I only got as far as page 2 before my disgust at the pro-gun lobby became too much. If gun control was much tighter then the proliferation of both legal and illegal firearms would decrease.
In such a case I believe it would take less than a decade for gun crime levels to drop so much that there was no longer a strong argument for police forces to routinely carry firearms.
What exactly do you to keep these specialised killing devices for anyway?

No, it doesn't make me gangsta. It makes me a law abiding citizen who has the necessary permits to carry a firearm. And if you saw me you would never guess that I am carrying a firearm. It has protected me in the past and it may do so again in the future. That is all it's there for. And your pathetic brand of name calling doesn't rile me up. The US glorifies guns and war- it always has done. It has a self-righteous attitude and ignorance to the rest of the world that quite frankly scares the shit out of me. It ignores it's responsibilities to the civilised society outside the US. Guns are not cool. Guns are designed to kill people.

Insecurities as a person??? Seriously? Do see the headlines of the papers and the lead stories to every news cast in the world?? People are being robbed, abused or murdered on an hourly basis these days and my ownership of a gun ensures that my chances of surviving one of those events goes way up. And if you paid even a little bit of attention to the posts here you would see that all of us gun owners are indeed responsible and seek to educate young people about ownership and that is not irresponsible.

You take an exceedingly rare occurrence (say, 354,670 rapes in a population of 307,006,550; discount the fact that 75% of the rapes are spouses, significant others, relatives and other people you know, not random break ins) to justify anything, much less to "pit it into perspective" is flabbergasting.

I'm not sure what point of mine you are responding to.
I was specifically commenting on the logic of the previous argument that says it's essentially a no brainer to have a gun because of some entirely rare and unlikely event.
To follow that logic, you'd have to stop showering because there's a 1 in 2,500 chance of slipping and dieing, etc etc etc
