Vegetarian/Vegan.
How do you all feel about the topic?
I, personally, feel that being either one of these and being it properly (not saying your vegetarian and only eating French fries and pizza) is beneficial for your health. I've read a lot and done a lot of research and feel it is truly better. Ever since I started I feel better also. I only eat fish because I fucking love sushi ๐ I don't care about the abusing animal crap. No, they are not able to feel as complex emotions like humans and really don't know whats going on. If you all want to eat it I don't care.

Humans are omnivorus by nature. To go against that can only be deliterious.
It takes great effort to replace meat in the diet and I'm not certain that the full nutrient/protein/etc range will ever be able to be replaced by the vegan diet especially.
I do eat meat, tho I make sure I eat meat that was raised ethically. even tho the emotional range of 'lower' animals is less than that ours, I still prefer them to have had a pleasant life before becoming my food -
There's no way to prove they don't feel like we do.. I know for a fact my dogs do feel exactly the same as humans.. Infact i studied child development and they r at the same cognitive and emotional development level as a 4 year old non verbal child. But in the interest of not starting an argument, it's ok to kill animals for food regardless. It's nature! It's the food chain! Meat tastes good!
-
Oh and eat free range! It's not ok to torture living animals!
-
God put anamals on the earth to be eaten- I respect that. Mmmmmmmmm tasty bacon is what

It's quite well known we're omnivorous. We can after all eat meat and plants, not to mention our canine(mistermed? Fangs sound better) teeth. It's hard to need a source for that. The reason it's hard to replace protein in the vegan diet is because they refuse eating non meat protein alternatives Ie Eggsslugboy wrote:

Explain our fangs then if they're not for eating meat. Surely if animals were not "put here for us to eat" our fangs wouldn't be for consumption of human flesh.โณสโฒสแนฃฯฎแธญโฆรช (โณโโฌ) wrote:

But probably various forms of biology. Science is good. -
It's been proven that animal (meat) protein damages the body (not to mention the hormones, antibiotics, and animal diseases within their flesh that we in turn take by eating it. And plants have plenty of protein. Beans and broccoli have especially large quantities of protein (that don't cause any harm like animal protein does). And yes, our bodies can process meat. This is an evolutionary trait to help humans survive back before we really advanced. We are smarter now than our caveman selves and know we don't need meat. We used to because finding vegetables and fruits were hard to come by, but now it's possible to be healthier.

Plants may have protein, but not all the same proteins. Plus the trace elements etc are different.
Pretty much everything damages the body. Oxygen itself is horrific, a potent free radical that the body has to defend itself from. But I wouldn't recommend cutting it from your diet.
Being vegetarian doesn't defacto make you healthier. One of my sisters was a strict and creative veggy. And infertile. After a dr recommended a diet change back to meat, 5 months later. With child.
Evolution 'designed' us to have meat in our diet. Removing it will have consequences.
Plus we may have more knowledge than our cro magnon predecessors, but we are not cleverer. This is a common misconception. -
I was an executive chef at a resto in NYC and to the stars for 4 years, mostly because I liked the challenge of making things taste like things without using stuff that tastes like stuff. My kiddo ๐ and decided he didn't want to eat "flesh" and just stopped eating meat three years ago. lisa simpson style. I don't tell him the miso soup he loves has hondashi in it, but other than that, I try to respect his decision.
that being said, as a "real" chef, I find vegetarians annoying at best. it seems ignorant to want to de-evolve, not to mention lavish as fuck to decide to give up food when so much of the global population is starving. much like anorexia being largely a middle and upper class phenomenon, you don't see impoverished people choosing to deny themselves food, when food itself is a daily impossibility.
-
likewise, veganism is a socially acceptable eating disorder. and I get even angrier at fat vegans, because you know they couldn't possibly be that overweight on such a low calorie diet. They're just sedentary, attention seeking fuckholes who cheat on their diets.
-
actually, most recently, vegetables have been the source of salmonella and other damaging contaminants/food-borne illness. generally due to poor farming and irrigation practices, perpetuated largely by vegetarians and their demands as consumers. the need to consume out of season produce, that was grown in an entirely different hemisphere. to make up for the locally farmed animals that would complete the protein in your diet. if you would just stick it in your face.
so argue you just are scared of animals or stupid and I'll respect that. but don't make it about health benefits or responsibile consumption.
your winter tomato is worse than my ribeye.
-
and now I'm even more irritated by you calling yourself a vegetarian in the same paragraph as saying you love sushi.
yes, ๐ฃ is fucking fantastic. but it's no vegetable. you're no vegetarian. and fuck the term pescatarian. why can't you just be one of those, "I just prefer to eat fish." people. rather than a proselytizer. ffs.
-
You guys are all talking about the typical veg that has NO idea what they are doing! the only substance that you need from a pill is your vitamin B12 because it rarely accumulates within plants and omega threes.
And yes, even sonething as simple as beans and rice make the "perfect" protein formation. So does quinoa. And the main reason animal protein is worse is what is extra in the animals.
For example, about 80% of cows carry the bovine leukemia virus due to the way they are handled. It is passed down to humans when eating meat. A study showed that women with breast cancer had large concentrations of this virus stored within the breast tissue compared to a healthy women. Hmmm. What a coincidence.
-
If there weren't extra hormones, medications, and diseases in our heavily farmed animals, I would say they are good for you, but sadly they are not.
Also, your "farm range" food is no different. Only thing different is te food they are given. They are even processed in the same factory so cross contamination rates are high. Overpriced meat of you ask me.
And mama tek, the reason so many crops contain salmonella is because of runoff from factory farming productions, which is 90-95% of the meat in America. and yes, farming is shitty for Earth. Both are bad.
-
If you weren't supposed to eat meat then why does it taste so good?
The figures work out that it costs more land to raise livestock than to grow crops. So it's not unreasonable to assume that if we all went vegi then there would be more food available for the rest of the population... -
I've had to change my diet a lot these last few months. As a result I have found myself eating a lot less meat. In particular: beef, chicken and lamb etc... I do however eat a lot more fish than I ever did before.
As a result of this my life has become a lot more bearable. I feel, for want of a better explanation... Fresher!! ๐

Altho yes, a shift away from meat with every meal. And making the most of each animal, plus not raising animals on prime land. Would increase overall food availability.ฦฎโใ สใใ โโณโฎใโ wrote:

Do you know what's funny bout vegetarians - they never give a thought to the damage they do to plants! Do plants feel pain? No, because evolution of pain receptors in a sessile organism that has no means to escape would not be advantageous. Pain and the associated psychological suffering are mechanisms to steer animals from present and future harm. Do plants suffer physiologically as you harvest their organs while they are still alive, unable to move, trying desperately to sire offspring? Well yes, yes they do.
