tupac was an average writer who recycled rhymes all the time. His flow was nothing innovative at all. He was a performance artist ballet type dancer in Maryland and when he decided he wanted to make some dough he decided he was a gangster from Cali. His persona sold records not his artistic merit. Me against the world is easily his best album but all you cats who say he's amazing base that largely on his premeditated gangsta on death row

How could I forget blastmaster krs and g rap. They're forever two of the best ever.
True story: I ate at a restaurant in palisades mall in new York and sat across from krs-one who was with his wife and two kids. I couldn't help myself and went up to him and said "return of the boom bap is a classic album...you're a top ten rapper of all time..." and not only was he really nice to me and not annoyed but also GAVE ME A FREE BOOK AUTOGRAPHED BY HIM. I was like WHAaaaaaaaaaat?!?!? That was an awesome moment

I agree with u that Me Against the World is his best album but to say his writing was average or he had little artistic merit is a bit of a stretch there. Yes, he did gain a lot of his fanbase from the gangsta rap of the Deathrow mid 90's era but his entire body of work is pretty diverse & impressive. With the amount of rhymes he wrote there'd bound to be repeated rhymes.

Meh. Nas has written far more verses and doesn't recycle.
-
Ohh big man bashing Pac about the ballet. He did that because of boxing moron. A lot of professional boxers do that. And he had reasons behind getting thuglife across his stomach.
He and his father (a UC prof. I might add) discust the meaning of being a thug. He didn't look at his life style as a get rich quick way. He brought originallity to the table with his lyrics an beats. I don't care what the fuck anyone says, Tupac is deffinitally one of the top 10 rappers of all time. His lyrics had meaning.
-
Lupe Fiasco, Jay-Z, 2Pac, Andre 3000, Joe Budden, Jay Electronica, Phonte, Kanye West, Big Daddy Kane, Bug Pun, Big L... That's not in any order. And I can add on to that.
But if I had to give 'the best rapper' title to someone it would def be Young Hova!

I don't belive he recycled rhymes anymore than any other rappers who use certain phrases in a song or two of theirs. Even so, I'll just agree to disagree cuz u obviously have your mind made up. As have I.

To each his own. Dear mama, keep ya head up, me and my girlfriend, and a few others are classics but he didn't make ONE classic album...me against the world and makaveli were both good
but not classic. I can't call a rapper a top ten great without a classic. But that's just me. He definitely impacts people just not me as much. Lol he was no boxer though come on man. Also forgot to mention: cormega, posdnous, Lupe fiasco, and Saigon
-
Prez, I agree about 93-94 being the best years, but why has nobody mentioned big L?
-
Oops my bad ramzy did. Didn't see it.
