@mischief
So you are just cut off from the outside world, not socialising with people your age?The point of school is to learn life skills. Most of the tasks are teamwork tasks. How are you going to work as a team at home? Your meant to develop you communication skills too. You can't really do that at home.
Why not just go to school?!

I know a few homeschooled people. A few of them are socially outgoing and have no problem in a social setting but on the other hand, I know some awkward people. Also I know some that are 'homeschooled' but always are telling me that they haven't done schoolwork in a long time. I also know people who do homeschooling online and I will admit they are pretty intelligent. I personally would not recommend or think about homeschooling because I would not be able to stay home all the time and not see anyone when there are thousands of students at my HS.

There are many of you who have valid points against both home-schooling and public-schooling. There are good educators doing both and poor educators doing both. There are geniuses being taught both ways and ignoramuses being taught both ways.
I suggest that if you hate the home-schooling approach that you send your kids to public or private schools. The freedom of choice belongs to the parent not the state. The idea that you can infringe on people's liberty as long as it doesn't affect me only works until they outlaw something that you do. Th only way to protect our freedoms is to protect everyone's.

I'm just saying all the people who I have met that have been homeschooled are close minded. I was basing on personal experience. That's all I can do! -
I believe in France they must notify the government and their children have to take tests to show progress. If they fail to show progress then the parent's right to teach their children is removed.

Actually, a diploma from homeschooling has absolutely no meaning. After getting that diploma someone would have to get a GED(general education diploma) which is the kind of diplomas that dropouts getI think parents should have the choice where to educate their kid. Although I would not home school my kid because it probably doesn't look great on a college app.

That's true. Although the text books and lessons of public education can vary nation wide and be very biased. It's always up to the individual to seek answers and different views to build what they learn. Home schooling may not offer this depending on the parents. Kids need to be fed more than one view in school. It seems their always fed one view. This is close mindedness.shin-soo choo wrote:

I go to a homeschool co-op where they make up for the social skills we are missing.
Also, a place I learned most of my current social skills was in my church from the other homeschoolers and public schoolers.
You're probably thinking that church is not a place to learn social skills. You have not been to my church. -
@shin
The diversity of public schools helps to negate the hatred learned from parents. This way the people as a whole can make sure the child isn't only
Being taught hatred -

I think homeschooling should be a last resort option. Most parents do not have a teaching degree and are not qualified to be the only source of knowledge for their child. Also, the child misses out on a lot of necessary social interactions. Not everything can be taught, you have to learn some things by going through them. As a future educator I am against homeschooling but I understand there are situations where it is necessary.

I have been private-schooled until recently, the biggest problem is many people from homeschools or public schools who couldn't pass their grade went there and essentially did no work, the school diddn't care since they were getting payed $450 a month per student while none of the teachers had actual teaching degrees.

At shin. Usually I go with the choice that gives the most freedom. But we are talking about something that affects the condition o the next generation. We as a whole should have more control over how it turns out

She is more advanced than a ps child , and is free of the political indoctrination rampant on public school -
On the racism and homophobia statements. Both of my parents hate racism and bigotry of any kind. They raised me to be like them. I was public schooled. I grew up in a town surrounded by reserves. The amount of racism and hate towards first nations people was incredible. It doesn't matter where you go. It is everywhere.
