Clarification on Water Turfs
Forums › General Discussion › Clarification on Water Turfs-
Recently we've observed a growing trend of players placing turfs over water. Some do this to turf hop over bodies of water, others do it just for fun.
While we've been willing to let this slide in the past, some players have begun using this exploit to their advantage - hopping to remote islands where other players can't reach them, or moving into cities they otherwise were not located in.
Effective Monday, June 7th at midnight PDT (0700 Monday GMT), placing turf over water is going to be classified as a cheat. Exploiting this cheat is going to be punishable by a ban and possible account reset. Any turf existing over water at that time will be deleted and its teardown value returned to the owner.
-
Here's why we're ending water turf hopping:
- it's an exploit, using a flaw in the Google geocoder to place turf where you shouldn't. Preventing turf placement in nonsensical areas is one of the reasons the geocoder is there in the first place.
- it leads to unfair advantages: players with lots of cash can migrate to areas that other player's can't reach.
- it's often confused with GPS spoofing, and fosters a climate that appears to allow GPS spoofing. Players think we're letting cheaters off the hook since they can't build their own turf over water, while other players can.
-
😱😱😱😱😱😱
-
Regarding players who've already benefitted from this exploit: any player with turf over water at the effective date will have that turf deleted. None of their existing turf on land will be deleted, EXCEPT for turf in an otherwise-inaccessible location (i.e. an island not accessible to the general public, or an island with no roads on it). While it would be nice to turn back the clocks and remove any turfs gained as a result of this exploit, it's not practically possible.

So, if I were on a boat, in the middle of a lake, I couldn't build there?

Damn... I was planning on Turf Hopping across the Atlantic ocean after I got enough money... 😥

Nice try Nixion 0.0

Does this include rivers?

You can't anyway, unless you're building turf on the nearby shore. So, if I were on a boat, in the middle of a lake, I couldn't build there?

how about interstates nick. is this considered an exploit. i have no problem taking water turf away but i would still like to be able to migrate some. i also have a few turf just barely outside road areas. os this bad?

May I inquire about turf placed on roads that are not normally accesible? For example, highways, and even some smaller secondary roads that do not normally allow placement? What about parks, airports, and other random spots on land that do not normally qualify? Will these turf be removed as well?
-
Curious what happens to turfs placed near a road but happen to land in water. It was always possible to place turfs near streets in water without the mulit-tap method.

Some of my turf were placed completely on land but unavoidably once fully upgraded was partly in water

I still find it interesting that this is considered cheating
but having more than one account isn't. The advantages listed are similar to those with mule accouts. The key here is that anyone and everyone can place turf on water and waterhop, but not everyone has access to multiple devices for multiple accounts to generate higher hourly income. Something to consider.

This change is more targeting players who hop turf to build in areas that otherwise can't be reached by most players. If you get on a boat and build turf on a barely-populated island in the Pacific, more power to you. You could also build turf inside an army base or airport even if you're not technically allowed in, since your turf creation radius reaches inside their area. These cases aren't targeted by this change.
As an aside, it's a little disappointing that the geocoder doesn't consider Interstates/Motorways as roads, but in most cases you can just build on a road nearby anyway.

Ok I have a question. One of my turfs, Lake in McDonough, GA is built on the water of a small pond that I didn't have to turf-tap to get to. It was located close to a road, and was in my green zone. Does it get deleted?

If the geocoder maps them as being on a street then it's fine (if a little weird). Usually if you build more than a few feet offshore it'll catch that and not count it as a street, preventing you from building.Curious what happens to turfs placed near a road but happen to land in water. so when hopping if i am to understand we should consider how far from roads we are and how remote the area is. for example i am planning a hop from socal to norcal very soon. i take it that cutting through the mountains should probably avoided

Bahh, Norway is hard to get around because all the water. DAMN THE EXPLOITERS!
-
What about boat passages?? Do those count? Also same question about the rivier. Do rivers count?

This is fine, some smaller bodies of water are counted as "OK" by the geocoder. It's the turf built in the larger lakes, rivers, and oceans that will be deleted.Ok I have a question. Boat passages aren't roads, so no. Whether rivers count depends on their size - the geocoder may let players build on smaller rivers but not larger ones. What about boat passages?? Do those count? Also same question about the rivier. Do rivers count?

Um, hello, long time player, first time poster here, I was just wondering, my name is Nemo, I'm an officer in the Atlantis navy, I am a great fan of tw, but I fear this new ruling may affect all my turfs due to my persistent, sub aqua life style & I'm fairly sure my fellow syndicate member don ariel and papa Neptune may also be a little put out, as their terra firma outings are fairly limited, could you make exceptions for some of your dedicated, marine based thugs? 🐳

Well if it wasn't allowed wouldn't all these accounts be banned by now? And why not ban all brothers/sisters/family members/roomates/visiting relatives/pets of all Turf Wars account holders, just in case they might log onto each other's accounts? I hope this resolves the issue for you.nick wrote:
