Lmao, however you shouldve started with "This is Turf Wars, not..."This is a mafia game, not Floating Casino Tycoon.
That would've been the first one of "those" that didn't make me cringe. -

you do realise that the mob frequently used floating casinos during it's heyday right Nick? The point of restricting turfs from being created over water is it makes no sense to have turf on water. This is a mafia game, not Floating Casino Tycoon.
Others including me have put that in suggestions as a form of turf upgrade, or turf type: Gambling boat. Please consider it, Nick.

Nick. I understand the need to end water turf. All I want is reliable land travel. If nothing else give us a rare loot item to travel a few hundred miles or so. Nothing like a plane ticket just short distances. A mob wouldn't be quite this confined to one area would it?
-
Most mob action does tend to be localized.

Nick, is the issue just with players who keep turfs on water? Cuz most of the objections i'm seeing against the new rule is that it will limit expansion to new areas. Is it possible to have turfs that would be temporary on water (ie. Just to turf hop)? Make it so they expire after a short period of time or something like that? This will take care of your issue with people hiding turfs on water but still allow people who are isolated a feasible yet expensive option to expand?

Great idea RPL... 🚕

I live on mercer ISLAND how am I sopose to get off?

These kind of rules are not good for the game IMO. It's something that surely a newbie will do without knowing. So in order to inforce the rule one needs to know if the player 'knew' what they were doing was wrong.
I can see some noob placing a turf on water a month from now and the players with their heads up their asses willbe like 'didn't u see the post a month ago? (two weeks b4 u started playing). Nick needs make an archieve of official rules or simply learn to deal with the problems that manifest themselves from dealing with a 3rd party.

The turf analogy is just that, an analogy. It's not what drives the game. At least in my experience what hooks people is a feeling of protectiveness over their real life "turfs" but that fades as the game mechanics become better understood. Then it becomes much more social then anything and the openness of the game is in large part behind the character the game has and that people end up staying for. Water building is a feature, not a bug, IMO.

I think everyone is tired of cheaters and exploiters using shortcuts to rise to the top. Many of the most Legendary Turf Wars players were on top because they were good without having to exploit. If you think you can't play the game without exploiting know flaws, all I can say is thanks for playing!.
The focus on cheating and stopping it or the perception of it becomes such a bitter experience that new players may not ever get to experience the openness that created and fostered the big players and legends in the first place. New players will always think people are playing unfairly. It will always be something.
The thanks for playing is a rather a bitter goodbye. Personally I wouldn't stop playing because of the new rule but as all my turfs will be going away it's hard not to feel like I'm being shown the door.

Mercer Island? Taking a freakin' bus.
I live on island with 2200 miles of water in all directions, and you don't hear me bitching.
When I started this game, I was alone on this island for months. And there is still only really five active players within my 1000 mile attack range, and two of them are level 19 or below.

@ the Devil: The intent of the game was to make it a gps based game. Turf, by very difinition is land based.
I doubt that turf hopping across oceans was never really intended, and it is only due to Google's fuckups or shutdown of their geocoders that it can even occur.
If you can hop anywhere, or build anywhere, what's the point of the GPS basis? That's what sets this game apart from all the others.
it totally fucks me and everybody else here, but I'll get over it. And life will go on whether I ever get off this damned island or not.

Nick, since u say hopping is a part of the game is there any plan to eventually give us our 84 influence button?
Btw.. Love the change!

this rule is targeting exactly the kind of thing you're doing on the Farallons. You took advantage in a flaw in the system to place turfs where no one ... can go. Because of this you can be the capo of [SF] without even having a turf in the actual city. Explain how this is fair.
It's not a flaw that the Farallons are in SF. They're officially and correctly considered inside San Francisco. The fact that I'm capo is incidental although correct. I worked hard to have enough money to build out there. I paid into the game to have a turf limit that would allow me to be capo w/o taking turfs. I spent a lot of time and effort tap tap tapping all the way out there. There was nothing easy or short cut about it. There was no advantage gained that others could not have gained with similar effort and investment.
We're being handicapped for players who are simply not willing to do this. They are the one's who are getting the unfair advantage.

I assumed the point of the game was to have fun. But you can't build anywhere. You can build anywhere you are and you can hop anywhere from there. This is not the same as building anywhere. The effort it takes is part of the victory and it is obviously, as you know, a lot of effort.
-
I get what your saying. But as stated, a certain amount of realism is trying to be retained in the game. Hence the rule on only building near streets and roads.
The mob would not build a series of turfs across the ocean. They would fly, or boat to where they wanted to go and build there.
Something needs to be instituted to allow overseas travel, but turf-hopping is not the answer.
Honestly, I don't see how taking advantage of geocoder outages is any different than gps spoofing. IMO they should be classified in the same way.
Both methods circumvent (intended) game mechanics.
-
I think GOW has made an important point ... To
make the game fun ... Nick I believe every body will happy to see other than wt they cannot do ... U give them sth new to do :) -
But Charlie Nick said that he didn't like the way interstates were treated yet insinuated to me that using tap tap on those would also be bad. I don't understand that.
-
Building turf is just the only game mechanic we have for moving. A mob might in fact take over a shipping lane, island or water way and do in real life. So the realism isn't at all effected.
I guess I see the turfs as representing a range of influence not the streets themselves.
-
I don't take advantage if geocoder outages. That's not how I do it. I just tap a lot.
And it's different then GPS spoifing because you can do it without modifing the game, data or your phone. Anyone in the game can do it.

What is sad and I enjoy this game as much as the next player. But this is an exploit, fine! But the mention that this is a GPS based game which is suppose to allow one to physically be there b4 building & yet now we are hearing about a loot plane ticket? Sorry but how is it any different from "this exploit"? A GPS based game requires one to physically be there b4 being able to plant 1 turf.

Vegas started as a desert... 🚕

My only issue is that our turfs will be taken away. Restricting everyone is fine and fair, even if I don't like it which I don't, it is fair by definition. Taking my turfs away is not fair. I earned those turf. That's what I'd like nick to consider.
-
Nick you have never let me down in the past. You always come up with something. Just give us some way to reliably travel on land. Come up with somethin new and fresh. but for a top mobster to only stretch 300 miles is embarasing

As I said before, much time, $ & effort has been put into this game by many players & the way I see it is if "this exploit" is used, then it makes no difference to having a plane ticket. Since a special loot will only be available to "a select random" few whilst it appears that more ppl are 'abusing' this. Should not the concept of GPS Turf wars be based on GPS? I find it ironic. This is a game designed by the Nick & it's hard to please everyone so people, one just puts their $ where it should be. It's a game & enjoy it. In life all things come & go. Have a good weekend turfers!
