I guess my post wasn't aimed at you directly but at everyone in this thread that is against it. I am not for any of it either, but I think it's immoral to get angry about an issue that has been around for years just because you are now being affected by it.Hahahaha. None of this global policeing is acceptable. I didn't say us trampling on foreign people is right. But now that tyranny is comeing home near you.

Vote fluke!Democracy in the modern world is nothing like that in the Greek city-states, where it originated. Basically WE are all too lazy to be constantly engaged with political decisions, so we allow others to take on that mantle and represent us.
Just think: how often do you REALLY get to vote on something that matters in your life? And then compare that to the number of decisions made, on your behalf but without your direct involvement, that actually affect your way of life.
seriously though, well said 👏 -

Its a fine balancing act of freedom and security that in my (non Govt persona) opinion has already been crossed. ✊
I agree. We have sacrificed too much freedom in exchange for 'security for our way of life' - which is a great example of Orwellian Newspeak and Doublethink - by sacrificing those freedoms, our way of life is already gone, and we are a step closer to having a military junto impose rule over us.
How different are we now, compared to 3rd world dictatorships, albeit with a veneer of democracy to assign legitimacy to the chosen few?

I'm glad I'm not the only seeing this. I could eerily see each state turning ion it's own coutry to individualize our national debt, meaning that the debt will become so big, the nationwide goverment can't afford to pay itself off, so it collapses. You Americans could possibly give rise to your very own Julius Ceaser soon. Look at the similarities with the late roman republic.😳

And generally the people who do try to get involved get hushed. So we really have no choice. Look at the occupy movement: the goverment tried to shut them down, and a lot of people left. This is vecause people will do almost anything for an authority figure. So we as Americans can't do anything without haven the idea hushed, or completely forgotten.Democracy in the modern world is nothing like that in the Greek city-states, where it originated. So now the USA's founders are now rolling there graves. Brilliant. Seems like the US gets more corrupt as time goes on. Dept, War, Economic recession, and now our freedoms are getting taken away. Of course all the US news stations won't bother to tell us about all the sh*t that's going down, and now more then half of lazy a** America doesn't know what's going on. Does this remind anyone else of James Patterson's "Witch and Wizard"? Or better yet, Pendragon's 2nd Earth after Saint Dane started winning? It's scary when fantasy starts to become reality. 2012 conspiracy theorists must be going insane.

How do you get influence? You have a voice representing a group e.g. lobbyist, interested parties, cub scout group, whatever. A social club with lots of member is as important as any group, so if we (the people) speak with a single voice, we will be heard. It is making sure the specific politician (or their staff) understand (clearly) where you are coming from, who you represent (more importantly, how many) and what it is you care about -> then they are more likely to listen and pay attention.
Stand up, get engage and make your self and your opinions count!

...about the authorization for indefinite military detention of US citizens in the defense funding bill in the US Senate. There was an attempt yesterday to remove this ridiculous language from the bill (the Udall amendment) that unfortunately failed.
Basically it's saying that if the US military suspects you're a terrorist, then they can detain you indefinitely without trial – no lawyer, no judge, no jury.
“But nick, those nasty terrorists deserve it because they hate America, and if you're not a terrorist you have nothing to fear!” Right. Remember how warrants used to be required for wiretapping American citizens, then how they established a secret count (FISA) to allow warrantless wiretapping, and how today you can be wiretapped by the Feds whenever they please?
You don't have to be a black helicopter conspiracy theorist to see the slippery babies r fubbslope here.
