You speaking of Gates investments and agenda in eugenics? If I happen to make it really big, I want to use my money to produce, to inspire, and to enjoy. Look at Bill Gates. What does he need his foundation for? Just give it all to the treasury and let the politicians write checks for what they want. Yeah. Smart.

I'll go back much further. Why don't we get down to brass tacks. What specific progressive policies from the last 30 years do you see as taking us down "the road to socialism", defined as total state control of the means of production? I'll do the same, but instead focus on specific policies regarding our move toward fascism, defined as total corporate control of the state.
Point 1. The Civil War
The civil war unfortunately demonstrated why we can't have nice things. The opposite reaction to the succession of several states and the resulting war was plainly overkill and damaged our federation and moved us markedly towards a powerful centralized government, contrary to what the founders had in mind. Point 2 of my march toward socialism: The roaring 20s.
Again, why we can't have nice things. Industrialist plutocrats play with fire ala 2006.
The resulting collapse created 25% unemployment and did irreprerable damage to the free market system.
The next decade brought Fascism to our nation through massive federal works programs giving a great deal of infrastructure responsibility to the federal government. Banks were bolted down at the federal level. Safety nets began to spring up, the nation sank deeper into the depression. The supreme court was plainly manipulated with ringers to overturn then current constitutional standing which plagues us to this day.
The overreaction caused a much longer depression, and again gave more power to the central government.

Item 3: Fiat currency and the Federal Reserve.
I mean, COME ON!
Not really. It's not so bad, but the quasi-federal agency has its mitts in the controls of our currency. They enable excessive over-printing, artificially low inflation, and hide the true value of our production and credit. Damn you Nixon!
-
Item 4: Social Security "Lie", (sold as insurance, implemented as tax, no funds exist) September 11, DHS, TARP, "Stimulus", Bailouts, Mae/Mac..
Over reaction, growing government, sinking deeper in our own muck.
Meanwhile: HURRAY! Finally the last of the first 10 amendments gets standing from the 14th! Gee. What took them so long?
What are we left with? A nation of kids that don't understand that the federal government was originally a part time annual series of meetings that pushed a few pages a year and only spent too much on war.
Now it's the largest employer in the country. The largest land owner. The biggest renter. The biggest lender. The biggest spender. And it maintains ever more power over us year after year.
States are reduced to reporting agencies of the federal government.

He was just doing his job. You think "we the people" elect these puppets? They work for huge mega banks that "spread the wealth around" to bailout banks and in return charge extremes amounts of interests where it's impossible to pay back. We either go to another war or we strip everything we have and slowly build our economy back by cutting unemployment/spending/federal reserve and most assuredly cutting Burnake's Job and send Him to jAil 💢🔥🔥💢👍🏥Item 3: Fiat currency and the Federal Reserve.

Half of us are all "Yay! Save us big government! I want free everything, and a safety net at the expense of controlling my own earnings!"
I blame education. I really really do. (a local and state function, I realize). The first federal agency I would delete is the department of re-education camps.
DHS, gone. Merge CIA and NSA. FBI, gone. (WTF are federal marshals for?). Dept of Energy merged into Department of defense. (that's what it does, you know)
Oh, what the heck... Cut defense back to sub-1 million employees.
Growing government is a march toward control. Hapless, innocent, skipping toward utopia, leaving us with Big Brother, our totalitarian buddy.
-
By now you must realize that I'm not a Fascist, which you implied when you expected me to go off on Socialism.
I see Socialsm and Fascism as two forms of the same thing. Loss of individual liberty.

The trilateral COMMISION wants to build a union utopia and issue in a global currency. How are they to do that if our dollar still has any worth?

Totally agree on the federal reserve. It either needs to be bought back by the US for $450 million per it's charter or the currency game needs to be opened up to the free market. As far as the civil war goes, I'll take a stronger fed over a permanently fractured country, one of which is a slave state, if those are my two options. Similarly, the social safety nets of the 30s were borne out of necessity. There were no bootstraps left for people to pull themselves up by and private charities had all but collapsed. To say with certainty that government spending prolonged the depression is pure conjecture. We're having the same conversations today. But when free market gods like Greenspan are running around with their hair on fire, saying that the end is near if we do nothing, what do you do? Sounds like monday morning quarterbacking to me.

I asked about the recent road towards socialism because I got the impression that you've developed a newfound sense of impending doom due to Obama's policies. Apparently I was mistaken. (Due your back and forth, Devil's Advocate argument style?) According to you we have been doomed from birth. Besides, we're broke and we've never been broke before. This whole civilization thing has become way too complicated to go on. Time to tear it all down and start over. ;)

I have no hope of a return to the dream of our founders.
I just like pointing and going "WTF?!?"
I work in the department of commerce, and I see a lot of good things comming out of the agency. I do see extreme waste, inefficiency, insecurity, beurocracy, and the usual federal crap....
But the census is required by the constitution.
Without NOAA, there's no fish left to catch.
Without the FTA, Russian scammers get all our bank information, and people sell skin cancer cures for 5 bucks...
Some good. Lots of bad.

The cost of the wave pool in front of our building cancels out my and your lifetime federal tax contributions.
Multiply that by tens of thousands just within DC, and you start to think we are over taxed for our services, and the debt is largely waste.
Just think... EVERY YEAR, I spend the equivalent of a new car in federal taxes, while I drive a 2003 civic.
I say, stop hiding taxes. No more paycheck deductions. Just send a bill at the end of the year. Watch people freak out.
Realize that the first 3 months of every year are work-for-free months.
Gasoline is $1.98 a gallon plus tax and regulation fees.
Box of Marlboros: $0.75 plus "you're stupid and they're evil" tax.
Hey old rich people: Free money!!!!
Hey rich unemployed people: Free money!!!!
Good Dog.
