Question for Nick, Thuglife, or anyone else who is getting the codes from Nick...
In using Thuglife's site, I copied the list from yesterday afternoon and pasted the list in a spreadsheet (after Thug had ordered the list by date/time). Just about an hour ago, I copied the list over again and compared it to my previous list. I would have thought that the only new codes would be those that were from June 25th or later...but there were approximately 10 codes from each day (19th, 20th, 21st etc.) that weren't in the original list I copied. Can someone explain why this is happening? How are we supposed to keep up with the list if new codes are being added that are almost a week old and about to expire as opposed to only new codes being added that have a week before expiring?
-
I'm not sure the way that thuglife's site is processing and updating the codes, but I'm using the API as a straight feed (I think) that updates every 6 hours with ~100 new codes. I don't have a database setup so once it updates the old codes are lost. But they appear to pull up in batches that are similar codes (e.g. they all start -Fxxxxxx or -Bxxxxx). The expiration date (which I've removed from showing) is all over the place in that grouping. So maybe as thug grabs new codes and adds them in, he's organizing by expiration date so he has to add in new codes in that order, which means there will be new codes popping up all over the list. That's just theory, I don't know how his list works or if I'm misreading my info.

Wait...they're random codes? Meaning we're not getting ALL of the new players out there? That was not how I understood it from the beginning, although looking back, he didn't say he would list them all either.
What's the intent here Nick? It would seem to me that it would be best to provide all the new players Temp codes, and release them in order. Is there a reason you're not doing so?
If you're not doing so, then it only further complicated those who are trying to keep up with the code punching I would think that most players would prefer to either stick with one method or the other...not having to track both the old method of finding/punching codes...and the new method of punching the random temp codes that you release. Doing both would be extremely time consuming. -

If it is your intent to not release all the Temporary codes, then I would at least request that they only be released in order of date. It's somewhat frustrating to me to be released a code that expires in less than 24 hours...otherwise what's the point of them having a 7-day expiration date, if no one sees them for 6 days of those 7 days.
-
I don't know if the codes are random per say. I believe the codes are generated for every new player. The way the API feeds for me it seems that the order in which the codes are pulled from the server is a little random, but it seems to be pulling it in consistantly bunches. I've entered every code so far I've pulled and I've not had any noticeable repeats (98% are successful invites, the other 2% are already in mob or already invited, but this could be do to other methods I've been using to add mobs so unlikely repaat codes from the server). So I believe that all codes from all the new players will be generated and listed, just depends on the sorting and adding every code from each time the server updates and spits out the next batch.

I don't get it.. You say you can't compete but you forget there is Not an infinite supply of users/codes. There's a point where things slow down.
-
But what's the purpose of them being random? Why would the API feed a "new" random code that expires in less than 24 hours...that means that player has been around for almost a full week. That also means that if that's the way the system is going to be from here out, that there some new players who's temp codes will be listed for almost a whole week, and other new players who will only be listed for about a day. That doesn't seem very fair to the new player who was only listed for a day...he's going to get a whole lot less invites. It seems to me, the only way to be fair about it would be to automatically list every players code for the same amount of time...ideally for the full week.

Even though I would probably enjoy catching Thug doing something like this, I'm fairly certain he's smart enough to NOT do something like this. As soon as Nick found out, he would pull his "sponsorship" of his site and not send him the list any more...which would somewhat screw Thug's site...and I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to risk that.
So the assumption is, Nick is indeed spitting out random codes as previously stated...which currently is another part of the system that needs improvement (along with the code format itself)...and until he explains himself, I don't see how this method fits his vision of helping out all the noobs. Because currently, all noobs are not being helped out equally.

What a complete and utter waste of time. I had to be available for a project at work but was Able to punch codes the whole time. I got 600 done about 12 hours ago. I have added a whole 57. I know that count might go up throughout the day but this is beyond ridiculous. Even if you only get 100 a day on average you might get 10 and it takes about an hour per hundred. Again totally worthless. Losing interest real quick!!!

Most of your comments have already been addressed above, but I'll try and respond again here...
1) The point of the temp codes is as Nick said...to allow players to enter the noob codes before the noobs figure out how to posts their codes in the forums or code websites. If you're entering all the temp codes, you don't need to use or enter their normal codes...pretty simple.
2) Nick has already stated he's going to change the code format so that it's not so difficult to read.
3) It's not Thug's fault that he's the first one who implemented the new temp codes on his site. All the other code sites have been given access to the temp codes, just as Thug did...it's their choice on how soon they get them up and running...not Thug's or Nick's.
4) If you don't like Thug's site or the way he has it displayed, complain to him, don't complain on here...or create a site of your own and post this list the way you want it. Or do what I did and copy the list into your own spreadsheet and format it how you want. -

Let me say this yet again...obviously there's going to be a big difference in getting up-to-date with the current codes and ultimately having to keep up with the list on a day-to-day basis. If you were keeping up with all of the codes on all of the forums/websites, you would have been punching about 50-70 codes per day already...not to mention the time to actually find those codes and post on comment boards. What a complete and utter waste of time. I had to be available for a project at work but was Able to punch codes the whole time. I got 600 done about 12 hours ago. I have added a whole 57. Now you'll be doing about 100 codes per day...but that's all. In other words...one-stop shopping. You go to the updated code list...you grab the latest codes for the day, you punch them in and you're done for the day.
-
And if you miss a couple of days the codes expire and now there might not be the incentive to maintain the other way so you lose the chance of cathcing up. So unless you are tied this game day in and day out you will fall behind
-
K I punched all of em in less than 3 hrs.
This will be a fine way of adding codes so long as the format is addressed as nick said it would be and as long as the codes come out in The proper order as Night was pointing out I'm game for this method.
Please address the kinks as soon as you can nick. And thankyou for listening.

the player doesn't disappear, though. Just the temporary code. I agree with night. I'm almost done. You should never expect high returns for new players but you will get returns. Ive done over 600 myself and only gone up 20 but that's ok. Most of the codes are a little old so my expectations are low. However it will get better over time. Also you would have to miss a whole week for codes to expire. You should he at least puncing more than that. I think it'll work out in the end despite all my bitching lol
-
Btw, the order the codes are spit out may be different depending on how they're called via the API. I've been playing around with it but haven't figured it out. But observing the way it's working suggests that it just requires the proper coding on our end (the fan/code site trying to call the codes). Unfortunantly I'm a noob with this type of coding so it'll take me a bit to figure it out, but I'm working on it.

When the api make the request to the site it get a bunch of codes that is chosen randomly...
My site add the codes to a database and delete those that are expired...
So if I get a new code expiring in 1 hour it will be up on the site. Thats why night saw new codes...

A lot of change will be made on Turfwars.info soon. If you have any suggestions or questions let me know.

That's part of the problem right now though is that if you go through and add a big group of codes you really have to keep track of them yourself because the next update might add a few in the same time frame group as the ones you previously added. You need a way to mark which ones you've added that way once the next update hits you can see which ones are new that you haven't added yet. If it didn't randomly spit out codes with varying expiration times it wouldn't be an issue. When the api make the request to the site it get a bunch of codes that is chosen randomly...

Glad i have my iPad for these codes. Makes typing them in so much easier. :)
-
The new codes are a pain in the ass to type going from symbol to numbers to letters. I think I'll stick with the regular codes.

Thanks thug. Also thanks for the change in color much better on my eyes but the table needs to be wider for the date column.
