You guys are killing me with your biblical misquotes and items pulled out of context. What does it matter if gay marriage is legal? It's not like homosexuality is being imposed on you. I personally don't see anything wrong with gay marriage. If your gay you're gay, you were born that way. All I'm saying is everyone deserves to be happy and we live in America after all. Land of the free. I don't see why gays shouldn't be allowed to marry. It doesn't affect me if they do nor my religious views.
As for religion, give me a break the bible says you can't wear polyester. But I'm sure most people do anyways. -

I agree.Brown note- wasnt incest how we all supposedly started from what religion tells us? If it was just Adam and eve, incest would have been the only way to promote the further existence of offspring. Of course I don't beleiving this, but some people do. And in the bible god commands cousins to marry, although I don't believe cousins, even first cousins to be incestuous. If it was accepted thn but isn't now don't you think the bible is culturally flawed, mtherefore nothing in it should with stand time if not everything in it does?
Wikipedia has an excellent article called "Incest in the Bible" that is very informative about the complex rules of incest in ancient times, which does not at all fit our current cultural norms in the US.
There are matrices indicating which acts were considered incest with which family members and by which genders in which cultures.

Kevster, I don't hate gays nor do I want anyone to burn in hell. If you didnt see my earlier post, I said Christians probably ought to focus less on changing laws. That doesn't make sin not sin, but our goal shouldn't be trying to turn any one country into God's kingdom. We should focus on teaching people about Jesus. The only reason I'm still discussing all this is because I am genuinely curious how open minded people are. You said incest is ok between two consenting adults. I appreciate your honesty. I may take that a step further at some point because I think most people will reach a point where they could be considered bigoted by others about something with which they don't approve.

Darn that 14th amendment. Ruins your day, don't it?Since the end of the civil war and up until a few years back with the 2nd amendment being the last, the entirety of the bill of rights apply to state and local governments according to the supreme court for the last 130 years.
Have you read the constitution since then?

I dont like this idea it all, teaching about Jesus? No one knows anything about this guy. He was lost for like 30 years and was a failed carpenter. Maybe he was looking for a way to make some income, if that's true he found it. Lol anyways there is no actual evidence of this person ever existing besides the bible which cannot be taken as literal proof of anything. I don't mean to offend but it cannot. I too say incest is ok between consenting adults who am I to say otherwise. I mean sexual acts between two people are no matter of mine. Although I hope they do understand there is a slight chance of abnormalities if they were to reproduce. We should focus on teaching people about Jesus. You said incest is ok between two consenting adults. I appreciate your honesty.

👆I want to ask a question in all seriousness to those who think the Bible should not dictate who we love or marry. This is not meant to be antagonistic in any way...I just want honest opinions. How do we decide, as a society, what is acceptable and what is not? Who gets to decide that? It is easy at this point to say we don't get to decide for other people, but if we really believe people don't "choose" to whom they are attracted, is that also true for adults attracted to children? Or let's say a man attracted to his adult son or daughter, since adding children into this might start too much of a firestorm. Should he be allowed to marry and have sex with his adult son or daughter if they are truly in love with one another, or would that be considered reprehensible? What about marrying multiple people? Again, be honest. If you do believe this, no judgment from me. I just want to know if most believe in absolute free love.

Gay marriage is legal in 6 states, while sex with a horse is legal in 23. Both are against the bible. 😒

Mr. Wretched- I do believe in all honesty that the US is greatly over exaggerated the pedophile. I mean not many other countries have this issue. Maybe it's because the legal sex age is 14. I mean at one point in our history it was acceptable to impregnate someone as soon as she matured(having periods). As for marrying multiple people would be just too damn difficult. I mean one wife or husband is hard enough work. Haha but polygamy can be seen as a good thing. Say I had a wife, and her sister's husband was killed. She has a great relationship with her sister and I. She doesn't want to start over but wants someone to be around and love her. Well if I already loved her why would it be so bad to take her as a second wife? Leaving the sex out of it because religion loves to harp on sex. :)

Is eating shellfish a sin? Yes, according to Chapter 11 in Leviticus (specifically 11:10) but it is best to read the entire chapter for fuller understanding of the laws concerning this.Gay marriage is legal in 6 states, while sex with a horse is legal in 23. Both are against the bible. 😒
Also, keep in mind that the first 5 books of the Bible are Jewish oral history, and many of these laws (including ones to condemn homosexuals, which was added in 1946). Regardless of the fact that Leviticus also states if all of these laws are not followed you will surely be put to death.

Yes there are more than the 10 sins everyone talks about. There are actually 623 of them. Not many Christians know that, those are the cultural believers which makes up a great number of this country. If they were born in say India they wouldn't hold their same beleifs here. It's a cultural thing really, not a lot of truth or understanding behind it.

As Carpenter said, most of those 623 laws were in place to distinguish the Jews from other nations. Those were the ceremonial laws. Prior to the law being given to the people, there was no condemnation for those who broke it. Though people who disobeyed God were still punished prior to the law, based on the moral law, which is based on God's character, (Adam,Eve,Cain,Lot's wife,Sodom & Gonorrah, etc.). Paul said those who live by the law (the 623) in order to gain salvation will be condemned by the law, but those who live by faith, through grace, will be set free (from having to obey the ceremonial laws in order to be saved). We are still required to follow the moral law given by God because His character is unchanging. Jesus said he did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it. When he came and died, there was no more distinguishing one group from another. His gift was available to all. The ceremonial laws for being saved no longer stood either because he replaced them with His sacrifice.

I have to say wtf are you talking about in you long post? Why would Jews need to distinguish themselves from other people. More segragation I'm guessing, that's the moral law of your god? Most parts of the world had stopped human sacrifice long before Jesus my friend. It was a learning process for people. The Vikings believed in a wolf god that ate the sun. Now we know it's an eclipse, and we know why and when it will happen every time. There is nothing left for god. We have worked out everything, we don't need him to explain anything in our universe any more :)

@ Dino "I'm sorry you feel that way"
It's not that I "feel" that way, it's fact. It certainly didn't fall from the Heavens out of God's hand.
If you take the basic path of belief, that God spoke to those that wrote the Bible, then you also have to consider basic elements of human nature that God himself is so adamant about. The biggest being that we are flawed; therefore, everything we do is flawed.Let's test this out. It's said in the Bible to throw stones at your disobedient child. Do you do this? Or is it more likely that you've decided with your moral compass that this and many other things in the Bible are inconceivable? Where do you get off deciding what is and is not alright to base your values on in the Bible when it's supposedly 100% pure when its convenient for your argument?

Addi-well said my friend. Most Christians don't fully believe the bible and all it says, they tend to like the good things and leave out the bad. That's not how it works I'm afraid. You either follow your holy text fully and hionestly or you don't fully believe in that religion. Most people that say they are Christians are really more creationists. They just dont know the difference or take the time to learn or worse the just follow the masses.

If you don't like the term "marriage" applyed equally to both Christians and gays you can change to a different wording for your church.I have no problem with gays getting equal rights whatsoever but why start a fight with religious groups that have been around forever over the right to marry? Why not take the lawfully equivalent of a civil union? IMO its some BS arrrogance of making a statement.... Again just my opinion.

The new testament is certainly not the word of god. The dirty little secret that they don't tell you in Sunday school is that it was commissioned (paid for) by the pagan roman emperor Constantine in 325 AD. His purpose for convening this council of Nicea was to create a belief system that he could use to consolidate power within the roman empire. The new testament was literally designed to be a tool of oppression and control. The great tragedy is that it's still being used for that purpose now almost 1700 years later.
