How is he a pagan when he conquered Rome with the symbol of the cross on their shields? (That's how the whole crosses on shields thing started). The new testament is certainly not the word of god. The dirty little secret that they don't tell you in Sunday school is that it was commissioned (paid for) by the pagan roman emperor Constantine in 325 AD. His purpose for convening this council of Nicea was to create a belief system that he could use to consolidate power within the roman empire. The new testament was literally designed to be a tool of oppression and control. The great tragedy is that it's still being used for that purpose now almost 1700 years later.

Constantine is considered to be the first Christian emperor, but he came to power as a pagan just like every emperor that proceeded him. Most dogmatic elements that are now considered Christian were pagan first. The crucifix, the Eucharist, the symbolic animal sacrifices, the fasting, pretty much all of easter is lifted directly from pagan fertility rituals. Even the embellished tale of the life of Jesus has striking similarities to the mythology of both the Egyptian god Horus and the Greek god Zeus. The virgin birth, the 12 disciples, water to wine and walking on water, the crucifixion and resurrection. In almost every way Christianity was tailor made to appeal to pagans, it had to be or they would have rejected it. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that people come together and do good works and find comfort in this belief system, but calling it the word of god is frankly insulting to god.

A man much wiser than me once said, and I'm paraphrasing:
The word of god that can be spoken by man is not the true word of god, and the name of god that can be named by man is not god's true name. Anyone who claims to know god is trying to sell you something, simple as that. -
I misspoke above. The story of Jesus closely parallels the Greek mythology of Dionysus, son of Zeus, not that of Zeus himself.

Of course he can say what he wants. And I can he say he is a bigot if I want to. I'm not slandering him. Slander requires false accusations. Calling him a bigot isn't a false accusation. Yes, he probably is being demonized for being a fucking twatwaffle. Does he deserve it? Absolutely.I know there were some Christians there yesterday who thought they were somehow doing good work for the kingdom of God, but not everyone who went yesterday was a Christian. It was mostly about Americans standing up for an individual's right to say what he wants and run his business how he pleases without being slandered and demonized as a bigot.

I'm done here in this thread. I can't apologize for my beliefs, but I am prfoyndly sorry and humbly apologize if any statements I made in here brought pain to anyone. In debating homosexuality, I lost what should have been my focus. I think I began by responding to the initial question of the thread, and that devolved into an all-out battle over whether homosexuality is a sin. I am sorry for this. You all don't know me, and I essentially came in, uninvited, preaching my faith to you. I should have adhered to the saying that goes, "No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care." That's good advice for anyone, but I would especially like any fellow Christians here to think about that before saying anything else that might tear anyone down as a dignified human being. The Christian message is offensive. World peace cannot be achieved through it, but still, we can show love to people even if the idea of dying to one's self and submitting to Christ is wholly divisive and unappealing to most.

👍In fact, I will continue, I do not support gays. I am a Christian and follow the bible religiously (pun fully intended 😜). I believe being gay is a sin. But I will not discrimate them for sinning differently than I ("Let he who is blameless throw the first stone"). I actually have lots of respect for openly gay gays. They take lots of discrimination and hate daily and still stand up for what they believe.

If you do not supprt gays, then you are by definition, against them. You can say you respect them, but to prove it is another thing. I have a gay friend going into the marines, which means he's risking his life for YOUR freedom, and you choose not to support him is shameful. In fact, I will continue, I do not support gays. The way I see it, orientation does not matter, because if someone risks his freedom to live to defend yours, you absolutely cannot justify taking away any of his freedom. -

First off, you're misquoting things and speaking of things you don't understand. You guys are taking pieces of the old Jewish covenant and making them universal. They're not. I'd be more than happy to help you understand. PM me.@ Dino "I'm sorry you feel that way"

If you take the basic path of belief, that God spoke to those that wrote the Bible, then you also have to consider basic elements of human nature that God himself is so adamant about. The biggest being that we are flawed; therefore, everything we do is flawed.Let's test this out. It's said in the Bible to throw stones at your disobedient child. Do you do this? Or is it more likely that you've decided with your moral compass that this and many other things in the Bible are inconceivable? Where do you get off deciding what is and is not alright to base your values on in the Bible when it's supposedly 100% pure when its convenient for your argument?

Many non-Christians pick pieces from the bible that they do not understand and try to use them as weapons as to why Christianity is flawed. Sadly, it is your premise that is flawed. Christians hold a new covenant. You're trying to judge us with the old. However, some things (like abominations to God) ARE universal. PM me for an open discussion.Addi-well said my friend. Most Christians don't fully believe the bible and all it says, they tend to like the good things and leave out the bad. That's not how it works I'm afraid. You either follow your holy text fully and hionestly or you don't fully believe in that religion. Most people that say they are Christians are really more creationists. They just dont know the difference or take the time to learn or worse the just follow the masses.

I've never seen so many Christians line up to help homeless shelters or food kitchens, which is something Jesus would rather we do.

I don't understand? Wow. I'm afraid I do. I'm a Christian or Creationist if you will. I understand just fine. I've spent 30 years reading the Bible and going to Church so bite your tongue. I also understand that God made us intelligent beings for a reason and gave us the ability to deduce things with logic as well. And, again, either the Bible is whole and true or it is not. You don't get to blame part of it on the Jewish convenient and keep the parts you like without admitting its flawed.★Λddi★ wrote:

While you do that, I'll be following God.

Okay, then. Your covenant says nothing about homosexuals. That's good! The debate is over. Love them as you love yourself, and stop with the whole abomination, sin, against god, hang the gays, platform.Awesome. I feel much better! My first religious debate where everyone came to a pleasant agreement at the end!

Don't you think that it's for God to decide if I've done it wrong or wasted my time loving my neighbor rather than hating him and calling him an abomination? I'm pretty sure I'm good there slugger. I'm true to The type in red.
I'll get back to you on the stone throwing. I need my coffee first.
