You can't use that in a discussion. Yes, if laws on possession had not been passed back then UK would be no different to USA. But the fact stands, UK has the lowest firearm crime rate in the world, for a reason.

In all fairness the police were very much outnumbered. A group of 20 riot police facing several mobs in groups of 40-50, seriously, what were they meant to do? Yes, there were things they could have used like rubber bullets but let's not forget the excuse used to spark this rioting. If police started shooting at youths from the start it would have become far worse, more areas outside London would have rioted. And to bring in an extra 10k officers is no easy task, democratic safety has to be considered. The police are damned if they do, damned if they don't. It's naive comments like this that annoy me. The world doesn't organise at the click of a finger. Look at last night, nothing compared to Monday, damage limitation. You can't make police the scapegoat in all this.

There are lesson to be learnt and lessons that should have been learnt from previous riots like in Brixton. These are underlying issues that need to be questioned. I say cut the benefits of all the youngster who are prosecuted, give them community service and slap a hefty fine on the parents. People need to learn the hard way now.

Absolute rubbish. 68% of Americas murders are gun related, murders are 5.7% higher, 41% robberies against uk 5%. Rape is 3 times higher. Drunk driving. Drugs. Domestic violence. All these things are in no way comparable to uk crime rate b. Last year there were in the region of 800 murder incidents in uk compares to USA at 17,000.VADAN wrote:

how many mass shootings in schools, gyms and parks do they have compared to u? An I don't mean gang related. I mean the pshycopaths that shoot up a school. At least outside of the US they have to go through some sort of effort to get the gun. Either liscencing, registering. Buying legaly. Takes time. Or mixing with some shady characters and risk getting fucked up the ass hole by some biker named Joe.Paranoidcitizen wrote:

The uk government needs to fly in a plane load of LAPD in riot gear with all their tricks of the trade to stomp down this bullshit. The London bobbies obviously don't know wtf they are doing.

In principal, the army would support the police. It just comes down to strength in numbers. They should have been called in Monday and police reserves should have been arranged Sunday.Paddy_b wrote:

Problem having them taken from me, and your cops. That's where the rub lies. -

umm la after Rodney king...My point is it'd never have happened in america because eventually the citizens would've taken care of the problem. The threat of that eventuality would've kept things more contained. This is similar to the la riots but went further. You guys should be asking why
Guns don't solve riots... But to imply all Americans "like" guns proves he's as "thick as pig shit"

Paranoid, you mean to say, when I have kids, I'll expect the government to teach them values, morals, respect and social awareness? What the hell are parents for? I know, let's just ditch the parents and make parliament a day care centre. You have some very naive views of the world my friend.
-
Paranoidcitizen is obviously a kid. The government isn't all corrupt. Anyways, you can't blame the police. The police are also citizens. They have a right to hide in their homes and protect their families too. The police standing up to the riots are either brave, patriotic, smart, or caring for their families. All of which you can't blame them for being.

I hear in Israel EVERYONE has a gun, that must not work out well?
-
I'll keep it simple, I'm an American, an can honestly say America has screwed itself, and there's not much it can do about it.
-
American standards for education are low. China's standards makes us look like COMPLETE S***HEADS!!!! America tries, you gotta give us that, but we don't try correctly sometimes.
