What happened to kids these days?
Forums › General Discussion › What happened to kids these days?-
Kids today are too sensitive and are told how perfect and amazing they are at everything they do.
There are now sports where every kid gets a trophy just for participating. Whatever happened to being competitive and feeling like second place was first loser?
Newsflash!!!
Some of you reading this that are under the age of 16 will and probably do suck at something whether it's academic, professional, or social. You aren't as special as you think and the world is a mean, cruel place that will kick you in the teeth every chance it gets.
Get over it. ✊
(sorry, I didn't get my caffeine this morning) -
Well said. 👍 When you spoil your kids, you're spoiling the next generation.

Sorry, I'm just venting. I just don't understand where this extreme sense of entitlement comes from. I never grew with the feeling that the world or someone owed me anything.

Well, when so many children and teens are given gifts on a regular basis, whether or not it's their birthday or the Holidays, that introduces said attitude. Thus is modern America as a whole.Sorry, I'm just venting. I just don't understand where this extreme sense of entitlement comes from. I have thought the same.
May i also add the ungratefulness of allot of kids these days.
You give them something & the first thing that comes out their mouth is, how much did that cost.. Oh...em.. Thanks.Could be kids are really too spoilt these days?
-
Right sadly I agree with this since I myself would fit in your age group and A. The world owes me nothing and B. I have worked for anything I want. That plus I get a firsthand view at people with the attitude of the world owes me. Also Freemason without his caffeine.......the crazies will be able to find you without it as is none can keep up.

A teacher the other day brought one of her students a small coke from McDonalds as a way of saying "Thank you for your hard work."
Should she have brought that to school for him, probably not. However, the boy looked at it and said, "I would have preferred a large."
WTF!

I hate self entitlement. I am a foreman for a construction crew and we can't hardly keep young workers because kids are to worried about not getting paid the same as the next person. They should be more worried about the fact that they get paid decent. The world isn't fair. Fuck Off.Sorry, I'm just venting. I couldn't agree more, Mason. It's quite sad. Kids these days don't have the tough skin they need to be successful in this world

Mason i agree, parents must teach their children to become adults and live in this harsh world realistically. The men need to stand up and be able to hold their own and reveal to their wimpy kids that they cant have everything they want.

1980
And it shows a teacher, a kid, and 2 parents and the parents are mad and yelling at the kid because of grades.
2013
Same deal except that the parents are yelling at the teacher and the kid has a smug look. -
I am 16 (about to turn 17 in Feb), I never got gifts of any kind except on Christmas and my birthday. I hardly ever got candy outside of Easter and Halloween. Am I the only one my age who was like this????

It's all about the parenting. I am only 24 but my parents tought me that if u want something, then go earn it. I would go out and mow grass, rake leaves, shovel snow, do construction with my dad... Etc. This tought me to be independent. I rely on no one. Now if i need extra cash, i just go do something construction. Again, all about the parenting...

Well said. I been saying this for a while

It's kind if sad because these technologies are taking away creativity.
-
Meh.
I feel entitled to something. I don't know why. I just feel I deserve better then what I currently have.
But that just be cancer making me bitter. Not my generation *shrugs* -
Every generation does a "kids these days" rant. I see a lot of great kids doing stuff for themselves and their communities. Quit being an old grouch and look for the good things happening.
-
lol guess who raised them? Dumb old people. There has always been dumb people, nothing new here, they just listen to Justin Bieber instead of the beach boys now.
-
The world is full of ungrateful kids everything is handed to them and they think that they are entitled and can't do anything wrong because their parents do everything for them along with getting them out of trouble . There is NO accountability for their actions !😡 The only ones to blame is the parents for instilling that

I guess I was raised differently. I know the world is changing and nothing like it was 10, 20, or even 30 years ago. I get that. I just can't wrap my head around how much things have changed.
I can remember being a kid and acting like a jackass. My neighbor bent me over his leg and beat my ass. Then he walked me to my house and my dad thanked him and took a turn to finish what he started.
Now, if kids get smacked in public, everyone freaks out and is tempted to call Child Protective Services.
-
The problem here is the generation of adults that grew up saying "I'll never be like my parents" 😜
I was raised on respect and when I didn't mind it, I was punished. I got everything from being spanked to writing out "I'm sorry for ****" a thousand times. I work for what I want, I don't expect it handed to me, ever. i am socially unable to accept a present or compliment or anything that I don't feel I earned.
I've got little sisters, 10 years younger than me. They are spoiled. They cry and throw tantrums to get why they want, because they're not punished. they're rewarded- at least from my parents. I don't fall for that, and I've let them scream and cry for hours because I don't give in to their demands, and I end up in trouble for it.
Screwed up, eh?Who knows. I'm working on a "year 2000 mental snap" theory.
But they look at the kids today and say the exact same things, FreeMason, and they fail to realize it's the exact same thing as what they're doing.

Agreed! 👍👍

I grew up with a mother who is very hard to impress, and my dad isnt really there all the time (he's always here, but his mind isnt)
-
I hate children. That could have to do with the fact that EVERY FRICKIN CHILD IN MY EXTENDED FAMILY is a badly behaved brat that gets away with everything and anything. I hate them all.
-
My generation has to have the most kids that blatantly just don't give a care. We do what we want. Regardless of the consequences. I tell a teacher to screw off. What's the worse they can do? Write me up? Yell back at me? Send me home? That's the mentality of kids nowadays. We're like this because you adults aren't hard enough on us. You buy us anything we want. Do pretty much anything we ask of you. You let us run all over you. To most kids my age, respect is just a seven letter word. We say yes sir and no sir, but we only do it to get our way. So! Parents, respectfully, it's your fault. 😁
Bring the belts back out. Smash that phone with a hammer. Cut that tv cord. Hide the car keys. Hell, take the bedroom door off the hinges. I know I'd be pissed if my mom took my bedroom door away.
Happy Turfin' 👍👍👍
