Alternative energy

What are your views on it? I am totally against it. My states economy depends on coal and these hippies from brazil think they can come up here and tell us what we can and can't do with our land.
-
Well, I'm no hippie but I sure love clean energy. Like here in Texas we are now the country's largest provider of wind energy, and I like it. Why polute when you don't have to?
-
What the hell are you on about?
Your not against solar power or wind turbines right? -

Hmm. I like ya cj... But I'm gonna have to facepalm this one... West Virginia's economy isn't as important as researching and converting to clean, efficient, free, and renewable energy that will progress mankind as a whole. What are your views on it? I believe the government, or at least states and/or localities should require solar panels on residential houses and commercial and industrial buildings. Just my opinion.

Well if ruining one states economy will boost the rest, I think it's worth it. Not to mention how coal and fossil fuels are polluting the air, and even though the dates economy will stay nice it will ruin the environment.Superyan wrote:

No it isn't. Can't tell if joking...Obviously alternative energy is necessary. Nuclear is the best option.

What about solar, wind or hydroelectric?
-
I understand WV is very coal dependent. That is why, along with clean energy, job development and training needs to be included. Would you be against it if guys could get out of the mines and be trained to assemble and repair wind turbines and solar paneling?
Parts of China are so polluted they're downright toxic, with cancer and other diseases off the charts. That might be parts of the US if we don't be proactive with converting to clean energy. Not to mention coal & oil are both finite resources anyway.

I know that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few but it's hard for me to keep an open mind when it comes to alternate energy. I've made a good living thanks to the coal industry, it's all I know. You would have to live here to understand.

Have you ever looked into Geothermal energy harnessing? It's an emerging technology. It involves placing turbines on and withing geothermal heat vents that naturally have formed around the globe. Figures suggest it will produce enormous energy potential.💚ǤƦєɛɲՊɑɳҳ℘ℎıƖҽ wrote:

Sounds fair. -
Geothermal power is cost effective, reliable, sustainable, and environmentally friendly,[4] but has historically been limited to areas near tectonic plate boundaries. Recent technological advances have dramatically expanded the range and size of viable resources, especially for applications such as home heating, opening a potential for widespread exploitation. Geothermal wells release greenhouse gases trapped deep within the earth, but these emissions are much lower per energy unit than those of fossil fuels. As a result, geothermal power has the potential to help mitigate global warming if widely deployed in place of fossil fuels.
The Earth's geothermal resources are theoretically more than adequate to supply humanity's energy needs, but only a very small fraction may be profitably exploited. Drilling and exploration for deep resources is very expensive.[citation needed] Forecasts for the future of geothermal power depend on assumptions about technology, energy prices, subsidies, and interest rates. -
I don't live a wealthy life. I make about 80 thousand a year.
-
Actually less than that now because I'm laid off
-
Seriously to not explore alternative energy only to sustain a economy that survives on a fossil fuel is short sighted and will have no future. So basically you would put a band aid on a gunshot because it works right now but later in you are still going to bleed out.
-
I don't know how you can be against such an idea. We will run out of coal and oil eventually. It's not some lie that hippies made up. There are facts behind it. Why wouldnt you want to live by a freeway and be able to walk outside and not feel like you are smoking? Even if you don't believe in global warming it still has many other pros. If you do, like me, then it's just another good thing!

Major plates
Depending on how they are defined, there are usually seven or eight "major" plates:
African Plate
Antarctic Plate
Indo-Australian Plate, sometimes subdivided into:
Indian Plate
Australian Plate
Eurasian Plate
North American Plate
South American Plate
Pacific Plate
Minor plates
There are dozens of smaller plates, the seven largest of which are:
Arabian Plate
Caribbean Plate
Juan de Fuca Plate
Cocos Plate
Nazca Plate
Philippine Sea Plate
Scotia Plate
