Uhhh... Right to take drugs? No dude in the States the Rights of Man are clearly outlined in the Constitution. And for everyone else using the Michael Moore argument, firearms does not include land mines, nukes, and tanks.
And if we are limiting the 2nd amendment why not the fifth? Why not the fourth - if I could search anyone I wanted to without arrest, consent, or exigency I can guarantee I'd save lives.

Free speech is already limited. Free press is limited. Due process is not universal. The right to vote is limited. And, in case nobody realizes it, the right to bear arms is ALREADY limited. And all of the above has been deemed constitutional by the Supreme Court. So, to answer your question, yes, rights can be limited. They want to do a ban on certain rifles? Already done. And the constitution refers to God-given rights of man, not government-given rights. And you need to look at writings from the era and since then to understand the motivations and translations and debates of the second amendment which was left intentionally simple and direct. But if we are disagreeing on the nuts and bolts of limitations of these rights, can we also limit free speech a little? How about freedom of the press? Shut down the paparazzi and Princess Di is still alive. Let's limit due process too, while we're at it.

Arguing about whether it's constitutional is moot. Oh, and god was not mentioned anywhere in the constitution the last time i read it.

we live in a democracy. The beauty of that is you don't need weapons to protect againat tyranny. Just a voice.
As for self defense, assault rifles aren't needed. Pistols kill too. So do shotguns. So do rifles.

Logical gun laws:
limiting clip capacity(10 round reloading is totally reasonable)
Requiring background checks( standard background checks only)
Limits on how many guns one can own( collectors exempted- guns 50 years or older(give or take a decade))
Limiting assault rifle usage to those who have a reason to have one( I'm talking hunting permits or something of that nature but honestly you shouldn't have to hunt with a thirty round death machine)That being said! I do not think that the government should confiscate guns bought before any of the aforementioned laws take place. You ease into the cold water, don't just throw the American people in.

“To Conquer a Nation, First Disarm its Citizens”
There is no evidence of the source for this quote, Hitler or otherwise.
Hitler DID express some similar sentiments, but he was not speaking of conquering his own people.
The Nazis actually relaxed gun laws for Germans while restricting them for Jews.
We don’t know if Hitler said it, and Nazi gun control was primarily aimed at those Hitler wanted to conquer, not his own people.

Totally reasonable except the limit on rounds to 10 seems arbitrary. My smith .9 holds 17 per magazine plus one chambered. If a bad guy has 18 rounds in a handgun, the rifle should have at least that, no?Logical gun laws:

I gotta run but thanks to everyone for keeping this topic civil despite it being an emotional one with passionate believers on both sides. ✌

Michael Moore or not, is it not my right to own a nuke, tank or land mine - cash requirement aside? It's the same constitutional argument used to own assault weapons. How do you know that hand held nuclear devices will not be available 100 years from now? The amount of firepower available today compared to the times of the constitution writing is probably proportional to me having a nuke 100 years from now. Why not buy one now, be prepared.

Also this whole point become mute if you can 3-D print gun parts and clips with unimaginable clip sizes, then put them together.

People lack to see the big picture. The errosion of our constitution will happen little by little. It's not about the AR or AK rifles .It's about being equally equipped to those who may one day try to take freedoms away. The 2nd amendment isn't about hunting or sporting . There are two types of people in this country sheep and sheep dog. Too many of you want daddy government to defend you and feed you during a crysis.I feel bad for your "educated ignorant hippy ass".We don't live in a world of rainbows and butterflies. I hope it never happens but if war ever comes to our soil.I feel bad for the sheep.

I will give everyone a good reason why We need to keep all our guns. We were originally allowed guns to protect ourselvs FROM OUR OWN GOVERNMENT. The founding fathers gave us the right because the government is suppose to serve at the will of the people, and if they didn't we could revol and have a good chance of wining. If they take our guns away it is only making the government that much stronger. And for the people who think guns are the problem are very, very wrong. The problem is gun free zones. In Aurora Colorado, during the movie theater massacre, there were 2 Marines (or another branch of the armed forces) in that movie theater. But that movie theater had a no gun policy. If the marines could have carried a gun into that theater it would have ended slot quicker. To sum up my point, the government has no right to take our guns away and ALL of the shootings have happened in gun free zones.

Yea lets let the government do whatever they. Who gives a fuck about our rights and all of the men and women who died to give us those rights. If you don't like guns or don't understand why people want to have them, then don't get one, that's your right to make that choice. Some of you people discust me.

If you don't like the laws, move out of the country. Protest. Write your congressmen.

Point is, they weren't democracies. The people did not have the power that we do.

I am willing to store the weapon of anyone living in MO. PM me for details.

Maybe they should ban murder.
Jefferson said the most basic reason for the 2nd amendment was in case citizens ever needed to again throw off the yoke of a tyrannical gov't. THAT is why citizens need advanced weapons.
