Where were you on 9/11/2001?

I was sleeping when the first plane hit. I was 22 at the time, and living with my mother. She started screaming that they bombed the wtc and it woke me up. I rushed out in time to hear them to say it was an airplane and then the second plane hit. I remember later that night, I went out with some friends and got wasted. None of us could snap out of the daze.

I was at my birthday party in Waukee Iowa it had just got over.

I was 7. I woke up from my grandmother telling me what happened & I saw it on the news. I walked to school with my friend Austin and our teacher had us all sitting in a circle while she talked a bit about what happened, with not very much graphic detail of course, since we were only in 2nd grade. When I got home I found out that my little sister was born that morning. Yeah, today is also my sister's 12th birthday.

I was at work and my co-worker called me and said a plane crashed into the new York state fair he call 5 minutes later when he got it more accurate
A sad day for all those family's and rescue workers involved -
I was in the jury room at our local court house.
-
Was a junior in high school at the time. Moms woke me up just in time for me to see the second plane hit live. Then when I got to school the first or second tower collapsed. It all seemed like a bad dream. I was in a state of perpetual shock for the remainder of the day.

was in mdtown manhattan watched it all v sad

What I love about that time frame was how unified our country was after that horrible day. It didnt matter if you were black or white, rich or poor, republican or democrat. It didnt matter what religion you had (or if you didn't have one at all). We were a unified country. That's something about our country today that I really do miss.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. And please continue to do so. I find it really interesting to read about your guys' experiences. And as long as Turf Wars exists, I'll be bumping this thread back up so the stories can keep adding up.

I was 21, in the US Navy, stationed at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, FL. Just about to transfer to Keflavik, Iceland, I was getting my overseas antiterrorism briefing from the command security officer Lt. Seeley. Inside a room with no windows and a door that resembles that of a bank vault, 2 red telephones that have no buttons to dial for a call, just a direct line to the skipper and the other one I could only imagine where it had a direct line to. I believe we were talking about the USS Cole, Oklahoma City, and the first bombing of the twin towers at the time the first plane struck.

Each one of us has a different personal story to share in this thread but they all have one thing in common. We will never forget where we were and what we were doing when we first heard the news.
-
Time to bring this thread back.

Indeed👍👍 time to remember all those affected by this barbaric event 🙏🙏Time to bring this thread back.
I had just landed in Jamaica and was preparing to get married, had just had breakfast, went back to the hotel room to freshen up, put the tv on and caught this on the news, spent the rest of the day watching the tragic events😳😢🙏

My reenlistment had been pushed back several weeks already. I was finally able to reenlist on September 4, 2001 on the USS Intrepid in NYC. If it had been pushed back again I was going to have it on top of the WTC Sept. 11, 2001. My entire chain of command was going to be there as well. So I would have either been heading there or would have already been on top of the building.

September 11th 2001
That day would be a scar on mine and my colleagues brains for life...... A few of our work colleagues had been in WTC 1 when the plane hit..... Watched the whole situation on CNN...
Five minutes after the second plane hit our office was given the orders "UK is now on severe threat!" -

I was 5 and in Kindergarten.
Everyone was scared.
The teachers were appalled.
The principal, speechless as she was, managed to say that school was cancelled over the intercom.
Many of my classmates left scarred that day.
#neverforget -
I was working in Belfast , watching it with a site full of workers.
When the 2nd plane hit an Irish guy turned to me and said " this is the beginning of the end for the IRA" and he was right -
Working for Morgan Stanley at the time. Was actually at home sick that day when my mother called me to tell me what was happening. I turned on my TV just as the second plane hit.

I was in flight training at my college. My instructor and I took off and were practicing stalls. About 20 mins in, flight ops desk came on the radio telling us that the FAA issued a SCATANA order and that we were to land immediately. We landed at the nearest ap (about 20 miles from home) and sat there watching the news in the lounge until we got picked up hours later.

On the phone with my dad who spent most of his life working in the Middle East because he spoke fluent Arabic and had a deep knowledge of the culture... yet he couldn't comprehend that someone, anyone, could do that deliberately.
What a terrible day in the history of the world.

I was home sick alone that day under heavy medications. I was watching tv and sleeping on and off. So when I saw it I thought I was either dreaming or watching a movie. It took me a little while to realize what was actually happening and I had no one around to talk about it. I'll never forget.

I was mourning the deaths of my family in bosnia as they were killed by serbian radicals in the genocide against the bosnian muslims

I was 4. I don't know 😕

I was 27, a waitress working on the QE2 in the Atlantic heading for New York
The night before I'd watched a documentary about someone who flew into the Emphre State building in fog
When I went into the galley one of my friends caught me and said someone had just flown into one of the towers. I was surprised to say the least.
On my next trip to the galley a few minutes later she told me the other had also been hit
Everyone on the ship just wanted to turn found and head back to England
We were due to get to New York 3 days later but never got there. We ended up being allowed to dock into Boston and security was the tightest I've ever seen
It was my last trip before I finished working at sea and came home -
Every year I share this. Never forget. If you haven't posted on here before, share your stories.
I think of this day all the time. When I see republicans and democrats slinging mud at each other. When I see people of different races attacking each other. When I see different sexual orientations battle with people who oppose.
So much hate/division in the world today.
I hated what happened in 9/11, but I loved how much our country came together that year. It didn't matter who you were or what you stood for, we were one.
I would love to see us like that again someday.

I just happened to be watching the news at the time and saw it all unfold in real time. My world view changed dramatically from that point on.
-
I was in working in an office in London's financial district thinking we were going to be attacked next.
The world has not been the same since...
