A suspected Covid-19 male patient is lying in bed in the hospital, wearing an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose. A young student female nurse arrives and starts general observations.
"Nurse,"' he mumbles from behind the mask, "are my testicles black?"
Annoyed, the young nurse replies, "I don't know, Sir. I'm only here to do general observations."
He struggles to ask again, "Nurse, please check for me. Are my testicles black?"
Concerned that he might elevate his blood pressure and heart rate from worrying about his testicles, she overcomes her embarrassment and pulls back the covers.
She raises his gown, holds his manhood in one hand and his testicles gently in the other.
She looks very closely and says, "There's nothing wrong with them, Sir. They look fine."
The man slowly pulls off his oxygen mask, smiles at her, and says very slowly,"Thank you very much. That was wonderful. Now listen very, very, closely:
"Are - my - test - results - back?"

Or report a cause of death as something other than its not.
Maybe English isn’t your first language or perhaps you left school early and struggle to comprehend the language.

Prior to the pandemic if a patient goes to hospital and has “the flue” while also having other serious disease (heart,lung,kidney etcc.). The flu exacerbated their underlying disease and die- the cause of death is listed as the underlying disease, not the flu. Now flip that, since a pandemic is declared the exact opposite occcurs. The same patient would have the cause of death as COVID and not the underlying disease.
I’m not trying to diminish the threat of COVID, just pointing out that the stats only reflect what and HOW things are counted. Comparing apples to oranges doesn’t get you anywhere.

@persephone..Correct. Ex. Heat waves cause an insane amount of deaths. Most of those are a result of people who have preexisting conditions(weak hearts, etc.) Their death is categorized as a result of the heat wave.
I don’t interpret that as the debate coming from Viking though. I think it’s how we convey these statistics to each other.
-Fact- Baby had covid19 and likely expired earlier than it would have without the catalyst.
-Debate(as I read) - What degree of caution does this babies’ death warrant? Does it mean anything as far as elevating current precautions. Should we now assume this viral strain has changed its target audience? we grab up what we find interesting. Stories and stats that open eyes. Do these statistics have any weight. Sometimes. Sometimes no. I feel we tend to grab up the ones that pull our heartstrings before the more relative(boring) ones though.
There are pile of statistics out there. We are exposed to data and statistics that we probably aren’t able to handle. IMO. -
