👆I'm not sure why you "quoted" me acting like I said that? And I'm not saying obese people are bad, but I do think they can be uncomfortable to sit by, and that should come with a price. It was said earlier, and I agree, it is just business

Overreacting much? If you take up two seats, you pay for two seats. End of story.

@Jaeos - I don't think insisting that people step on a scale, even if it is with their luggage, would go over very well.

Hahaha... Ok, now I get it. Sociology 101 at Loraine business college combined with TV watching does tend to make Internet people want to share their vast knowledge of various social issues. And FYI, I actually studied this in sociology last semester. My interest was renewed when I saw something on TV about the airline industry and charging overweight passengers for extra seats.
This is a serious problem in our society. Not just on Turfwars, but also on more significant academic platforms such as Reddit, Digg, Yahoo Groups, and Facebook.
You are costing us all a fortune in time and electrons. We need to find a solution to your drain on our lives.

First thing I have ever seen you post that I don't agree with. While its true that some can do something about it, there are some that cannot help that they are that big! One of my closest friends is morbidly obese weighing at almost 500 pounds, the doctors have put her on all different kinds of medicines to help with her condition and to help her lose weight but it will not come off! I've had her out walking with me everyday and dieting and nothing helps :(Should an obese person be charged extra for seats on a plane? I think that if they allow themselves to get that big, then they should deal with the consequences. Its not fair to the other paying passengers if you're smashing them against the wall.

Medicine isn't the way to go if you're trying to lose weight. There are some very good exercise programs, as walking may not get it done. I did an exercise program with my soccer team, preseason, as conditioning and it was very helpful. You might want to try something like this. It's fun to do it with friends, so maybe even doing it with her could be a good idea☣ 🎸ӈɪƖƖßıƖƖγ🎸☣ wrote:

When you are almost 500 lbs walking is an exercise. People think just because someone isn't running they aren't working but it is all about raising their heart rate. While I agree that medicine is not the answer, neither is a conditioning program designed for a soccer team. Walking is a good place to start and even though the results won't be immediate there will be improvements.💜💙〽isty Ⓓunn💙💜 wrote:

@jeremy the exercise program wasn't for our soccer team, or even designed for soccer. It's designed for people to do at home to get in shape. And walking would help, but finding an exercise program could be much more beneficial

Trust me when I say that an "exercise program" would not be good for someone who is 500 pounds. It would be too much for them to handle and they would probably injure themselves. They have to start with small changes and gradually increase the amount of physical activity they engage in. When you are that large you cannot just jump into a workout plan designed for the average out of shape person.@jeremy the exercise program wasn't for our soccer team, or even designed for soccer. Here's the thing. I'm 5'10" and weigh 280. I would be marked as obese due to my height/weight ratio. I do a rigorous workout 4-5 times a week, burning approximately 1000 calories. I have a daily caloric intake of 1800 calories. I've fought my way down from 320 to 280 in the course of a year. Looking at my intake, you can see that I mainly consume lean meats, whole grains and lots of veggies. The point I'm making is some people marked as obese do what they can to improve their health but simply cannot kick start their metabolism without some sort of medical treatment. And morbidly obese tend to have sky high blood pressure. Strenuous exercise can cause them to pop a coronary. This can further depression, causing them to make the situation even worse.

I have no problems with airlines charging for two seats when two seats are required.
I have a problem with thinner people expecting fatter people to have a certain level of personal responsibility. "It's not hard, just lose weight."
It's exactly the same thing as Mitt Romney telling you to "fly first class. It's not hard. Just make more money."
It's like saying gay people can't get married because that's gross. You shouldn't be setting or demanding policy for the lifestyles and problems of other people. It's not your business.
You should probably set your own standards, and let everyone else set theirs.

Losing weight is easy, it's the getting started that's hard. I weighed 260lbs and now I'm down to 210-20, and life gets easier when you lose it. Sorry if I offended anyone. That's not what I meant to do.

For some its impossible to lose weight.
For some their just too lazy to lose weight
You can't generalize and say "it's easy"
I'm blessed to have the opposite problem. I'm 50 and can eat whatever I want and not worry about it. As a kid I did everything I could to put on weight NOTHING worked.
