: Tariffs are fees on imported goods. That cost burdens the consumer.
2- Factories will return or spring up in no time. Thus: job creation. Ridiculous.
Fact: Companies left years ago for labor that on average cost them less than $100 a month per employee.
Confident prediction: these jobs are not coming back. (Do starving people scrounging for acorns constitute a factory?)
So, in the spirit of the thread’s topic, I’ll occasionally bullet the Twilight Zone world of DJT. Things meant for Trump supporters to ponder.
Warning: Potential dark humor ahead. Do not be offended.
Again: There is no shame in changing your mind.

Thank God DJT is taking on BIG Champagne! Now these are the tariffs we voted for!
200% tariffs on those sneaky French manipulators of bubbly grape juice - something America has definitely been losing sleep over.
Apparently, Europe is responding to the stable genius’s economic fever dream with their own tariffs on American whiskey. Gee… Who saw that coming, right? The nerve of them.
So the big question is now: Will Budweiser step up? For the deadened American pallet, it might be an easy fix. Throw some artificial flavoring into that beer and call it: “Chumpain?”
Don’t be surprised if it happens. Because at the rate things are going, you just can’t make this stuff up.

It isn’t a good thing to have a lack of self sustainability. When you become a dependent of another, you acquiesce to their control.
The United States is the largest goods importer in the world. U.S. goods imports from the world totaled $3.2 trillion in 2022, up 14.6 percent ($413.7 billion) from 2021. China was the top supplier of goods to the United States, accounting for 16.5 percent of total goods imports. -
〓∞Persephone∞〓 wrote:
I certainly agree to that. The problem of the US becoming an importer as opposed to an exporter as it used to be, are the companies themselves. They left America for literal slave labor. All because too many Americans were making a good living and buying homes and putting back their money into the economy. It’s called greed. And when CEOs went from making thousands in bonuses to 100’s of millions… There was no going back. Sadly, there are some companies doing the right thing today, but not enough. It isn’t a good thing to have a lack of self sustainability. When you become a dependent of another, you acquiesce to their control.

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!
Rupert Murdoch is now heading into the RINO zone for criticizing the Frankenstein he created.
In his paper, The Wall Street Journal, (Big Brother to Foxy) he called his son’s actions ‘the dumbest tariff plunge’ and his plan the 'dumbest trade war in history'
Whew! Did Hannity even mention this? Or is he shaking in his boots about what to say?
“To offend or not to offend the orange master… that is the question.”
Will Daddy Murdoch soon be banished and labeled, The Grand Rhinoceros? Was he always a democrat anyway?
Maybe, Murdoch is just another “globalist?” Isn’t that the same as a communist? Or socialist? Or a demorat? Or an “enemy of the people”?
Stay tuned as we witness yesterday‘s: “four legs good” becoming “four legs bad.”
(That dumb-dumb Orwell just may have been onto something. And Pavlov too.)
You just can’t make this stuff up.

Stagger I can agree about way over inflated executive salaries- with that said China as a government owns in whole or in part most of their largest export parent companies. That creates even a larger advantage to them since they are government companies
-
China leads the world in trade surplus & it isn’t close. Almost 250% more than 2nd place Germany- then Ireland, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland & Russia.
For trade deficits
USA is #1 by 1000% over #2 India, the UK, Turkey, France , Phillipines & then Japan.Change is way overdue

That’s a very interesting point about China as many economists have been bringing up for a while now.
It’s the ultimate irony. They are wildly succeeding in ways their communist counterparts never imagined. (Too many factors to list.)
That said: state control in their case has worked favorably because they have embraced capitalism to a degree that their counterparts never did.
(Well… Putin is aping it, but its more the oligarch remnants from the Soviet Union era Black Market running the show. They basically became a crime syndicate, with Putin at the top of chain. A very bad model that Donnie is trying to implement at the moment.)

One thing that seems to be on the horizon is China maneuvering to become the world currency. Besides being the foundation of BRICS, they’ve accrued the largest gold reserves.
(Trump is so clueless that he thought Spain was a BRIC member. Talk about a forehead slap.)
It’s likely it will be matter of time before they invite the world off of the petrodollar and back onto gold - especially since the US is now becoming more erratic and unpredictable. Continuity matters when it comes to policy in this disregard.
Republican or democrat, every president and his team have understood the importance of this. It means not only sustaining American power, but economic stability and interests around the globe. Cooperation with allies IS strength.
(This whole notion of Isolating from the “globalists” is literally the stuff of a high school schoolyard. “Yeah man… Let’s bring it all down because you know… These people are the ones who really control us.”)
Oh really? Careful what you wish for kids.

Those lines have been regurgitated by every MAGA fan throughout the land. I believe it was Kellyanne Conway, who started that bold face lie? It’s just laughable because none of it is true.
I suppose you believe Trump when he said Zelensky‘s approval rating was only at 4%? Checkmate. It’s at 70%.
There are no facts when it comes to MAGA lsnd.

Extra, Extra, Don’t Read All About it!
Once again, DJT headed to FL for a “special golf tournament” hosted by the man himself. A sort of mini vacation while the economy is tanking.
Amazingly, he won his own tournament! Apparently the faux gold trophy was already pre-inscribed. It’s like they KNEW he would win ahead of time. Just amazing.
The actual headline blasted by Fox News was: “Trump Wins Golf Championship A Day After Ordering Strikes On Terrorists.” I am impressed.
It’s certainly the kind of stuff that makes leaders like Kim Jong-un extremely jealous.
The message to the common man is so poignant. It almost surpasses when he circled the Daytona 500 in the presidential jet, waving out the window, hoping spectators would wave back.
(His appearance there was actually cheaper than the Super Bowl which used 15 million in taxpayer money. Totally considerate of him especially with all the cuts over at DOGE.)
And you just can’t make this stuff up.

Succeeding in unprecedented scale of daming rivers and building hydroelectric stations- environmental pollution, indentured servitude of govt housing for govt job and government food in exchange for unregulated labor. The socialist dream.

Modern China is a conundrum for sure. Only two decades ago they were a 3rd world communist crap show with nothing to show, but a growing military, a starving and illiterate citizenship with a keen eye on Hong King. (I personally think handing it over was a huge mistake.)
That said – let’s not muddy the waters between communism and socialism.
There is a big difference that I’m not going into here.
However, one can equally say that communist China is actually a hyper-capitalist’s dream.
“Get as much as you can for as little as you can” pretty much sums up the driver of capitalism.
(For the record, I’m a capitalist who believes that moderate regulation in certain sectors is necessary for lots of reasons)
That said – capitalism without any oversight is a dream for those who want absolute power.
Hello China… where the majority have zero rights. Freely express your mind? You’re gone.
Authoritarianism comes in many flavors. China’s Capitalism is just that.
