I was thinking of christians following their zombie christ where the bible tells slaves to be good slaves 😂
Need to know one Hebrew word: ‘ebed (also transliterated as ‘eved). It is commonly translated 'slave'.The King James Version of the Bible had two occurrences of the word slave: once in each Testament. The New King James Version in the twentieth century had 46 occurences. There has been a general increase over time in the use of the word 'slave' in translations of the Bible into various languages.
‘ebed is translated as 'slave' in some cases and 'servant' in others. Leviticus 25:42 in the English RSV translation has slave once and servant once, but both translate the same word ‘ebed.
'Servant' and 'slave' used to overlap much more in meaning, but now have different meanings. Servants are no longer seen as slaves.
The meaning of the word ‘ebed is not inherently negative, but relates to work. The word identifies

I think americans tried that same trick “we just wont call them slaves” lol im sure that made the owners, im sorry... employers feel better but how bout you ask the slaves , i mean “servants” how they feel :)

Actually, I’m not going to post the whole article. I got tired of copying and pasting. Bottom line your translation of a particular word that translates over English is wrong and has a different connotation from back then. It means the same thing in the Hebrew to call someone a servant or slave. Also back then it was understood that everyone is subservient to someone. Meaning that all the subjects were subservient to the king, the king is subservient to God. Everyone was considered a servant/slave in that particular Hebrew word. Your post was insulting because it implies that Christians believe slavery is good or that Christians believe in the Bible that approves slavery in the modern-day term.
Believe me, I’ve heard all the atheist arguments. A good friend of mine is one. Usually I just roll my eyes. If you want to start a separate discussion I’ll be happy to school you on Bible theology.

I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that not all slave owners were Christians. Just like I can’t say all atheists are abrasive, you can’t say all slaveowners where Christians. Just because Christians justified it back then in their way doesn’t mean that those that werent Christians didn’t justify it in there a particular form or fashion.I think americans tried that same trick “we just wont call them slaves” lol im sure that made the owners, im sorry... employers feel better but how bout you ask the slaves , i mean “servants” how they feel :)

How did i get thrown in with atheist? This you are making some assumptions. Please school me lol i would love and welcome the discussion. Hit me up on pal.

So let me ask, is the deflection to “Christianity being ok with slavery” because you were losing the political argument? Or is it just because you enjoy throwing barbs at Christians? Honest question?
-
Not sure what Pal is but I’d be happy to have a discussion with you. The reason why you get thrown in with atheist is a bad assumption on my part. That particular argument I usually hear from atheists. My apologies on that assumption. Are you in atheist?

How was i losing??? I do have serious views if you would like to discuss them on pal. On the gd forum its mostly bs thrown out.

As great as a wall on the border sounds it’s not going to do anything. Trump just wants to look good saying he created all these jobs for people to build this stupid wall. It’s no different then paying for college and medical insurance off your taxes bc all of our tax money is going to go to waste in this stupid wall. If he would show this much interest towards other stuff affecting America and Invest in something long term bc people are going to be left jobless after; hypothetically speaking, if this wall gets built.

Let trump build the wall. I'm from the UK and even I know they move through tunnels lol

I fail to see how the first amendment says anything about income tax, which didn’t even exist until the early 1900s. The fact that a religion may be non-profit is a separate issue. I say “may”, because, well, you know. You can have a nonprofit yoga studio. You would have to jump through some hoops but you could do it. then you wouldn’t pay taxes, just like a church. However the same rules apply.
Religion is treated differently by the IRS than non-profits.
Do you agree that the church of Scientology should be tax exempt?

The church is the richest federation world wide.

I worked at the Scientology place in London lol. Not a nice place

Dear LeWolfe, As for the theist vs. non-theist discussion, this was settled here long ago.
Maybe you missed it.
It was democratically determined after long, public discussions that God is simply a construct of human societal evolution. The concept of the supernatural father figure, while extremely useful for controlling and motivating the masses, is not factually real.
I understand if you missed the thousands of pages of discussion here on the topic, but it has in-fact been settled.

...And build the wall, please.

You’re referring to the Abrahamic religions. When we get into the Indric way of describing reality, (particularly Advaita Vedanta) “god” becomes less “the father figure puppet master” and more of an impersonal and egoless back drop to reality. In this view, our suffering arises from universal laws of cause and effect. Advaita is now merging with occidental quantum theory. In this respect, it’s not settled. 370 people seeking asylum breached the steel border wall outside of Yuma yesterday. They dug under the wall, adding to preexisting tunnels.

Lol for not being an atheist? I know the arguments on both sides. I’m no more an atheist than i am a christian. It will take more than being called a pussy to sway me ;). However my personal beliefs are always in flux usually my own influence and reflection. I like to hear or read others thoughts and arguments on religion, life, the universe etc... not to be convinced or converted but sometimes it can spark a new idea in a seperate area i had not considered before. I’m sure my personal beliefs will be changing or evolving until the day i die. So will be my relationship with the universe or god. Or at least i hope they will be. The day i give up trying to understand i’ll welcome death and non existence.
