I need something to read. To give a background of what I like. Fantasy is always good. I enjoyed the first few books in the xanth series. I like sci-fi. Enders game is a favorite. But I'm open to about anything. If you guys know of anything good. Please feel free to share.

Harry potter?

Read em all. Looking for something a lil more advanced if that makes sense. They were good books, just too childish now. I also enjoyed brave new world. That was an entertaining read.

IceBerg Slim's "PIMP" or anything by Donald Goines...definitely entertaining & theirs nothing childish about 'em!!

Anything by Stephen Baxter. Arthur C Clarke. Are good scifi writers.

Check out the entire Enderverse, there are 6 or so more besides just Enders Game. ✊

Ohhhhh man this is my kind of thread.
I highly recommend Neil Gaimen. Start with "American Gods" then move to "anansi boys" then "neverwhere" by then you'll be hooked like me and want to read everything he's written. Or you wont like it and you won't. But READ AMERICAN GODS. So good. Failing that you could always dive into the Dark Tower series by Steven King. I'm not a huge king fan but the Dark Tower isn't like the rest of his stuff...more fantasy then horror. The first 4 books in the series are awesome. Then he took almost a 2 decade break before writing the fifth (It may be the first 3 books before the fourth can't remember) so it's kind of...different towards the last 3 books. But he has announced he's writing an 8th installment. Failing those two check out Timothy Findlys "not wanted on the voyage". Wow. Awesome read. Let me know if you checked any of these out I'd love a good book nerd talk.

IMO Neil Gaimen is the greatest "working author". Not gonna debate classics but for a dude still writing today he's tops. And he's dating Amanda Palmer of the Dreseden Dolls and she's awesome too.

Well Gaimen's arn't a series exactly. But several of his books exist in the same "universe" and there are character crossovers. That's why it's important to read American gods before Anansi Boys. But the DT series by king are worth getting into. But you like everyone else I know that's read them will want a break after the first 3 or so. If you're a nerd like me you'll love Roland the gunslinger in the DT series. There's also a line of really well done graphic novels that supplement the story line. A franchise I have a lot of money in over the years!

I read part of a quick summary on American gods and it seems unique. From the summary, it seemed like a good dark fantasy.

The Crucifix Killer by Chris Carter, and The Excecutioner by the same author, both great reads! But very gory and rude, and will probably give you nightmares!
-
Books by RA Salvatore, start with Icewind Dale Trilogy. There are about 13 books in the series.

2 Fantasy authors that might be worth a look:
Tad Williams - particularly the "Otherland" series (it's about what might happen if the Internet became "reality")
China Mieville - particularly "Perdido Street Station" and "The Scar" ... his stuff is "weird" (like steampunkish) and a little dense to get into initially, but well worth it.A classic series is the Thomas Covenant books of Steven R Donaldson. The first 6 books are great. He took like 20 years off before returning to the series recently. Book 7 was OK & then it all tanked. :(

If you like fantasy the shanara series is considered one of the best if you've never given it a try

1984 is my favorite book. But I'm surprised no one else has mentioned the C.S. Lewis space trilogy. Classic scifi. Read "out of the silent planet" to see if you like the story. It's short, but the other two books are a bit longer.

I love 1984. Big brother is watching you. That front facing camera on the iPhone 4 is just so the govt can spy on us.. 😝
