Btw... People stipulating that they didn't personally know presidents is fucking hilarious.
PPS. Tweek attacking people's opinions is also hilarious. Semtex: I like the color blue. Tweek: Red is superior, blue is like fourth or fifth best color tops, back up your opinion or don't speak, ignoramus.

Dear people of turfwars,
Grow up, dears. (insert granny voice) -
Thanks. And I like your choice in Reagan. His tax cuts after Carter's presidency really helped the US out of a hole. People can say what they want about him, but he was a fantastic leader that rallied a crumbling nation behind him and restored faith in the fact that the future could be bright. I think we need another president like Reagan. One who will tell it like it is without worrying about whether he'll get his knob polished by the media later.
You are right on!!!! Totally agree
Um, y'all realize that over the course of his two terms he raised taxes far more than he cut them, right? I mean, the man had his problems, but he understood basic math, apparently unlike the current Republican leadership. -

I can see why he was one of your favorites. He established the EPA and OSHA, established wage and price controls, and tried to pass government-run health care. But he wasn't impeached for lying about missing audiotape, he was impeached for illegal warrantless surveillance and break-ins to subvert the democratic process and assure his reelection. Definitely not as serious a threat to the republic as whether the Bengazi killers were organized or not.❌❌🇪🇸℘ɑøℒø🇪🇸❌❌ wrote:
One of the best.. Can you believe that he resigned over lying about audio tapes while our current president lied about Benghazi where Americans died, and he is still in office. WAJ!!Nixon

From what I understand Reagan kicked off the economic downfall leading to the recession according to my 8th grade american history book. Reaganomics would've worked, however massive military spending started us down a path where we are today, although for a time saved by Clinton, of course.

FDR is my favorite :) he made America a better place for all Americans and made a middle class!

Jefferson is an interesting character. On the one hand he did write Kentucky and Virginia resolutions proposing a smaller federal government. Then as president he entered into an agreement with France, the Louisiana Purchase, that was considered a huge overreach of the federal government's authority at the time.My favorite president is Thomas Jefferson. First of all, of course I didn't know him. I really like his whole "revolutionary" mindset. He was an activist of strong states rights, a small central government, and a smaller military. I think his Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions were pure genius. 👌
I'm not say the purchase was wrong. I simply find it interesting that a man who espoused a weak federal government before he was President put those ideas aside and exercised strong powers not specifically grante to the federal govt under the Constitution.

Reagan reduced the top tax rate from 70% down to 28% over his terms. He did raise taxes but he did that because he was promised 2 dollars in budget reductions for every dollar of tax increase . The budget reductions never happened.
George Washington is my favorite. He could have taken this country as his own. He had the military and public support to do so. But instead he choose to be a true statesman and honorable man. He was the first and last true statesmen to lead this country. -
William Henry Harrison:)

Lol. Gotta love your back handed sarcasm. Lol. Was Nixon impeached or did he resign before. Eithor way he had a grey foreign policy. He's in my top ten but not #1
Really? I thought it was more of a forehand. 😉You are correct that he resigned before he could be impeached (although the vote was scheduled). I apologize for my misstatement.
His foreign policy overall was quite well done, especially the opening up to China. Vietnam was pretty much a disaster, but it was already in such bad shape by the time he got ahold of it that he probably couldn't have done a whole lot better.

True enough, but Reagan never submitted a budget that was anywhere close to being balanced either. Read David Stockman's memoirs about how he struggled to find any government programs Reagan was willing to eliminate.Reagan reduced the top tax rate from 70% down to 28% over his terms. Both essentially true. In both cases financial markets were allowed to be insufficiently regulated (S&Ls on the one hand and mortgage-backed securities on the other). In both instances the consequences of letting the financial institutions fail was deemed too disastrous to happen (probably correctly, although I hate to admit it), leaving the taxpayer on the hook.Dirty Balls wrote:

FDR, Teddy Roosevelt, JFK, Gerald Ford, Lincoln, and (please don't kill me) Obama.

The financial crises are an example of corporate socialism at its worst, where the financial benefits are privatized but the risks are socialized. There is no way for the bankers to lose in that scenario. Unfortunately, we don't seem to have learned a whole lot, as our financial system is still dominated by "too big to fail" companies and I haven't heard of any moves to split them down to a size where one could fail (as they should be allowed to do in a properly functioning capitalist society) without disastrous consequences.
