Here's another way of putting it: the states each have a right to decide whether a law is constitutional or not, and people who disagree with abortion can move to a state where it is illegal. But if the central government makes a law either way about abortion, then someone who disagrees with the law would have to leave the country to avoid it.No one is forcing doctors to preform abortions and constitutional issues are not the jurisdiction of the states.
You cannot decide which issues are religious in nature. Your religion does not make decisions for me.

I don't think the federal government should make ANY laws concerning abortion, because even legalizing it would be taking sides in a religious debate.
Since when is abortion a religious debate? By that logic cancer is also a religious issue.

Zuntamed, what a very valid point. If you think it's blasphemy or whatever then when your significant other gets pregnant you can have a baby. Not everyone is under your same beliefs and can do what they want.

Ok, maybe my opinions are a bit crazy. It just seems to me that when the government makes laws about things like this, they make it harder to really feel free to have my own opinion. I suppose abortion needs to be legal, everywhere, and I don't mind living where it is, but having to go so far to be somewhere else makes me feel trapped.

I an easily turn this back in you. How dare Christianity be federally protected. It should be a decision from state to state on whether to allow Christians to be here. If it were only allowed in certain states I could move to another state to be away from Christians. My freedoms are violated because to escape them I'd have to leave the country!

And the dog analogy wouldn't bug me. Many beautiful cultures like the Cheyenne consumed dog. To allow others to do so would in no way violate my or anyone else's rights. Now if the law said they could kidnap your dog and consume it, then it's different, it becomes a violation of your rights

I disagree. I feel that a right is an absolute, something you will always have, as long as you live, regardless of anything. For example, the right to own property: you will always have the right to own something, even if all you have left is your body. No one can take that away from you without killing you. But there are times when a woman cannot have an abortion, so it can't fall in the same category of basic rights. It's a basic human right. I usually lean toward the states but in this case it should be protected by the federal government

What I'm saying Catholics are being hypocritical and need to keep religion and government separated

Im for abortion slug. And calling and labeling people nuts is not supporting your argument in any way. I mine as well label you as arrogant. If you at all have read what i posted besides you correcting me on the silly egg issue. I concluded its not my decision to make on abortion. Nor will I have a instituion enforce my view. I can express if feel abrtion is wrong, something you don't like to hear.

The religious right did it with gay marriage. Wouldn't allow it because it is counter to their beliefs. Prostitution is the same way. And the same is tried with abortion. Too many Christians out there want to rule us in a totalitarian theocracy. Not cool and I won't tolerate such views

Then some Catholics need to shh due to not being married..then having kids. I'm talking about that 25% that gets really pissed. Lol

We need a drastic seperation of church and state. You know it's illegal in the state of Texas for an atheist to be in state legislature? I mean cmon!
