Mars One. An organization led by a Dutch businessman (his name escapes me) and others from around the world. Their goal: Land humans on mars for a permanent settlement by 2023. This year they have started recruiting astronauts for the mission. Some 78,000 have applied. It is a non-profit organization, so they get all their money from other organizations and donations. So far they collected about half of what they need. Google mars one for more info.
Thoughts, opinions? I think it is extremely ambitious, but if they pull it off, this could be huge.

Suicide mission

I have intel that 20% of the 78k that applied are MWA spies, trying to conquer Mars. We must cap the rocket ship to save Mars from the wrath of MWA

No turning back, they would need a lot of fuel just to get there, to get back would be the suicide mission. Not counting in space madness or whatever it is. They would get tired of seeing each other. Not considering the fuel they would also need water and food lasting up to what, 1 year. The ship would be humongous because they would need to put parts to make a "base" their. They would need roughly about 500 million, probably more, us dollors! They would need to then send a drone carrying more stuff for the "base" or stuff for the crew. And that's how the return trip home would have to come, or they fly a small ship toward mars and leave the huge ship up in space with enough fuel to get home

we need not to find the buggers..... the buggers will find us..... Then I'll handle it

Plans for landing, supplies, etc. are here : http://mars-one.com/en/mission/summary-of-the-plan
-
Also, this is no round trip. The astronauts who go there stay there for the rest of their lives.
-
Supply missions would come every now and then. Also, a greenhouse would be part of the settlement, they would grow plants and such in a contained, air-tight facility.

It's called Pandorum. I think a mission like this is ambitious at best. If it were turf wars, it'd cost 250 energy and you'd get no XP.Not counting in space madness or whatever it is.

I also need to mention the trip itself will last about a year or so. Faster the most mission proposals due to a window of time when mars is closet to earth coming up around 2020💻ӈɑͭcͪĸͤєя💻 wrote:

So to get these 78k that signed up there we are going to use a good amount of our resources brining them to an uninhabitable planet then bringing them more supplies every now and then wasting more fuel and resources. Why not try to colonize the moon first. It's 100% a suicide mission and a waste of resources. Microsoft can't even make an Xbox that doesn't get the rrod and we expect to colonize mars by 2023.

Only 40-some people are going to mars, they are in the process of picking people now.
It's there resources, so they can do whatever the hell they want with them.

moon base first then mars. you test your new ships and tech before you go to mars just like nasa did mercury and gemini before apollo. heck how many apollo missions didnt even land on the moon? that being said i'd sign up. hell of a way to die.So to get these 78k that signed up there we are going to use a good amount of our resources brining them to an uninhabitable planet then bringing them more supplies every now and then wasting more fuel and resources. The 40 or however many astronauts will be sent in groups. So the first will land in 2023, then 2025, then 2027, etc.

Go play Starcraft

If you check the facts backing up the consiparcys, we never landed on the moon. It was faked to make the Russians scared and help us end the cold warℤȺℂℍ ꀨ😲🔫😏 wrote:

Has to be a hoax..... So many things make life on Mars so difficult that it is virtually impossible. Ok for a movie, but just not realistic.

So how are they suppose to stop with no fuel. Oh wait....they could just slam into mars, that would stop them. Of course they wouldn't be alive.💻ӈɑͭcͪĸͤєя💻 wrote:

I'd go. 👍

It wouldn't work, but then again a lot can change in 20 years so this will be interesting. I personally won't go, but I would support it.

It seems like we are projecting our technology to be there when in reality it won't. 10years ago we had video games and computers and cell phones were starting to get better but it hasn't been improved much. There hasn't been a huge breakthrough in new better technology yet. I think we need to fix the problems with our planet before trying to colonize a planet with no resources and is already a "dead planet" it's basically just a giant rock in space

Hmmm.. Tough call but the girls are probably ugly so ill stay here basking in the Cali sun and tripping over bikinis that litter the floor!

4 people make the trip every 2 years ..... that's going to take a long time to get a population going. What about specialists - shouldn't they be there first? Will a broken bone be a death sentence? Will a bad case of flu just wipe everyone out? Just looks like a unique way to generate t-shirt sales!!

It's not a hoax. This stuff has been all over the media, they have spoken at TED. And have contracted with companies such as space-x for rockets and fuel. The point of this is to expand our horizons. A ton of scientific data is just sitting there, waiting for us.
