How do we encourage new players to stay?
Forums › General Discussion › How do we encourage new players to stay?-
I wanted to hear some discussion on this. We all play differently but the key to game survival is the new player.
Agree or disagree but the fact is there needs to be better way to get new players to stay. I was just in a tournament for 4 weeks. I entered every temp code and every daily code plus a few. I only added 720 mob in 4 weeks. Range or no range I have 45 K Tommie's and a new player probably will never catch me at 49 K mob. How do we not discourage new players is the question. -
Actually be nice to them.
-
Help them in whatever game play the choose ... Show them the options of game play and encourage .... Then get them on to pal ... And accept any gratuities they offer lol👍
-
I say cap them, not so much that they rage quit, but enough to get them interested, I'd never have stayed playing if I didn't have enemies 👍 although I wouldn't like a 30k mob capturing me 😒
-
Eat them Alive
-
Every time a new person posts here, they get shitted on. That's not gonna encourage new players to stay.
When people see new mobsters in their area, reach out to them and offer help/advice.

I received this from someone who is a silent player.
“In regard to your forum post, in my opinion, people need to stop ridiculing the smaller casual players. If they post, they're almost immediately told to mob up, they're talked down to, ridiculed for high level and low mob, etc. not everyone plays this game competitively enough to justify spending time punching codes. I'm 9k, and I won't even post in the forum often, because I know I'll just be flattened for no reason.” -

Interesting: I just got another message from a 4K player who doesn't post on forums but he says he would not recommend game to friends.
I obviously like the game. -
Guys I love this game. But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, because if all the big 20k + mobsters now. Chances are you won't catch up to them, and even if you reach 20k, they will have grown even more. It's impossible to get a capo now, because all capos are "mobbed up" and continue to grow. So for new players, why even try?

Not true. From when I started there where several smaller players that didn't play till months after me and now they're 30k+ mob rolling with well rounded alliances.Guys I love this game. Not to mention that smaller players that want to use airports to expand somewhere else can't because of oppressive players there

Shut up. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I'm going to cap 20 of your turf now for posting crap like that.✮⇚❹☠❶☠❺⇛✮ wrote:

I think a lot of it comes down to our attitude.
We get tired of repeating the same things over and over forgetting that this is the first time the recipient has been informed of this.
We are having a bad day and receive a turf attack and go and flatten the bloke instead of talking to him.
We need to slow down, have a look at the player and their experience. Talk to them, not order them around. If they won't discuss and learn then maybe but we need to educate not beatdown.

I agree with the rejection that is pushed onto new players who post in GD with the obligatory 'noob' label. We all started somewhere and we were in the same boat as them,we should welcome them with open arms and guide where necessary.

I blame society. For some of us, learning to take a hit on the chin was the attitude adjustment many of us needed. It taught some of us how to be humble and others how to fight back.
Now, we live in an age where every child is told that they can be whatever they want. This simply is not true. Yet, every child gets a ribbon for "participating" rather than a second place trophy out of fear that it will hurt their self-esteem.
If players are so incredibly sensitive to posting a comment in a forum out of fear, then maybe a war game is not a good fit for them. Maybe they should take their "participation" ribbon and go on to the next ap.
Just sayin'

That's tough because people's personalities are so different. New & established players are motivated by different things.
@Thomas - I tried the Pal thing for Houston years ago. I think the chat app freaked new players out more than anything - almost no one new joined, lol.
@charzar - I don't understand. You have several capos. There are tons (maybe even most?) of players that don't care about capos. There are also still tons of capos out there - far more exist now than when I started playing. So it might take a little work to get one, there's nothing wrong with that.
-
@ the silent player - if you like the game so much that you're worried about being flattened, than it's hard to believe you don't have 5-10 minutes to punch codes. I don't typically see players flattened for no reason. People get flattened for trolling or posting controversial things. Just the other day a noob posted a hello thread & got great response.
-
Instead of flattening noobs who insult you or use vulgar/racist/sexist etc terms, maybe we could inform them politely how to act if they want to thrive in the game and be accepted by the community. I'm not saying that racists and vulgar eleven year olds should go unpushished, but people get mad and make mistakes. Just politely tell them not to conduct themselves like such and to remove forum posts, turf, etc that include the offensive terms, and see the response you get from them.

Ditto. Pity the new player who posts in the forums cause it's mostly full of snarky trolls. Anyone who reaches out to me, I help get on their feet (ICM, noob forum, etc) All here who've been playing a year or more need to reach out or there won't be a game left to play... 😥Every time a new person posts here, they get shitted on. That's not gonna encourage new players to stay.

I completely disagree. We are not their parents and I seriously doubt that an iPhone game will reform even the most average eleven year olds. No matter how "politely" one may ask.

For me personally, I take most people at face value. Players that generally get smashed in the forums more than likely have it coming to them, even if the community doesn't see it. And yes, comments can be made by way of a PM prior to their introduction to the forums. The players that show a small amount of respect or decency usually are treated in the same manner.
I know of 2 very different alliances that smash noobs just to see what they are made of and how they will react. From what I am told, it is more or less a way of screening and profiling new players.
-
Ok good points by all. Now I was just talking to a long time player who asked me a question so I ask You...
What can "big" players do to help new players? -
I'll throw out some that might help and are controversial.
All airports are kept open friend or foe.
This is a war game.. Let the boys come!!! Ha ha ha -
I'll drop all my upgrades and not tax the new kids. I say that but I have $ 1.1 trillion.
-
Sorry, got interrupted before I could finish.
I'd be willing to bet that most players that quit are kids (meaning under 18 here). They are more likely to post without thinking about what they say. They are more likely to post something just for shock value. They're in the whole teenager rebellion phase where they don't want to listen to adults. They think they know everything. (I certainly don't mean all kids. We have some really great kids here!)
This game also isn't about instant gratification. It takes time to see your mob grow, to hop places, etc. Many kids aren't good with the whole delay of gratification.

@Dova - I've tried that & still try it. I'd say it works maybe 5% of the time. Granted, I'd say I'm less patient & nice about it then I used to be.

Fix all the issues with the game that are obvious so that the game is better presented with no glaring development faults I.e attack/def points.
More free turf limit so free players can player at higher level then they currently can.
A reliable free points system to aid the above.
Some new leaderboards, weekly stats, tournaments run by the developers to generate enthusiasm/issue rewards, etc.
Any other novel idea that helps make this game unique........
