Can we break it down by state? Which cities/states have the highest firearm homicide rates per capita? Would you guess that the places with higher per capita gun ownership are the places where the murder rate is highest?
Or is the murder rate the highest in places that tightly control firearms, or even ban them all together?
Let it be said that the legality of such weapon ownership is a factor too.

I’ve always followed the American gun debate, both sides’ point of views intrigue me.
In Ireland, we too had a ‘threat of the king of England coming through our door’, to which he did on many occassions over the last 800 years.
In 1922, when the state was founded and we kicked the king out, using guns of course, we set about removing guns from society. Now everyone knows a part of our wee island was a war zone until 1996 but the rest of the country has strict gun laws. Even our police force is unarmed.
Guns are available to hunters, farmers, shooting sports, etc but very hard to buy.Now like everywhere, we too have gun violence. Organised crime and gangster have plenty of fire power but that is a tiny section of society. They tend only to kill themselves. You get carjacked in Dublin, its probably unarmed. Yeah u could kick their ass.
To counteract gun crime there are special elite armed police units who literally operate in their faces and have a good success rate. -
This doesnt eradicate gun deaths but does have a good prevention and detection rate.
Gangsters still kill each other, it makes national headlines because the gangsters are internationally based in places like Dubai and Spain and run their criminal empires from there.
There is no public outcry over scum killing scum because of the tiny element of society that chooses to live life like that.
You live by the sword, you die by the sword. -
I’d like to bring up burglary rates. Stick with me. Look please at the countries on this list:

It’s inverse to private gun ownership rates. And what you don’t see here is that in America, burglary tends to happen when the victims aren’t home. In other first world countries, burglaries are more often “hot”, or when the victim is home. This means that these burglaries are more often violent or lethal. The entire reason for this is armed citizens. The strong can’t prey on the weak when the weak is packing heat.
When we talk about how many lives guns take, we should also try to account for how many lives guns save. It’s hard to account for, but I’ve seen estimates by the CDC upwards of 3 million per year. Seems high to me, but I think it completely offsets innocent people killed by guns for a net win.

Back when I was a youngin' (damn, I'm old) it wasn't uncommon during deer season to have trucks in the school parking lot with rifles in the gun holder. The school even let you bring them in, and check them in the office if you worried someone might steal it. We didn't shoot each other. We started giving participation trophies, and these kids don't know how to handle failure, and snap. Now there are more restrictions, and more gun crime. Restrictions do not solve issues. People just want something to blame, so let's blame the gun. It gives them the warm fuzzies.

Guns are dangerous. You require extensive training to be safe. Guns are powerful. You can kill an animal, including a human, a hundred yards away and not be a marksman. Guns designed for military-like battles are incredibly deadly.
