Yes you are exactly right. The government has many ways that they can track us, and they do. I just thought of something that the government might be doing, and I wanted to put it out there. The thought of the government "spying" on me might have bothered me when I was younger. I'm too old & boring to be bothered by the thought of it now.

I'm not bothered by the spying because I was somewhat conditioned to expect that from governments. I can see how Western Europeans would want to light a torch under the US's a$$ though. They're not quite as laissez-faire about it.
The Snowden case is not another WikiLeaks - he's not blowing the cover on people, he is blowing the cover on the system. I admire his courage.
Now as for these imperialist f###s who decided to bring down the Bolivian president's plane to search for Snowden, effectively holding him hostage for 13 hours, never mind violating the Geneva Convention in the process - this is I am thoroughly disgusted by.

Apparently there's a government surveillance camera positioned in front of George Orwell's former home.

Oops, I was wrong. There's actually 32 CCTV cams within 200 yards of Orwell's former residence. Britain does more spying on its citizens than communist China.Apparently there's a government surveillance camera positioned in front of George Orwell's former home.

I am glad that I live in a country that cares enough to try to protect its citizens. I don't mind them spying cuz I'm not doing anything, but there are groups out there pretending to be regular citizens as they prepare terrorist acts. If it were not for gov't watchdogs then my family would be less safe. And in light of worldwide terrorism, if they weren't watching and something happened to my kids or wife, I would be mad as f$&@ and accuse the gov't of not being there to protect its citizens.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

You think I'm not paying for the government to gather intel to prevent terrorist attacks from hitting me in the supermarket? Wtf is the point of the government? Prevent ppl from spitting on the sidewalk and marrying their sister?
-
So basically, you blame the government for 9/11?
Ya know, I don't quite understand this...
It's like blaming the police for the murder of someone or blaming the firemen for your house burning now. -

It's like blaming the police for the murder of someone or blaming the firemen for your house burning now.Your examples have nothing to do with the conversation. Terrorist attacks are not spur of the moment decisions, they require careful planning and funding. Attacks are linked to ideological groups that the government spends a ridiculous amount of time and money tracking. So yes, 9/11 is an example of the failure of CIA operatives not even having an inkling that an event that big was coming down the pike.
-
Meh.
I don't really consider it the governments fault. They have so much to do anyway, you can't blame them for missing it sometimes.
I think it's more important on how they handle the situation afterwards. -

I think it's more important on how they handle the situation afterwards.Usually people who say "meh" are not asked for opinions for a reason.
Now as for "They have so much to do anyway." Sum up the cost of the attacks, add to it the cost of the two wars that followed, and then tack on the recession that has ensued from the budget deficit caused by US maniacal borrowing to fund the all encompassing "war on terror" - and THEN tell me they got better s### to do.
-
How rude...
I never said they had better shit to do. I claimed they have a lot to do.
Manage budget, foreign affairs ect
Of course they are going to miss the odd one and I do not think the government are to blame when they miss one.
The complications that go behind tracking and watching out for the possibility of terrorist attack must be incredibly difficult, I for one wouldn't know where to start.
So pat on the back if they do manage to prevent one, but certainly they do not deserve to be blamed when one slips through. Now, I'd prefer if you attempted not to twist my words, treat me with moderate politeness.
Also, the word "meh" to me was used in the context to indicates that you made a good point but I don't agree with it. -

But 911 was not planned in the USA, so to say that it was the govt fault is incorrect, you think ANY country in the Middle East will let the US wire tap their citizens?🔰Superyan🔰 wrote:

To say 9/11 is "one that slipped through" makes it sound like it was a hiccup. It effectively changed the world we lived in.

And here I was thinking the CIA gets trained to be polite and ask for permission to wiretap in a foreign country on foreign citizens. Those terrorists also probably planned 9/11 in some foreign language that the US government doesn't understand, so that absolves them of responsibility of knowing what was being planned.gunstreet grrl wrote:

It's like reading the conspiracy boards 2-4 years ago. Except you were considered a rookie if you just found out the NSA was spying on you back then.
I honestly thought more people already knew about this? I mean did you think people were just making COINTELLIPRO and ECHELON? Have you guys read further than snowden and prism? This is absolutely not new. It swear ive posted about this topic on TW in the past.
Not a really relevant now i suppose.
