🔫1911 Question🔫
Forums › General Discussion › 🔫1911 Question🔫-
I have been carrying a .380 Smith and Wesson Bodyguard for a few years now. I recently bought a 1911 compact. It is slightly smaller than the full size 1911.
My question is, is it more advisable to carry it with the hammer cocked and locked or should I be carrying it with the hammer down? The reason that I am asking is because I am seeing mixed reviews online as to what is the best way to carry it.
-
Since most 1911's have the hand safeties it should be ok to leave it cocked, but they are also known to go off if something hits it hard enough. Since it is a double action though I would sujest leaving it uncocked.
-
But I personally carry a USP 45 tactical I love the grip and the recoil surpressor makes it shoot like a .22.

Anyone who carries a gun must live in fear, fuck that, that ain't freedom

Well the only problem with having the hammer back is
1 it can be a pain sometimes when moving around(depending on whether you carry it on your waste or
shoulder)2 some people think that it would be safer just to have the hammer down(just incase it somehow puts enough pressure on the hand safty and some how malfunctions idk)
3 There really is no difference(in performance) in having it cocked back or not except that it is a lighter trigger pull.
Those can be a few reasons why not to but it really doesn't matter which way you carry it.

http://youtu.be/M1u0Byq5QisAnything, can happen anywhere, at any time. It's better to be prepared than sorry.

I would advise keeping it double action aka keeping the hammer down. Despite what 👆👆👆 say, negligent discharges happen and a heavier trigger press may* prevent some* of those. I'm thinking specifically about the trigger getting caught on the holster or clothing and being pushed down as you move around. Yeah it's rare but if it makes no difference to you I'd rather not have the hair pin trigger on my ankle, waist, or chest. Especially if you're cross drawing. My two cents.
-
Also, I can't really think of a single benefit of keeping it cocked.

This is my first 1911 (besides my grandfather's Colt that he carried on his person when flying B-17's in WW2). It functions quite a bit differently than my Beretta M9 or my Glocks.

Better safe than sorry. And it's not necessarily because people feel the NEED to carry, but we have the right to, so why not exercise that right? Again, it's better to be prepared than not. Ya never knowO U 8 1 2 wrote:

Trade it for a Glock. No hammers and no accidental firing

What a fucking pain in the arse that would be... I hate carrying a bulky wallet let alone a gun... Crazy world...

We carry guns because we are free.

If only more law abiding citizens exercised their right to bare arms. Maybe we'd outnumber the criminals and crazies out there who want to harm those we love and hold dear.
