I understand the act is about billing. I was trying to make a different point but explained it badly and I can’t quite figure out how to say what I want right now. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.Mystery wrote:
So it’s for Medicare patients, not everyone, who receive inpatient treatment. It says nothing about requiring the patients to die.
It’s healthcare making the decision to provide the complex data tracking and therapeutic responses for Covid, regardless of the underlying condition. They will respect advance directives, but will not change the coding. Death or recovery- it will be billed as Covid treatment as well as billing for any other treatment provided (not covered by COVID) for the underlying health condition. It’s a bit more complicated than ‘‘twas or twasnt”.

antibody test data suggests 50 to 80x as many people have the coronavirus as have tested positive for it. This would make the coronavirus death rate far lower than the flu

4/15: 32,443
4/16: 34,617***
4/17: 37,154*26,047 was the number before NYC added 3,778 additional deaths.**
29,825**”New York City today has reported 3,778 additional deaths that have occurred since March 11 and have been classified as "probable," defined as follows: “decedent [...] had no known positive laboratory test for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) but the death certificate lists as a cause of death “COVID-19” or an equivalent.”
-
*** “Note on Michigan death data: MDHHS staff has put in place, a weekly review death certificate data maintained in Vital Records reporting systems. As a part of this process, records that identify COVID-19 infection as a contributing factor to death are compared against all laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Michigan Disease Surveillance System (MDSS). If a death certificate is matched to a confirmed COVID-19 case and that record in the MDSS does not indicate a death, the MDSS record is updated to indicate the death and the appropriate local health department is notified. These matched deaths are then included with mortality information posted to the Michigan Coronavirus website. As a result of this week’s assessment, today’s data includes 65 additional deaths that have been identified through this methodology.”
-
“Deaths lag infections. The thousands of people with Covid-19 who died this week in the United States were most likely infected as far back as a month ago.”

But when the pandemic is over and CDC has certified the deaths and analyzed the data I don’t believe that they will be inflated. (Obviously this is just my opinion.)
There may be some attributed to Covid that weren’t Covid, but there are also some that medical examiners believe are Covid but they aren’t ruling as such (due to insufficient tests, etc.). Another example of underreporting given is “someone dying from causes, such as a heart attack or stroke, triggered by the infection — with no one ever suspecting or testing for the disease.”
-
Almost Every state: “lets had thousands of deaths to the count because well... they probably, maybe, could have, possibly had the corona”
We can’t even use these useless stats anymore.

647,000 Americans die from heart disease each year.
Bet this will go down this year because all the stress vanished a month ago

Read #4:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/covidview/purpose-methods.html
There are some provisional numbers but it’s too soon for the info you want. From the CDC:
“Data during this period are incomplete because of the lag in time between when the death occurred and when the death certificate is completed, submitted to NCHS and processed for reporting purposes. This delay can range from 1 week to 8 weeks or more, depending on the jurisdiction, age, and cause of death.”https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/COVID19/index.htm
