Again, you didn't read what I wrote. I didn't have to read it a few times because I was unsure if it was rape - I had to find the passage that didn't have parts cut out....was it rape?? Yes it was but even Mystery had to read a few times.
That can't be good for a young boy to be reading. He might think forcing himself on a young girl is the done thing. No girl needs to no what rape is its common sense , if she didn't consent it was rape.
When a boy pins a girls hands down and takes her by force it's rape. he shouldn't ever think it's the done thing.
So apparently you're a girl, since you claim to know what girls think is common sense. A girl doesn't need to be taught what rape it because it's common sense? Really? At what age does she develop this "common sense?"

Apparently you think boys have no common sense, since you say that reading that would make them them think that was the norm. Wow, these kids are so supposedly so easily influenced by 1 book. I can only imagine what they think after watching tv & being an the internet. Yet you think no discussion about these subjects is needed. What a terrible world we would live in if that were true.

I assume they would discuss all the sensitive subjects brought up, otherwise why would they read the book?Mystery wrote:
That's my point from the beginning. You assume they will discuss the rape scene??Ok, I finally found the whole passage. Apparently the first one I read cut some bits out. It was rape, although it purposefully tries to make it as gray as possible - one minute she's pulling him closer, then in the middle she says wait. I'd imagine they have students read it to discuss it & learn that's not ok - NOT to say that's the norm. I would think especially horny teenage boys might need to think about this stuff "ahead of time," as I doubt they are thinking much in the moment. Girls could also learn a lot about situations they put themselves in, confusing signals, etc. Sorry, but people aren't born knowing that stuff. ✂️

Sorry I'm not sure what your saying ?
Are you saying a female wouldn't no if she had been raped or if she had consented sex. If so I think that's the craziest statement in this thread.
About a young guy reading that .
My opinion is he would be thinking did that guy just rape her or was it rough sex.
Maybe get the impression it was rough sex. We are talking children (virgins) some of them. But that's just my opinion and like I stated at the beginning it as no place in a school.
-
It's "know" not "no."
At first the girl didn't consent or not consent. Then she pulled him closer which seemed to indicate consent. Then she said, "wait," which was withdrawing her consent. Girls have to learn it's ok to withdraw consent; that's it's ok for them to change their minds. No one is born with that information.
If the guy reading that doesn't know if it's rape or rough sex, then clearly it's something that needs to be discussed.
These are teenagers, not children. Yes, there is a difference.
I'd rather kids learn it at school than not learn it at all.

^ I had to read that when I was 12. I still find the cruelty in it awful. I much prefer a good gory horror movie. I find those less disturbing. (I saw my first horror movie at age 5 & loved it.)

I didn't read "To Kill A Mockingbird" and run out and try and lynch a guy.

Another thing is, I haven't read this book, but I assume that rape would be committed by a villain in a story. Nobody imitates villain behavior, they do what they think is right.

Erm I disagree I think books, films, even violent console games can have an impact on a child. -
Well, this probably wouldn't happen in Utah; with the prominence of religion in people's lives, particularly mormons. But if it did occur, the backlash would be a lot greater. I mean, the schools have to send home a permission form for the student to watch a movie rated PG-13, regardless of the severity of the content.

Ah, but impact has only been shown in children who have a preexisting mental condition. A University, Stanford, I believe, conducted a study. In said study, they gave two groups of 100 teenagers a video game. One was Myst, a nonviolent video game, the other was Doom 3, an ultra-violent video game. The teenagers were then subjected to a stressful situation, such as someone, (a trained researcher) demanding money from them in a threatening manner. Some responded violently, meaning attempted bodily harm against the "mugger" or they ran. They found no difference between the two groups in reactions.

Ok, so I messed that up, but I'm pretty sure you get what I'm saying.

There's plenty of research to support global warming.

Just as many top notch scientists as there is supporting it are on the opposing side. It ridiculous to believe we're adversely affecting the climate. The earths climate is always changing, such as the ice age. Plus since global warming we've had some of our coldest winters ever and fewer hurricanes than we've had in forever and that's almost the exact opposite if what global warming is supposed to be doing lol. There's plenty of research to support global warming.

Lol!! No, that's why they had to change the term to "global climate change." 😂 They're always coming up with something. In the 70's it was global cooling. Derp derp you must be smarter than the majority of the science community! Please enlighten us on how you have arrived at such a conclusion!?
Nope just an ignorant troll!
Do you not see how dangerous your easily swayed beliefs are?
The debate is what we do about it not wether it exists. Denying it is denying the chance to have an open discussion about the issues humanity faces. -

Still waiting for all the coal burning power plants, gas guzzling cars and drilling rigs that the dinosaurs used to end the ice age. Couldn't have possibly been WEATHER!!!

Yea mayhem history will show you that the climate changes all on its own. It change long before the burning of fossil fuels and it's going to continues to change. Are you aware that the issues the supposed global warming is supposed to be causing don't seem to be what's actually happening. I'd love to hear how this last winter is the cause of global WARMING. My beliefs aren't easily swayed mayhem and seeing as how this isn't our first run in you should be aware of that lol. I'm basing my beliefs off of my own observations not just what the government feeds me. You don't have to buy into it, especially not of what the experts predicted is the opposite of what's happening in reality.

I won't argue the man-made climate change point, but eventually we will run out of oil and gas and coal. Always nice to have a backup plan. I also like clean air and water.
