To those who voted for Trump
Forums › General Discussion › To those who voted for Trump-
If you’d like me to step up the “facts” and the verbiage,
While U.S. tariffs on European steel and aluminum imposed in 2018 under Trump were framed as a response to national security concerns, they reignited debates about longstanding trade imbalances. Europe retaliated with tariffs on U.S. goods like bourbon and motorcycles, but the underlying grievance from the U.S. was a persistent trade deficit $155.8 billion in goods with the EU in 2023, according to Eurostat. Critics argue that Europe’s lower tariffs on U.S. services (where the U.S. has a surplus) don’t offset restrictions on goods like cars (10% EU tariff vs. 2.5% U.S. tariff), perpetuating an uneven deal.
A recurring theme in U.S. critiques is the trade deficit with Europe, which has grown over time. While the U.S. enjoys a surplus in services ($104 billion in 2023 per Eurostat), the goods deficit has fueled claims of unfairness, especially in sectors like automotive and agriculture where Europe maintains higher barriers.
Europe taking advantage.

You are parroting stuff from Trump that is untrue. “Fair”?And that is just one example. The United States and its people want FAIR deals. If this causes turbulence or “omg we’re gonna start a trade war” (never will happen) for the time being, then so be it. We voted for this, we want this. I, incredibly so, have no doubts so far which is better than I was expecting.
I repeat: Trump claims that a tariff is a tax on a foreign country. That is 100% FALSE.Tariffs are fees on imported goods - paid by the importer. That means US businesses paying more for incoming goods. That fee is passed on to the consumer.
And that’s it. This is textbook stuff. End of story.
Tariffs were the cause of the great depression. They have nothing to do with equalizing an injustice against the U.S.

Trump’s not “passing costs back to you”—he’s fighting a war against a rigged system where Europe’s been laughing all the way to the bank while we eat their trade deficits. You wanna talk costs? How about the cost of millions of American jobs gutted by cheap foreign imports because limp-wristed politicians wouldn’t grow a pair? Tariffs level the damn playing field—Europe wants to play hardball with their CAP and digital taxes, then they can kiss their free ride goodbye. We’ll make our own stuff, bring back factories, and tell the EU to shove it. It’s better for the long term.
Not to mention all of the business returning their manufacturing to the USA as well as investing billions lol.

Also Marshall aid is over so if you can give evidence of America “giving handouts” to Europe in the present day that would be appreciated. Also yeah trump might start a trade war, just speculation on my part though, neither of us knows for sure since trump likes to do 180s on his plans

hand·out
/ˈhandˌout/
noun
noun: handout; plural noun: handouts; noun: hand-out; plural noun: hand-outs
1.
something given free to a person or organization.I used the term hand out because it’s an unfair deals where they benefit more than we do. - a stupid decision by the leadership of the country. A more accurate way of using handout would be what we provide to people who come here illegally or the money we send to Israel and Ukraine.

You have yet to use any historical examples to back up your statements.
All we’ve gotten is a rambling ready-made script that you didn’t even write.
Frightening actually.

There’s plenty to look up if you want the history of tariffs. For the ultimate test on history: Please refer to the Great Depression of which tariffs played a major part.
The whole premise of tariffs, rectifying some “injustice” by other nations… Is patently false. He has done nothing to fix an imaginary problem.
It’s literally like he’s asking the fire department to spray down a house that isn’t on fire.
“There now! I put that fire out!” Uhhh. Not really Donnie.
So… I’m still looking for this fire that Donnie is talking about if anybody could explain it to me. This is horrible injustice that needs to be rectified.
I’m sure WWI had nothing to do with the Great Depression after governments worldwide spent unprecedented amounts and inflation was out of control

That is the problem with short term thinkers and government- why solve problems when you have blank checks to write & others can deal with the fallout long after you are gone.Trump‘s other BS argument: jobs will come back to America?
Really? How long will it take for companies to set up shop again?
You know… Build a bunch of factories here and there to get production rolling?
Oh… But then there’s a little snag: The American worker will not work for less than $100 a month.
CEOs definitely won’t be getting those hundred million dollar bonuses. And they will certainly have a lot of explaining to do to their investors.
But hey… Maybe the whole point of crashing the economy is so that Americans will work for less than $100 a month?
Who the fudge knows with this 6x bankruptcy clown?

Soooo…. Wouldn’t it make sense to.. you know like… make it better and incentivize them to stay here in the USA? Which is what Trump has been saying? Which is why they’re moving manufacturing here and investing billions to… you know what, you’re a lost cause buddy lol.

Capitalist companies are globalists because the cheapest labor and resources can be had from depressed countries. Why do anything in America where we just bitch about free healthcare and humane working conditions, and protecting our natural resources.. Do it in Brazil, screw ‘em! Right Dems?
Or maybe we could find some way to level the playing field.. Like tax the fuck out of sweat shop inputs to our capitalist industry! Good idea!

Meanwhile: Don Junior is putting out an ad for something called the “2025 Birch Gold Info Kit”
(It’s tackier than that knife chopper ad. I kid you not.)
He’s declaring that you better start buying gold because of the inevitable economic disaster.
Seriously? The president’s son is peddling gold because he’s saying a disaster is coming?
You just can’t make this stuff up. It’s worse than The Jerry Springer show

To be fair, Don Junior gets way more coke than Hunter.
If I were you, before buying that gold, you might wanna scratch it to make sure it’s not lead.
The Trump‘s have been known to stiff a lot of people in their past. Especially the common man - the ones they talk about that they think are so dumb that we vote for them anyway?
I’m sure you’re aware of that right? And let’s not forget about that fifth Avenue statement. If anything, that’s the only truth he ever spoke.
But come on. Enough with the deflection. One economic and historical fact on how tariffs will benefit the US

Uhhh Simcoe?
The tariffs on steel failed. It raised consumer prices across the board in many sectors.
Same for those tariffs on the Chinese goods. It just rose prices for US consumers.
And those Japanese tariffs long ago?
In spite of all the trade restrictions, the bilateral trade deficit with Japan did not go away.
Not a single Job was created. Not a single benefit. Got anything else?
