What are you opinions on this fair trade? I won't say anything I know about it until I see what you guys think.

Clubbing?
-
Oh and by the way, I expect at least one bad cheesy seal clubbing joke.

No, in the modern day trade, clubs are no longer used, guns are. However, clubs are the fastest and most painless way to kill them, when used with proper technique. Albeit this logic, they are no longer used because people thought that they were cruel.Clubbing?

Stop clubbing, baby seals
Once again, punctuation saves the day

Well...I think the issue involves that they're wild animals. But to make a point, We do slaughter young pigs, calves, young chickens and such without much complaint. I would like to state that I'm against the cub seal hunts for the fact they're wild animals !!

We were looking to open a night club called Club Baby Seals but couldn't get a reasonably priced liquor license.

Humans are carnivores. It's the cycle of life. You don't stop a wolf from killing an elk.
Besides the fact, not much food is in the arctic. If an Inuit must kill a baby seal to eat, then by any means necessary, kill the baby seal. -
K, as a fair trade it should be left to the indigenous people of the area. As they have been doing it for thousands of years and is part of thier heritage.
But the killing of a youngling of any species is not good for the stability of them, as it halts reproduction. So by killing a baby seal, you do not allow it to reach an age of sexual maturity, in effect not allowing it to maintain the numbers needed for the species to continue to exist.
But then again indigenous people usually know when to stop and how much to take.Hope this is what you were looking for.

Not only is the seal just another animal, they are pretty ugly (not actually a valid point). They are also killing the cod, a species that has very low numbers in and around Newfoundland shores.

@grt26
Seals are reproducting at rapid rates and are becoming over populated, and are destroying several species of fish, including the cod. -

you have a valid point. I'm don't against hunting at all. Hunters do of course hunt animals of a certain maturity level. Allowing the young to grow and replenish the ranks of the species.Graveyard wrote:

The species is immensely overpopulated at the moment around NL, same as the moose. In fact, they now allow the hunting of moose in 1 of 2 national parks!TheNewfieBullet wrote:

Newfie...I'm unfamiliar with the issue at the local level in you neck of the woods. So I would say it's best resolved by those it impacts most.

If you kill the seal, use all of it. Don't just kill it for its fur. That's just wrong IMO.

I saw that DVD faces of death and there skinning those seals alive and there wriggling around with no skin on due to inefficient clubbing!! Wtf that shit is horrible but a mans gotta eat !
-
PS: And do it humanely

That shit is fucked up bullshit propaganda. Seals are shot dead before they are skinned. They used to be clubbed in an efficient and relatively painless manner involving a club with a nail. As an example of the propaganda, when a girl was named Miss NL, activists photoshopped a picture of her clubbing a seal completely covered in blood. It pissed me off.I saw that DVD faces of death and there skinning those seals alive and there wriggling around with no skin on due to inefficient clubbing!! Is it ok to bludgeon puppies and kittens to death with a baseball bat, if your gonna eat em?

I'm being serious. It's not a case of wether or not shooting is more humane than clubbing, people find it distasteful that it's a young animal being killed. People who eat eggs might not want to eat gassed fluffy yellow chicks. Or electrocuted cute piglet ham.Malthus wrote:

I personally don't really. There are all kinds of fairly well accepted young meat, for example, veal and venison(I think?)Graveyard wrote:

I thought this was an invitation to hunting seals.
And clubbing is for pussies, real men use their bare fists and raw anger.

Seal pups per year rose from about 500k in 1980 to over a 1M in 2005 in NW Atlantic, all these seals eat and shit, causing alot of damage to the ecosystem.
I would tactical nuke there ass.👊Kill the seals👊
