Life should mean life!!!

I've just seen that the mass murderer who SHOT DEAD 69 innocent people in Norway who also smiled all through the court hearing before apologising for NOT killing more has only received 21 years in jail with a minimum of just 10 years.
-
He further killed another 8 with a bomb. Most of the 77 victims was teenagers as young as 14 years of age
-
10$ says he's killed in jail. So I guess it's not just the US court system that's ridiculous? Everywhere is? That's horrible. He deserves life/death pentalty.
-
I do believe that there is something called preventive detention that will supposedly keep him from ever being released. But they should really make that more clear.
-
They really need to rewrite that law there! If he gets out of jail alive, I'd be disgusted if he made it out of the parking lot still breathing!

I like there justice system, gives people a chance to be rehabilitated, I think they have handled the whole affair with restraint and dignity, a good example to the rest of us. -
That works out at less than 6 months jail for each child's life and for each family's years of grief.

To an extent you have a point! Mass murderers aren't worth rehabilitating, opens the floodgates for copycats. Putting a max sentence on every crime is ridiculous!dc one wrote:

Yes, it is 21 years but with preventive detention, which means it is unlikely he will ever be released.

I agree, it's obvious he would do it again. I quote "I wish to apologize to all militant nationalists that I wasn't able to execute more" to me that near enough proves he would do it again.
He would be lucky to survive his time in jail.
But other reports say that due to "conflict of interest" he could be in a sectioned off area in jail.Me personally, I believe in "an eye for an eye", and he should not deserve to live another day for what he has done, and would do again.
The issue with someone like that, he has nothing left in life to gain, so he has nothing to lose.

I'm assuming that preventive detention is similar to washingtons civil commitment program in that after the sentence is served, they can be deemed unsafe to society and remain incarcerated indefinitely. If that's correct, I think it's a terrible system. It waisted huge amounts of tax dollars to keep these offenders separate from regular inmates and gives them access to certain rights. Here, it allows them to go through constant appeals all at tax payer expense. When someone commits a violent crime and shows no remorse, especially on a scale such as this, end it there. Death penalty, no appeals, no second chances.Yes, it is 21 years but with preventive detention, which means it is unlikely he will ever be released.

They shouldnt give him the right to be separated from the other prisoners to protect him,he should be put in the normal cell blocks and let loose with other prisoners who can show him wats wrong with his beliefs.EVERY DAY

I dont think he should be killed. He needs something harsher than death. Also, he needs checked for mental illnesses, because it's clear he's psycho.

Catch 22. Would a sane person do what he did.
Also I'm all for retribution. I say experiment on him for the greater good. Organ farm him. Something useful. Or just torture him daily. Maybe Chinese paper cuts etc. but make him live a long painful life. Execution is too good for him. -
I remember this. I only read about it in the following week after it happened so I don't know what happened after.
But here is what happnened, the event occurred around July 23rd, 2011. The man entered the island where the youth camp was located at and had many fifteen year old kids. Dressed as a police officer, he entered the island and started shooting the children. He would shoot them and then blast them with a shotgun in the head. Many that tried to escape by water were shot and killed or drowned after getting injured by the bullet. Survivors or unnoticed kids like a girl behind the rock he was shooting around remembers it or some kid that hid under a matress. The police didn't arrive since no helicopter or boat could reach the island that was several hundred meters off shore from mainland Norway. He also set off - bong and killed several people.
-
From something I wrote about the event, it lasted 1 hour and 30 minutes and SWAT didn't arrive until 40 minutes after they received a call about the massacre. The girl remembers being behind the rock he was standing on and could hear him breath.
Here are two articles that I used to learn about this when I heard about this.
http://news.yahoo.com/witnesses-describe-scene-terror-norway-camp-010853069.html
Also, there are some pictures of the event after it happened, like a few hours after it happened so some might not like it. Just warning you, but they are not graphic. Plus you can find more up-to-date articles, I just had these when I first heard of this in the first day after it happened. Articles on trials and the overall details of this with solid facts are probably around if you want to learn more about this event, the worst massacre in peace time Norway.

I agree with Certusd
death is an easy way out for some incarcerated.
Ian Huntley and Ian Brady are just a couple of examples of those who would prefer death than a wasted life behind bars, as they have shown via their suicide attempts.
Breivik would prefer execution,
if this was the case, then he would see himself as a martyr, as one oppressed by a government that he despises -
