That's terrible. More and more rights are getting taken away from a country that's supposed to be free. Thanks for letting us know this Nick

Good stuff. Remind the senators who pays their wages. Ultimately they answer to 'us' (citizens) yet we can't hold them to account when they let us down.

Applause nick. An awesome stand

We sold ourselves to us at end of WWII. We are effectively your 51st State! It could be worse though we may be tied to France in some sort of Union.😏Well it is a bill in the US senate. Although Tony Blair did surrender your foreign policy to us back in 2003...

Thanks for heads up, Nick. Ya read about this and the over-reaction in the streets and I think the slippery slope is undeniable and needs to be checked wherever possible.

actually I think the British Parliament recindered the British nation to the Americans in the 1920's.........remember the lease lend agreement? We're still having fun about it even now!!!

Right on Nick. We are always on the edge of a police state. Any country is. We have to push these things back best we can!

Good grief! Have we actually found a topic that we can all agree on?

This is how a 1984 esque society starts.....

I have another policy you can call your congressman about it's called I believe SOPA or the protect ip act basically with this bill the united states can censer part of the Internet for intelligence properties, this includes YouTube and Facebook, for anything that is copy righted. Look it up to get it explained further but it's a very broadly worded bill that we should fight against

I would gladly give up my phone call and email privacy to help catch terrorists in my country.
Oh wait, I live in China.

I call my senators regularly for years. Still do in hopes someone will listen. Never mattered. They just say whatever it takes to get your vote and then do whatever it takes to get lobbyist money. Ironically, lobbyist give money to both sides and don't care who wins as long as their interests are met. What does this do? Take away 'rights'. Nothing new. Way it has always been.
On the flip side, most people in this country would take away any security from the person next to them for a 'tax break' even if the security would help them as well. This is ironic as it is the same as our leaders do. Sounds familiar right?
Look at the supreme court ruling to view corporations as individuals. I think that may have been the low of the year.
We even go to war for corporate interests. Also, the corporations that screw us turn around and get subsidies. Meanwhile, the money that was supposed to keep people in homes is used otherwise.
-
I could go on and on. Not worth it. Bottom line is there are people getting paid to screw you every day. Occassionally, some idealist will want to do some good. Whenever we see this type we shoot him down.
I read roughly 15 papers or so a month. Been doing that about 20 years. I can tell you that this ain't the first.
I will also tell you that that piece was thrown in there by someone who wants to crap up something for some other politician. Instead of making decent bills they like to throw in bs so stuff goes through more voting and gets crappier.
Politics is a sewer. We are all involved wether or not we understand what is actually happening. Which makes things even worse.
Even so, I venture to say I would live nowhere else unless it was uncrowded, had good views, 60-80 most years, with a nice beach. No sharks. No earthquakes. No crazies with guns. It also needs a decent store or garden. Libraries are nice. Until I find this paradise I am stuck here. Hey, seven out of ten ain't bad.

My thoughts on congress these days......

The terrorists we're supposed to be fighting share a common goal of destroying America. If we allow our basic rights to be taken away in the name of fighting our enemies, then Osama bin-laden has succeeded.
-
"This time, the amendment they tried to sneak through with a voice vote was one that would have allowed the government to indefinitely detain American citizens – even if they were tried and found not guilty – until Congress declared an end to the war on terror.
It doesn't take a lot of imagination to picture how furious the Founders would be that any American, especially one who has been found innocent of the charges, could be held indefinitely by officials sworn to uphold the Constitution."
-
Thanks to quick work by Senator Paul and his staff, he was on the floor to object to their attempt to slide this language through.
Instead, Senator Paul called for a roll call vote that saw the amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act defeated by a vote of 41-59.
Although this fight isn't over, and there's still other language in the Act to allow for indefinite detention that must be removed, Senator Paul beat back this amendment by being vigilant in defense of freedom."
Those 41 that voted for this should be charged with treason!!!!

I know this may sound crazy. But have you guys heard of the FEMA camps all over the country built to keep people in not out? And the millions of body bag orders recently? I don't know but it is something worth knowing....

Not a surprise that senators Graham and McCain (my state) support this. It would allow them to lock people up and go on witch hunts based on hearsay and questionable evidence.
