Why you don't want to come to Australia 🐔
Forums › General Discussion › Why you don't want to come to Australia 🐔-
You always see advertisements on travel inviting you to come to Australia. They tell you how unique the place is both in flora and fauna. How friendly the locals are, and how beautiful the weather is. Guess what, they lied. Australia is possibly the most dangerous country in the world, pretty much everything here will kill you. In this thread I plan on enlightening you as to why you should not come here.
Then again, us Aussies have a perverse sense of humour and would not want to live anywhere else, (visit sure, but we all still call Australia home). We take a weird pride in the fact that in every backyard in Sydney the worlds deadliest spider abounds and yet we let our kids run around barefoot.

Your women (fauna, haha) are dangerous too.

The Sydney Funnel Web Spider
This spider lives generally within a 100km radius of Sydney Australia's largest city. Before the creation of Anti-Venom this spider was responsible for the death of 13 people, 7 of them children with one dying in 15 minutes. The spider grows up to 2 inches in size, is a dark blue to black in colour. It is an extremely aggressive spider which when cornered rears in an attack position, if you are close enough it will strike repeatedly each time injecting more venom into your system. How common is this spider you ask? VERY... I have seen this spider at a number of houses where I have lived. When camping or going to put on shoes that have been left outside it is standard practice to beat those shoes against a rock. The reason for this is Funnel Webs have a habit of crawling into dark, dank places such as shoes....

Place your socks over your shoes than they cant get in ;-) lol

Hurry up and post again, Hyena.
I would assist you in your quest for general world populous enlightenment, but I'm sitting on the dunny at work (no funnel webs to worry about here, only red backs and white tails lol) ...I'll check in again in a few hours 😉👍

Sounds like scorpions in Arizona. We have the most lethal species (bark scorpions) and these things are impossible to keep out. We also have coyotes, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, black widows, and the wonderful 120+ degree heat. 😊

Ahhh redbacks, have dozens around my place. Got a couple a few months ago that were a good couple of centimeters in size. Those buggers are known to hospitalise children and the infirm, they love hanging around toilets or in small nooks and crannies.Hurry up and post again, Hyena.

Snakes (yes plural)
In order of deadliest and with global ranking
1) Inland Taipan (#1) this snakes bite injects enough venom to kill 100 people. Fortunately this is actually a docile snake that avoids contact with humans. No fatalities, and the only known bites have been to snake keepers or those seeking them out. As such they had the anti-venom with them.
2) Eastern Brown Snake (#2) 1/14,000ths of an ounce of this venom is enough to kill a man. Be very wary of this snake as it is very aggressive and been known to chase people. Since 1980 it is believed to be responsible for over 20 deaths.
3) Taipan (#4) the danger of this snake was brought to Australia's attention when the 1st Taipan was being captured for anti-venom preparations and bit the scientist capturing the snake. That scientist died from the bite.
-
4) Tiger Snake (#5) this snake has a fatality rate of between 50% and 60%. Generally paralysis sets in within half an hour, death within 24 hours.
5) Beaked Sea Snake (#6) this snake is an international contender living everywhere from the Middle East to Queensland.
7) Death Adder (#10) quite a short and stubby snake generally between 50cm and 90cm. Its mean temper makes me think of it as the Cartman of the deadly snakes.
So basically in the top 10 deadly (most venomous) snakes in the world Australia has 7 living here.

Ants... Yes even the ants...
Jack Jumper Ants have a deadly sub species living in Tasmania. 2-3% of the population will have an allergic reaction of which half will require hospitalization some of which were fatal.
Oh and yes they do jump.....

CROCODILE DUNDEE 😝

We also have those bloody koala bears ... and the kookaburras, don't get me started on them 😖

Rips.....
Sure they occur everywhere but here we lose a dozen people a year to rips. Harold Holt, Prime Minister of Australia disappeared whilst swimming on December 19, 1967. whilst many conspiracies abound the most likely cause is a rip.
For those who don't know what a rip is, a rip is a current dragging the water back out to sea that the waves have pushed up onto beaches. Rip currents are responsible for 89% of surf life saving rescues each year. A strong rip can drag a swimmer miles out to sea, the result being unless they are a very strong swimmer that they get exhausted and drown. This, along with the plethora of pools in backyards is why many parents have their children in swimming classes from before they can walk. If this thread does not scare you from coming out here, watch "Bondi Rescue" for real life examples of rips and rescues, be warned though, 1 rescue a couple of years ago was not successful and the person drowned.

Blue Ringed Octopus.
So you want to see the ocean but plan on avoiding the rips by taking a dip in the rockpools exposed by the tides. Here lives the blue ringed octopus. A small and well camouflaged octopus up to about 10cm. This is the only poisonous member of the octopus family. 1 milligram of Toxin can kill a man and there is no known antidote. The only way to survive is immediate and continuous CPR for 24 hours as your body processes and evicts the toxin.

Size
Out of 242 countries Australia ranks 236 for number of people per square kilometer. Now taking into consideration 98% of the population live on the coast......
That's right one of the most deadly things that can occur in the outback is a broken down vehicle. It is standard practice to inform the police whenever traveling between remote destinations so if your vehicle breaks down and you don't check in they know to send out a search party. Further the last thing you should do is leave your vehicle. Mere exposure to Australia's harsh environment can kill and finding 1 man in 100's of square kilometers is a needle in a haystack situation. Just last year Jason Richards body was found after his car broke down whilst driving from Darwin to South Australia.

My son (2 years old) was almost bitten by a red back last week. It came in on a broom (made by a company called "REDBACK" no bullshit 😂) that we use to sweep the kitchen. He lasted about 7 secs before I stood on his head with my thongs.!!!

I love this thread!!! Everything said in here is true!!! But it's the reason I love the joint and would never leave!!

Yes even the plants will kill you.
60+% of toxic plants in Australia are native to the country. I few not to eat include:
The seeds of Abrus precatorius are highly toxic, but the seed coat is very hard and seeds swallowed intact pass through the gut without any ill effect. Immature seeds or those with a cracked seed coat will release toxin. One seed contains enough toxin to kill an adult human. There is severe damage to the stomach and intestines and other body systems.
Death Cap Mushrooms live up to their name. The Australian Government Department of Environment and Water Resources confirms that Death Cap Mushrooms are “Deadly!”. The poison in one mushroom cap is enough to kill an adult. They provide a detailed description and further images of the mushrooms

All parts of the Yellow Oleander plant are toxic if eaten, particularly the fruit and seeds. This species has been responsible for the deaths of several children. Symptoms may include a burning sensation in the mouth, vomiting, diarrhoea, dizziness and a slow or irregular heartbeat. The sap may be an irritant and cause dermatitis or blistering.

That doesn't make austalia deadly at all. I'm from California, more people die from car accidents and homicides than any of these combined. I wouldn't be worried about The snakes, I mean #2 has killed 20 in 32 years lol really more people die doing jumping jacks.
Personally I want to visit australia, possibly for a relocation. I know it's a hard country to gain citizenship though so who knows. But you should be talking about how awesome that place is. 😃 -
The only reason these animals and insects have not claimed more lives is because of anti venom ;) mark my words, if you are bitten in a remote area and can not get help in a specified time. You will die.

I heard Drop-bears were probably the most lethal species of bear on the planet. The fact they use surprise in their attack from above gives you almost no chance of surviving the vicious mauling, often resulting in a painful and messy death.Don't forget the Drop-Bears.
