@Viking, if you send people back to work, would you have them get tested daily or something? A negative test only means you don’t have it right then. You could walk down the hall, get exposed, and have it 10 minutes later. Maybe businesses could require a test before you enter, then give you another one before you leave. While people are at work, no one goes in or out. The lockdown could be problematic for some though.
The test results aren't immediate, the most reliable tests take two or three days. But someone who is infected is not contagious for at least a week, so testing people on Monday and Friday should work.

They aren't testing us for antibodies because we aren't sure that it proves immunity. But I had to be tested for the virus before I could start seeing patients in person in my office. Fortunately the test came back negative. All that means is that I didnt have COVID-19 a few days ago.@BigAl! Has a point. I noted that the numbers I presented had a selection bias. While health care workers are more likely to be exposed, I’d like to think we are more fastidiously protecting ourselves. ( I’ve been washing my hands like I have OCD).
I got my COVID-19 specific antibody test back today- so far I’m negative. -

Probably appears like anarchy because restrictions are put in place by state governors and local officials, rather than the president. Some states didnt close their businesses. Some did, but are opening earlier than others.𝖈𝖆𝖗𝖑𝖎𝖓𝖌🏴 wrote:

To be honest, I’m actually surprised Marshall law hasn’t been enacted already. I’m also surprised that Georgia, among other places, have started opening up businesses again. The gas stations are allowed to have 45-72 people in them (depending on size and only from what I’ve personally seen on door signs). I’m more concerned now than at the beginning. All the good the shelter in place order did to slow covid (for those that actually stayed home) has been tossed out the window by reopening so soon.𝔐𝔞𝔯𝔰𝔥𝔞𝔩 𝔩𝔞𝔴 5 𝔴𝔢𝔢𝔨𝔰 𝔰𝔱𝔞𝔶 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔣𝔲𝔠𝔨 𝔥𝔬𝔪𝔢. Whoa, that’s not true at all! They don’t know how long after exposure someone becomes contagious. They do know that “the incubation period (the time from exposure to development of symptoms) of SARS-CoV-2 ranges from 2–14 days.” That’s straight from the CDC. They also know that some people are contagious before showing symptoms (assuming they show symptoms at all). “Viral shedding may antedate symptoms by 1–2 days.”Mystery wrote:

Idk how long it takes from exposure to Covid until you start shedding the virus. I imagine in my testing twice a day scenario there would be a lot more false negatives early on, but you could get some lucky hits.

“In the US, the most common test for the COVID-19 virus looks for viral RNA in a sample taken with a swab from a person's nose or throat. Tests results may come back in as little as 15–45 minutes for some of the newer on-site tests; with other tests you may wait three to four days for results.
If a test result comes back positive, it is almost certain that the person is infected.
A negative test result is less definite. An infected person could get a so-called "false negative" test result if the swab missed the virus, for example, or because of an inadequacy of the test itself. We also don't yet know at what point during the course of illness a test becomes positive.” -
Both the saliva and swab tests work by detecting genetic material from the coronavirus. Both tests are very specific, meaning that a positive test almost always means that the person is infected with the virus. However, both tests can be negative, even if a person is proven later to be infected (known as a false negative). This is especially true for people who carry the virus but have no symptoms.
Some early reports suggest that the saliva test may have fewer false negatives than the swab test.https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions/if-youve-been-exposed-to-the-coronavirus
So you wouldn’t have to wait 2-3 days for the results.

Of course the numbers of people testing positive are going up. You’re testing 5x more people than you were a month ago. If you look at the % of people testing positive it has dropped drastically over the last month. Georgia and Florida are models for what the rest of the country should be doingYOU wrote:

Same source as above, thought this was interesting.
From May 7th
“Some people are starting to have a blood test to look for antibodies to the COVID-19 virus. Because the blood test for antibodies doesn't become positive until after an infected person improves, it is not useful as a diagnostic test at this time.Your body takes at least five to 10 days after you have acquired the infection to develop antibodies to this virus. For this reason, serologic tests are not sensitive enough to accurately diagnose an active COVID-19 infection, even in people with symptoms.
However, serologic tests can help identify anyone who has recovered from coronavirus. This may include people who were not initially identified as having COVID-19 because they had no symptoms, had mild symptoms, chose not to get tested, had a false-negative test, or could not get tested for any reason.” -
Scientists have confirmed that people can infect their pet cats with Covid and cats can infect other cats. It’s unknown if cats can infect people because they can’t ethically create a trial to do that.

Just passed 85k confirmed covid deaths today. That is 10x the confirmed flu deaths for the 2018-2019 season. Stay safe everyone. Just heard that my niece caught the virus during a trip to Spain recently (she teaches in France at moment). She recovered thankfully but was coughing up blood and still hears crackles when she breathes. Said it took her three weeks of barely moving out of bed to kick the virus.

Saw instant social distancing last night. Was taking a Redbox movie back and saw a group of people with dogs on leashes all clustered around the Redbox unit. Chatting away without masks. I put my mask on and walked towards them. They gave me room to drop off my movie (Redbox is touchless now btw). As I was walking away one old guy said “yeah, my brother has it but I never get sick...”. I glanced back and everyone was backing away from him so fast it would have been funny if it wasn’t so sad. Need to check and see if the Tesla cameras saved all that. Grocery stores...maybe 50% of customers and employees don’t wear masks. Going to be a nasty next few months in Florida.

As Mystery correctly pointed out to me the Dutch CDC updated incubation time from the previous 7-14 to 2-14 days so alas, testing twice a week won't work. Testing each day might, but someone would need to crunch the numbers to be sure.

And a good influenza can also send people to the ICU.
