They are getting a 2.5 ROI on the lights, basically that means they pay for themselves in 2.5 years. It makes sense financially for then to do it now. It didn't 4 or 5 years ago.
-
Right, skip right over cfl and go straight to led. We can easily and cheaply cut our lighting costs in half. Similar tech can drastically lower heating and transportation as well. I don't understand why people are opposed. It seems like no-brainier to me.
-
Hell, you could run those LEDs on solar. Every god damn walmart in the country could switch. It's not like they don't have the money.

I'm keeping my incandescent. I like the burned smell they give off.

But, honestly, I'm on solar, I've made my so-called contribution. I'm not going to stop driving or any of that stuff. My whole thing is don't shove shit down people's throats. Don't MAKE people conserve if it hurts them financially. EDUCATE, don't force. That's why I have a problem with requiring insurance. My friend is on minimum wage and is single with 3 baby girls. His paycheck WAS effected because of the deductions. He used to make 2,000 a month, he's down to 1,600. Which is a lot with children. He lost 4800 dollars of flexible pay.

We have made huge strides in crop yields over the last 70 years thanks to GMO, mechanization, plastics, shipping infrastructure, etc.
The end result: More people, so we need more food. (No change). And now we absolutely depend on our mild climate and fossil fuels to maintain these production levels, and our economies have relied on it being cheap and abundant.
How many will starve as scarce fuels and poor climate impacts the abundance (and therefore cost) of food?
Republicans: "Who cares? I like my Hummer and my 100 watt light bulbs. So I reduce the starvation by 3 or 4 people temporarily... It's statistically insignificant."
If we run out of oil today, 2/3 of the world will starve to death as a direct result.
Every little bit helps. Fight climate change, and reduce oil consumption.
In the mean time, stop making kids.
Otherwise, prepare for economic turmoil and death while you enjoy that Dodge Durango.

i agree. the problems with over population, diminishing natural resources, food supply can't be fixed easily or at all. Climate change may not be able to be "fixed" either but maybe altered or slowed down a little. it might be an unstoppable snowball. we want to "save" everyone and everyone has the same rights to life, we try to keep people around longer and save everyone even when the quality of life is next to nothing. well that takes control away from natural selection and puts it in our hands. we upset the balance of nature with our politics and religions. at the same time lets limit scientific research on cloning and space exploration. sure we may dry up all the oil and cut all the trees and fish the seas until they are emptyHow to adapt? Starve off the excess people. (Or reproductive control, whatever.)

He never went to the doctor. Up until 9 months ago, he was a lawyer, pretty successful. He encountered a rather messy case in which he was disbarred for problems with evidence. His wife walked out with most of his money and left him with 1 year old triplets. He went a few months with no medical care. So far, they've been lucky. The triplets have been healthy and he has only been ill a few times.
And, yes, I do have a problem with paying for other people's health care. I believe that people should donate to a fund that does so. As opposed to making middle and upper class Americans pay for it. -
but hey... lets help make it worse by helping every one stay around longer instead of dying off like they are suppose to. the sick and the poor and the social outcast and even the hard criminals, everyone is equal right... lets keep them all. no natural selection because we know better. We've created a world where the weak can thrive. we want to cure everything keep people around longer, save every life. we want to control our own destiny yet we lack the knowledge and respect for balance. we deserve to lose this planet.

Would you offer yourself if they asked for volunteers to die? Realistically? Killing people off is not going to be a good solution. So we should let Stephen hawking just die? One of the greatest scientific minds of our day? We shouldn't try to help him survive? I'm not saying that we should all commit suicide. just stop trying to play god we obviously suck at it. hawking is great , not taking that away from him. but the science is there. if not him it would be someone else. and i'm not saying that we shouldn't keep some people around, if they can contribute and provide for themselves, not depending on everyone else for that. he does contribute to society and help further our knowledge. but how many hawkings is there? i'm talking about society wanting to keep everyone thinking they could be a hawking.

Empathy and compassion are genetic traits that make us stronger, not weaker. Your ideas lead to a society of sociopaths that wouldn't last a generation.

don't get me wrong. I don't really care whether or not we lose the planet, kill all the trees and animals in the great quest of humanity :) but i think there are secrets yet to be revealed in life so before we make a species extinct or get rid of all the trees, we should be able to replace them first. we should also be aggressively looking for a new planet to populate. genetic cataloging everything and making space and cloning our primary focus.
-
More food. No we need to work better globally that's all.
3 quarters of the worlds food gets thrown away. -

not secrets like the gov keeping anything from us... i'm sure they dont. they are an open book and keep us well informed and up to date with everything. :)

Yer I'm sure they do lol.
Was reading an article on , get ready for this !! Head transplants lol they can actually do a head transplant but can't knit the spinal cord together .
That's mad, would you think like the guy with the head lol if so does that tell us there's only the brain no soul ?? Deep shit lol -

False. 1/3 is waste. This is due to many reasons. In wealthy countries, 1/3 is thrown away as excess. In developing countries, 1/3 is lost to poor storage, distribution, packaging problems, etc.More food. No we need to work better globally that's all.
3 quarters of the worlds food gets thrown away.If you make food too expensive, those that can't afford it are "wasting" it.
If you make fossil fuels go away and add a drought or two, we will lose 90%.
Are you suggesting we can afford the global population explosion if we would just clean our plates at the dinner table?
