I'd like to point out that you're trying to put down our opinion while hypocritically saying there's no way your opinion will change..?

I have a friend who judges a book by its movies preview. He is no longer my friend.

I just saw it. Haven't read the books, so I can't speak to its authenticity, but the movie was good. It's still a theft of Battle Royale, which I saw years ago, but it stands on its own as a quality movie (and book, too, according to my GF).

Untamed- you've never seen tropic thunder? :( how sad for you, I'm sorry to do this, but your movie opinion is here-by revoked until you go watch 80% of the following; top secret, airplane, monty python, caddyshack, the godfather parts I and II, fast times at ridgemont high, star wars parts IV, V and VI, red dawn, roadhouse, dumb & dumber, the naked gun, braveheart, top gun, seven, billy Madison, happy Gilmore, tommy boy, the cable guy, Napoleon dynamite, the matrix part 1, dejavu, team America, dirty work, made, 300, anchorman, step brothers, office space, black hawk down, fight club, gladiator, old school, the hangover part I (and ONLY part I), tropic thunder, super troopers, the big lebowski, borat, and Bruno. Especially Bruno, that should bring ya up to speed. Report back to us when your cinema credibility is restored. But before you go go...

Try to look at it from the perspective of what I am guessing is the vast majority of the movie going public, the non book readers... How could the mutts not be computer generated in the film version? It explicitly shows without any possibility of misunderstanding that they were computer generated. Just like the fireballs when katniss was nearing the boarder, they are computer simulations that are solely a function of the whim of the game officials. They want the game to be entertaining, so they create with their computers roadblocks to evasion, and mutant wolves.
-
It's really just that simple, and it satisfies reason that if the game ended, the simulation would cease immediately. We don't care what's in the book, they could have been robot/alien/ninja/pirate/zombie/vampires for all it mattered in the book. In the movie they were explained as computer generated simulations in an arena with a giant television screen for a sky. Most people see it without the preconceived assumptions the book imposes, so we can't share the cliché disappointment "the book was better" . It's like watching a sporting event on a DVR if you know the outcome, nothing can satiate your expectations.
-
Chiken- I'm putting your opinions down? I've itemized some possible culprit lines; I said your rebuttal stunk of incompetence, I refused to validate your suggestion of people reading two books to understand one movie when the more appropriate number is the Mayan favorite... 0. I said you can't let go of the Forrest for the trees, (a reference to your repeated opinion of books being movies, [than why are there two words delineating their implicit difference?] in contrast to mine saying books are books, and movies are movies). We disagree about the significance of her mock suicide attempt, we disagree about the fitness level of the two male combatants on the cornucopia.
-
Did I miss any? Forgive me, but my understanding of intellectual intercourse is that sharing an opinion is not belittling another persons. Perhaps you disagree, and have every right to. And as I read through our day virtually together, I fail to see where I said you could never change my opinion. In fact you did educate me on a few things, I.E. the origin of the gang sign she flashed, the purpose of the mutts, the proper spelling of their names (of however minute importance that makes in a MOVIE), her disorienting the mutts during the chase, your interpretation of the attempted suicide and the ramifications contained theirin, etc.
-
I did however say your opinion couldn't be changed, because I respect your convictions in SPITE of how vehemently and enthusiastically I disagree with them. Think about the things that are important in your life? Family, health, friends, finances, faith, culture... Is there any combination of words that anyone could muster to change your perspective on the stuff that's truly important to you? I'd wager not, because people are so fucking close-minded. Not an accusation, but an observation. I like discourse, it challenges me to fire my synapsis and I get to experience others doin the same. How pathetic would the world be if we all agreed on everything? (add Wall-E to my must see movie list) But the cerebral immobility works for them so who am I to attempt altering that? Nobody, that's who I am... And I like it that way. But I really do need that wiener shortening surgery :)

Wow 80% of that list sucked ass. How about some real movies like Eraserhead, Enter The Void, 2001: A Space Odysee, Memento, Following, Irréversible, Jacobs Ladder, Brick, The High Price Of Living, and much more. Your movie credibility is about a 6 out of 10. and Hunger Games sucked.Untamed- you've never seen tropic thunder? :( how sad for you, I'm sorry to do this, but your movie opinion is here-by revoked until you go watch 80% of the following; top secret, troopers, the big lebowski, borat, and Bruno. Ouch, that just cost you a liquor license and a distribution center. YOUR list is only suitable for people who are proud of thier 47th chromosome. Add zoolander, dodgeball and swingers to MY coherent list. And hunger games did suck.

The "Muttations" didn't resemble the dead tributes!!! Why??? 😨
That would have made it more exciting! Just like in the book

Haze, you seriously think Wall-E should be on a movie to see list? It should be on a "Hey, if you see this DVD burn it" List. I saw it. One of the worst movies i've ever seen. Barely a story at all, and all it does it show extremely obese people in space. As if that had any effect on america.

I agree very annoying.A lot of things didn't quiet match up. The played down the books to this pg13 version. Disappointing really. And the perspective really screwed with my eyes. Weird first person perspective almost. Dizzying!

Oh man, I couldn't disagree more. I'll certainly admit that wall-e is not transcendent or worth Oscar praise, the story was juvenile, the dialog was without question an acquired taste and its slightly preachy from a clear left political bias (which I find intriguing cause Walt Disney was a notorious nazi sympathizer, oops I digress). But the subtle social commentary was so poignant and reflective of our contemporary trends. It's clear you live in suburban Cincinnati, and rightfully may not be aware of the harm giant-multinational-soulless-unioncrushing-collectivebargainopposing-corporateconglomerates can have on small towns and their inhabitants. But the question of sloth induced obesity as a primary worldwide health epidemic is paramount.

I only mention the movie via post to colorize my opinion of cookie-cutter ideas and thoughts make our fellow citizens of humanity woefully blasé and apathetically laissez faire. Life is nothing without challenge and conflict, I'm sure you agree because you also are pationate about stories (albeit with unique taste, and a penchant for paper portrayed on screen, which I appreciate you for and would now make you my second wish [just so I had a back-up wish to double ensure your arrival]). Maybe wall-e doesn't belong on a list of movies that one's street cred should be measured against, but I thought it was cute, and onea my good friends has a tattoo of wall-e on his shoulder and his GF has one of Eve. In case you're wondering what my first wish would be... Further wiener shortening, my surgery was a success, but even afterwards I still gotta wrap this cumbersome thing around my ankle. Girth is my curse.

OMFG my friend and I love the hunger games, she saw it like twice in one day
