I hate paying $10 on a pack of hench, should I quit turfing?
-
U think that's bad. Try £7.30 and 2 prices rise totaling 70p within 12 months. I have no doubt that in the next budget I'll end up paying £8 or more for a 20 box.

I don't remember creating this thread. I don't even smoke!

In Oklahoma, you can buy cartons of non-namebrand smokes for under $28.00. I buy them and give packs of cigs to my employees who smoke as rewards and/or incentives.

Ugh, did anyone else click on this thinking, "What the hell!? I didn't make this thread!"

I don't live in New York, I don't smoke. Therefore, I don't care. Don't like the price? Quit smoking and buy three packs of gum for $3. Lasts longer and has the opposite effect on your mouth.

Double or triple them. They help motivate you to quit and stop killing people with second hand smoke. YES for not killing people!!!

I'm a lifetime non smoker, but I feel if people want to smoke they should be able to, the facts about possible health problems are there, as a smoke as with the consumption of alcohol you made the choice because you are an adult.
Unfortunately I would agree that taxing them is also a good thing, but the TAX should go toward the health system so that some good come from the bad. -

Would you have the government dictate what is best for you and tell you how to live your life? In most civilised countries we are educated and grow up informed. Yes people make poor choices but they are in the minority, would you want to loose your freedom of choice for the few?krissharm wrote:

Everyone saying just quit enjoy the er. The point is for someone to be taxed that ridiculously over any single item is exactly why we split from brittain in the first place. That said give e cigs a try. I did. Costs me $2.22 a packs worth and no tax going this route.

For the government to put huge taxes in an addicting item is a form of stealing plain and simple. Make them legal and taxed normal like everything else or make them illegal. As is it's just a government scam to make more $$$

It's pointless me getting into the pros and cons of the nhs with u but what I have read before is that the total tax revenue for ciggies could pay the nhs bill twice over.
If that is the case then I should directly fund it and thank you all smokers -
I just checked the exchange rate for US. In ireland it costs over 12 dollars a 20 box. Stupid prices!
-
And why should smokers be the ones to pay for nhs? What obligation do they have to pay more toward it than anyone else?
-
IMO punitive taxes of any kind are a violation of freedom. You wouldn't be punished by the government for using a legal product
