Im a christian and i have read the old testamanet as well as several newer editions.
I can say that the book is incredibly racsist, sexist and elitist. However, while many stories encourage murder, rape and hate there are also many stories that teach love, compassion and forgiveness.
It is up to us humans, which stories we take to heart and learn their themes. Sadly, hate is an easier path than love and that is why Christians and Muslims and Jews all fight.

Nice answer, so do you think those that choose to fight, as ordained in the books (Bible, Koran, etc...) go to heaven if they are following the sections of the books they choose??Im a christian and i have read the old testamanet as well as several newer editions.

2. I ask you to provide scripture and verse from the New Testament using correct context that commands me to physically kill someone because of religion. If there is no verse commanding this, then Christians killing Muslims are not following the Bible.

Just because a story in the bible has rape does not mean it encourages it. The Bible, like I stated before, is a history book among many things. It includes many accounts, some of which do include rape, but it does not tell you to "go rape someone."

@LeWolfe
"Thou shalt not permit a witch to live" commands people to kill.
Isn't that in the bible somewhere? We learned about that when learning about the Salem witch trials a couple months ago. Sorry I'm not religious and I don't know that much about the bible and religious ideas. -
And hyena, I hate to say this, I've stated multiple times that if a "Christian" is not following the Bible, they are wrong, so using an example of Christians killing Muslims and Muslims killing Christians is going in circles. We've dealt that point. They are wrong; not following the bible. I could say I worship a cactus. And if the cactus says not to eat carrots, and then I go eat carrots yet still claim to worship the cactus....

And sorry hyena, I like to debate, but I get busy sometimes and don't have time to answer, I'll check in when I can.

Old Testament, different dispensation, not a relevant command to the New Testament church. Any Bible scholar from a theology school will back me up on that. -

So god changed his mind?

No, but that's a good question. I need to you go look up these things: different dispensation in the Bible, fulfillment of the "Law", and contextual meanings of scripture. Very long to try and type out and you can google the terms and learn faster than I can type.So god changed his mind?

Also look up: moral law vs ceremonial law vs civic law in the bible, that should help some.🔰Superyan🔰 wrote:

First of all, god is all knowing, right? He knows everything. So why set rules he knows he going to change in the future?
Like he set impossible standards for us to fulfil, hence us needing Christ. Shouldn't he have known that we were never going to fulfil those standards?
What about all the people before Christ? Did they go to hell and suffer eternal pain for a couple of thousand years till Christ arrived and rescued them?
And if god knew he was going to do that all along, then he made them suffer for no reason. Leading to Hyenas point of that god is a dick. -
Remember, I am not here to argue, I want to have a constructive debate, if you have a genuine point please post and I'll try to reply for as much as I know. If I don't know I will research and hit up a few bible scholar friends of mine and try to get back to you. I have no vendetta against people who choose not to believe in the Bible. All I ask and have stated is please go out and research what you "believe." It's been stated in this forum by both hyena and I. You cannot be ignorant on your beliefs whatever they may be.

And again, no. God did not change his mind. Key words both in Bible study and hermeneutics, context and dispensational periods.

You expect me to do research? Phfft!
To be completely honest, I used to believe in god. But then I found I'd rather not believe in him.
If there truly is someone up there who is all powerful and all loving, but instead chose for me to suffer the experience of 2 completely different cases of cancer, at which the first one was at the age of 14.
If that god truly loved me, I would have magically been healed. Not have fought 2 years of chemo and still lost my leg.
If that god truly loved me, I wouldn't have been forced to go through that chemo again this year along with TBI and a bone marrow transfusion.
Nah, I'd rather believe that the most loving thing in existence doesn't exist. Didn't let me suffer needlessly. Didn't create the illness I had to spite two people who were born thousands of years before me. -
Offt, the bitterness I have.
-
Yes I expect you study, try telling the IRS that you don't want to study and do your own taxes, see how that works out. As for the cancer, I am truly sorry for you, you have my sympathy. If you would like explanations regarding disease and sin in the world pm me. If it deals with personal experience I don't want to post on the general forum.
-
(And when I said sin I wasn't referring to you, I was referring to your reference to Adam and Eve)

Nah, I'm not going to change, I'm afraid.
Unfortunately, if I was to die right now and saw god. I'd probably still reject him. Spend my time with satan, at least he's killed less people. -

Unfortunately I'll have to respectfully disagree with you, satan has killed more people exponentially than God ever did. Depends on your view of life and the Bible. All debate aside I hope you get better and I will personally pray for you my friend. I want God to touch you, whether you believe in him or not.Nah, I'm not going to change, I'm afraid.

Satan???? Isnt he the good guy since he keeps all the bad guys out of heaven and tortures them?

Guys I never post on here other than a congrats but to say that God eternally damns anyone is incorrect. I use to battle with this thought myself. You as a human choose your eternity. If you choose to not have a relationship and spend eternity away from Him then that is your choice. If he made you stay in Heaven and forced a relationship with Him upon you then that would be Hell, hence no need for either to exist nor any blood ever to have been shed as a sacrifice. Forced love is not love, it is always a choice. And I don't argue or begrudge anyone's choice but respect it regardless of the consequences of it.
-
Ahhh the Satan v God debate. More people have died in the name of a god than in the name of a devil/demon/Satan... Now whilst I expect an arguement that the devil made them do it or deceived them. Surely, an omnipotent all loving god would be aware of what is being done to his "children" in his name and save them from damnation. However all I am seeing in these posts is that there are bad Christians much like bad atheists and those people will also not be saved.... I'm just think heaven must be a very empty place as I don't know anyone worthy who also worships god... Everyone has their secrets or stepped over a beggar instead of helping. So many churches hoard money and damn the victims of abuse by their priests.... It is only now decades later when public pressure is applied that these godly folk repent, not because they did anything but because they were caught.
-
You couldn't have proved my point better hyena, God specifically deals with people that have unrepentant sin in their life, no they will not get to heaven. And would you rather me lie and say scripture sayst hat bad people get to heaven too? And God does love us. In his scripture he lists a simple plan to be saved, you don't need a degree in theology to follow it thankfully 😉lol

Bad as in unrepentant
