However, the oestre pagan celebration predates the xtian Easter that took its name.
Xtians aparantly moved the date of oestre too, which means the modern date may be removed slightly from its pagan roots. But doesn't mean it isn't pagan in origin. Which it is. -

Well I'm fudging 41, and I've been involved with several religions, studied religion in college, and I've been on all sides of the debate.
...And the more I look into it, the more bullshit I see.
I see how I was blinded each time. I see how many perspectives and beliefs we have as a single species, and how they have changed and evolved along with civilization.
I've been tortured, beaten, abused, broken, and robbed. What inhumanity I haven't experienced first hand, I've studied with fierce interest.
I'm as much a secular humanist as ever there was, "darker than a black steer's tookus on a moonless prairy night", and there's no child-like faith left in me.
I'm left to hang around here sparring with the saved and pagan alike.
I get a kick out of it.

This is where I will disagree with you tremendously. First: I believe people can make decisions objectively and not allow their personal subjective spiritual/religious beliefs give totalitarian influence over their politics. (freedom of religion wouldn't be here if those individuals were overtly influenced by their beliefs.) Second: Many who claim to be "Christian" do not actually fit into the Christian belief system, they are using it to attract demographics for acceptance/votes. Third: I would rather find individuals in politics that actually live by their faith, can you name one? Adultery, lies, false witness of others, etc etc. Christian by title for convenience not by literal spiritual belief system. Fourth: Pete Stark.
